The way people like Nick talk is like somebody selling a wonderful cruise. You go aboard their ship and it is very nice, it all looks wonderful and you all go sailing together around beautiful beaches or whatever when, suddenly, they stop the ship in the middle of the ocean and announce "OK, we have arrived at our destination, follow me everyone!" and jump overboard. All the passengers then seem to say "well, he wasn't lying about the cruise, it has been amazing! let's go!" and they all jump overboard also. People need to draw a line between the points that someone like Nick might make which, at least on the surface level, have some strength or validity and the bit where he says "OK everyone, let's jump overboard". For example, it is hard to disagree that a good family structure is important and if the parents are too busy to ever focus on the child, effectively neglect them, the child can 'suffer', but to then say the solution is that women should therefore not be fully educated, should not work and should stay at home and only be mothers is proper mental. He takes a running leap off the gangplank with that one.

If you take 50% of the population (woman) and encourage and often times force them into the work force, it creates a huge surplus in workers and if someone wants a raise, they can simply say ,”No, I’ll hire someone else”. With all of that being said, woman aren’t the only reason for lower wages. Minimum wage effects this as well. It creates scenarios where you have garbage workers being paid a wage they probably already don’t deserve. And because they have to pay a minimum despite worker performance, it means less money can be spread around to people who are good workers. And there are many other reasons but growing your work force by 50% will for sure lower wages across the board, especially since we don’t manufacture much anymore and everything is service economy.

Ive worked in manufacturing since 2013, plastic injection molding, aerospace and now semi conductors. Towards the end about Russia. They are buying ammo from North Korea, their surplus ammo is going bad and running out, and they are pulling T-55s from museums and said they can get maybe 100 ready for combat in 2030. Also hypersonic missiles are weird because any missile can be hypersonic it’s just a measure of how fast at what altitude the missile is.
There’s also the fact that a lot of hypersonic vehicles slow down in their terminal phase to be able to get their targeting data, and ensure they hit the right target. Just cause it’s that fast at a certain stage doesn’t mean it’s that fast the whole time.

People quibble about if a hypersonic missile is one that travels hypersonic or one that can maneuver while still staying hypersonic. The Kinzhal is definitely the former, but it doesn't seem to be able to maneuver much(if any) without dropping a lot of its speed. If you go by the former, then we've had hypersonic missiles for several decades now in the form of ICBMs. The Patriot system can down missiles that follow a parabolic trajectory pretty well, and it's downed Kinzhals pretty well so far. The system isn't good at taking down hypersonics that follow the latter's definition. It was designed a long time ago back when such missiles weren't expected for it to go up against. Those types maneuver too much while staying too fast to reliably intercept with the Patriot. The West usually uses the latter definition, which is why you see a lot of them say the Kinzhal isn't hypersonic despite it technically being faster than sound because if it were, then the Patriot would be basically useless against them. It's really just a semantics thing. They're both using the same word, but they mean different things.

40:50 Destiny is wrong here. Intercepting a missile going that fast is possible with the right launch platforms. You can shoot down anything if your computer can calculate where the missile is going, if your missile is maneuverable enough, and your radar can track the target and feed it to the computer. Anti air defense systems work best when a target is coming towards them or they are being shot at. Its alot like catching a ball. If somebody throws one right at you, then you dont have to do alot of moving to catch it. Though if they throw it overtop and past you, or to the side of you, then you'll have to do alot more work to catch it. Making the target faster will increase the difficulty of intercept (hence why hypersonics are a thing), but not impossible, especially if its coming right towards you. Habitual Linecrosser has good videos on air defense. He is a very highly credentialed air defense operator.

It's the hypersonic glide systems that have everyone worried, since it maneuvers. Missiles can be hypersonic in speed, but not hypersonic in the sense that it is actually being used which is it changes course mid-flight. That is fairly challenging to deal with, though something like the CRAM can just saturate an area, and hope for the best. It is of course possible that the patriot system can actually track, and shoot down hypersonic glide platforms using some publicly unavailable tech, but it's more likely that the hypersonic missiles shot down were just fast conventional missiles.
I think it's just a semantics argument, the caller was technically right about Russia having hypersonic missiles, but as was pointed out, that doesn't mean anything. If it isn't capable of avoiding patriot systems while flying at hypersonic speeds, it's not considered to be hypersonic in the way we use the word today, it's just a more expensive old school hypersonic ballistic missile.
The whole joke with the Kinzhal is that its not at all like those missiles. Its just a ballistic missile, a modified Iskander, strapped to a plane. Those missiles are fastest when the engine burns out, which is before they even hit the highest point of their trajectory. Then they just slow down till impact. Kinzhal warhead is most likely hardly supersonic when it hits the ground, below the ~ mach 1.3-1.5 transonic region. Its also really easy to shoot down because you see it coming from a long distance away. That thing has nothing to do with hypersonic weapons people are talking about usually.

