At the end of the day, in modern talkshow interviews, you don't actually get to know what the interviewee is about. And I think that's their purpose - you go on the show, talk crap for a while, then leave, and no-one is any the wiser as to who you are or what you're about. It's like a ruse, a trick. There's no-one in there worth seeing, so that's exactly what they show you - no-one.

In his acting school the teacher said to the class "students I want you to be chickens on a quiet Sunday afternoon in any town America. I also want you to know that nuclear war has just been declared and the bombs are launched and incoming." The entire class ran around clucking loudly and flapping their arms up and down mimicking