Not only makes it had fro radar to see, but hard for the missile owner to control it/communicate with it. You need to talk to your missile if you want to maneuver it. Not to mention the forces on the missile at low altitudes, 1 or 2 degrees of turn can result in your 15 million dollar missile disintegrating. Hypersonics are a wonder weapon to scare the public. Launching a salvo of conventional hypersonics would be some countries entire military budget. Unless there is a nuke on them, they are just a waste of money.

Regarding Kinzhal, becaue the hype around it is so stupid: The "hypersonic weapon", that are hard to shoot down, are hypersonic when the hit the target. The Kinzhal might be hypersonic at the end of the boost phase, which is early in flight, but its unpowered warhead impacting the ground will be close to mach 1, maybe even subsonic. Youll also see it coming from a 100 miles away, the idea that its hard to shoot down is laughable. This kinda ballistic missiles weapon is infact so easy to defend that most of NATO just switched to purely using cruise missiles instead. Even better, Kinzhal isnt a new weapon. Its a modified, late 80s soviet Iskander missile strapped to a plane. Its got nothing to do with hypersonic cruise missiles or reentry vehicles.

As someone who’s followed the hypersonic shoot down thing, that brief argument was cancer on both sides 😂 the argument that the kinzhal “isn’t actually a kinzhal, it’s a Fab series armour piercing/bunker busting bomb” or something like that is laughable. There’s pictures of what the unitary warhead of a Kinzhal looks like, from a failure to fire it’s motor resulting in in crashing, and it looks exactly the same as the warhead that Ukrainian sources have shared pictures of. Regarding the spacing of the mounting lugs that the orbiter was talking about, he’s wrong too. The mounting points look closer together in the photo’s than they actually are, and even then, there’s like a foot or two of space between them, instead of the less than 6 on the bomb that people claim the kinzhal is. Also, the hole in the warhead is literal proof of the Patriot shooting it down. It’s from the tungsten rods that the warhead spreads out to increase the chances of an impact.

@@deep_and_profound_topics yes. But there’s even an asterisk THERE, cause the Kinzhal is pretty much just an Iskander-M with a few changes, launched from a Mig-31, instead of ground launched. The Iskander tops out at mach 5.9, which is hypersonic, but only barely. When a Mig going mach 2 already, at a high altitude, shoots it, it’s starting at mach 2 and can get as fast as mach 10 because there’s so little atmosphere slowing it down at those altitudes. However neither of those designs was ever meant to be hypersonic at the terminal phase of their flight, so they don’t have any systems designed to see through the plasma that surrounds things moving that quickly., which means they have to dip below hypersonic speeds to be able to acquire targeting data and follow it down.

The DF-21 also appears to deploy a secondary “satellite” kind of thing at the highest altitude that it achieves, and that “satellite” is likely the thing that’s locking onto the target and sending the targeting information to the glide vehicle. There is a world of difference between a system like THAT, and a system like Kinzhal, which is effectively a normal cruise missile that just goes really fast.

The way people like Nick talk is like somebody selling a wonderful cruise. You go aboard their ship and it is very nice, it all looks wonderful and you all go sailing together around beautiful beaches or whatever when, suddenly, they stop the ship in the middle of the ocean and announce "OK, we have arrived at our destination, follow me everyone!" and jump overboard. With all of that being said, woman aren’t the only reason for lower wages. Minimum wage effects this as well. It creates scenarios where you have garbage workers being paid a wage they probably already don’t deserve. And because they have to pay a minimum despite worker performance, it means less money can be spread around to people who are good workers.
And there are many other reasons but growing your work force by 50% will for sure lower wages across the board, especially since we don’t manufacture much anymore and everything is service economy.
I made 30k most of my life. I put time and hard work and stood up for myself, dedicated myself to a craft that was valuable, not something that was "fun" or "interesting" to me.
Now I make 40 dollars an hour and plenty of overtime, my wife stays at home with the kids and respects me.

People quibble about if a hypersonic missile is one that travels hypersonic or one that can maneuver while still staying hypersonic. The Kinzhal is definitely the former, but it doesn't seem to be able to maneuver much(if any) without dropping a lot of its speed. If you go by the former, then we've had hypersonic missiles for several decades now in the form of ICBMs.
The Patriot system can down missiles that follow a parabolic trajectory pretty well, and it's downed Kinzhals pretty well so far. The system isn't good at taking down hypersonics that follow the latter's definition. It was designed a long time ago back when such missiles weren't expected for it to go up against. Those types maneuver too much while staying too fast to reliably intercept with the Patriot. The West usually uses the latter definition, which is why you see a lot of them say the Kinzhal isn't hypersonic despite it technically being faster than sound because if it were, then the Patriot would be basically useless against them.
It's really just a semantics thing. They're both using the same word, but they mean different things.

You can shoot down anything if your computer can calculate where the missile is going, if your missile is maneuverable enough, and your radar can track the target and feed it to the computer. Anti air defense systems work best when a target is coming towards them or they are being shot at. Its alot like catching a ball. If somebody throws one right at you, then you dont have to do alot of moving to catch it. Though if they throw it overtop and past you, or to the side of you, then you'll have to do alot more work to catch it. Making the target faster will increase the difficulty of intercept (hence why hypersonics are a thing), but not impossible, especially if its coming right towards you.

It's the hypersonic glide systems that have everyone worried, since it maneuvers. Missiles can be hypersonic in speed, but not hypersonic in the sense that it is actually being used which is it changes course mid-flight. That is fairly challenging to deal with, though something like the CRAM can just saturate an area, and hope for the best. It is of course possible that the patriot system can actually track, and shoot down hypersonic glide platforms using some publicly unavailable tech, but it's more likely that the hypersonic missiles shot down were just fast conventional missiles.
I think it's just a semantics argument, the caller was technically right about Russia having hypersonic missiles, but as was pointed out, that doesn't mean anything.
If it isn't capable of avoiding patriot systems while flying at hypersonic speeds, it's not considered to be hypersonic in the way we use the word today, it's just a more expensive old school hypersonic ballistic missile.
The whole joke with the Kinzhal is that its not at all like those missiles. Its just a ballistic missile, a modified Iskander, strapped to a plane. Those missiles are fastest when the engine burns out, which is before they even hit the highest point of their trajectory. Then they just slow down till impact. Kinzhal warhead is most likely hardly supersonic when it hits the ground, below the ~ mach 1.3-1.5 transonic region. Its also really easy to shoot down because you see it coming from a long distance away.

The "stealth" has a lot to do with the altitude, it's not just magically invisible. If it's flying low for whatever reason, the aircraft doesn't matter that much. I would assume they were just flying too low, not that the missile defeated the stealth capabilities as they were designed.

And when it does see it, it’s going so fast it’s hard to react/make a judgment on if it is a threat to shoot down. There is also a plasma field that coats the tip of the missile just from the insane friction forces, which making radar wave bounce off it . Not only makes it had fro radar to see, but hard for the missile owner to control it/communicate with it. You need to talk to your missile if you want to maneuver it. Not to mention the forces on the missile at low altitudes, 1 or 2 degrees of turn can result in your 15 million dollar missile disintegrating.

Regarding Kinzhal, becaue the hype around it is so stupid:
The "hypersonic weapon", that are hard to shoot down, are hypersonic when the hit the target. The Kinzhal might be hypersonic at the end of the boost phase, which is early in flight, but its unpowered warhead impacting the ground will be close to mach 1, maybe even subsonic. Youll also see it coming from a 100 miles away, the idea that its hard to shoot down is laughable.
This kinda ballistic missiles weapon is infact so easy to defend that most of NATO just switched to purely using cruise missiles instead.
Even better, Kinzhal isnt a new weapon. Its a modified, late 80s soviet Iskander missile strapped to a plane. Its got nothing to do with hypersonic cruise missiles or reentry vehicles.

As someone who’s followed the hypersonic shoot down thing, that brief argument was cancer on both sides 😂 the argument that the kinzhal “isn’t actually a kinzhal, it’s a Fab series armour piercing/bunker busting bomb” or something like that is laughable. There’s pictures of what the unitary warhead of a Kinzhal looks like, from a failure to fire it’s motor resulting in in crashing, and it looks exactly the same as the warhead that Ukrainian sources have shared pictures of.
Regarding the spacing of the mounting lugs that the orbiter was talking about, he’s wrong too. The mounting points look closer together in the photo’s than they actually are, and even then, there’s like a foot or two of space between them, instead of the less than 6 on the bomb that people claim the kinzhal is.
Also, the hole in the warhead is literal proof of the Patriot shooting it down. It’s from the tungsten rods that the warhead spreads out to increase the chances of an impact.

@@deep_and_profound_topics yes. But there’s even an asterisk THERE, cause the Kinzhal is pretty much just an Iskander-M with a few changes, launched from a Mig-31, instead of ground launched. The Iskander tops out at mach 5.9, which is hypersonic, but only barely. When a Mig going mach 2 already, at a high altitude, shoots it, it’s starting at mach 2 and can get as fast as mach 10 because there’s so little atmosphere slowing it down at those altitudes. However neither of those designs was ever meant to be hypersonic at the terminal phase of their flight, so they don’t have any systems designed to see through the plasma that surrounds things moving that quickly., which means they have to dip below hypersonic speeds to be able to acquire targeting data and follow it down.

Those kinds of vehicles use their speed to dip up and down unpredictably through the atmosphere, so you have no way of predicting where they’re going to be at any given time in the future, or what their possible trajectory is. The DF-21 also appears to deploy a secondary “satellite” kind of thing at the highest altitude that it achieves, and that “satellite” is likely the thing that’s locking onto the target and sending the targeting information to the glide vehicle.
There is a world of difference between a system like THAT, and a system like Kinzhal, which is effectively a normal cruise missile that just goes really fast.
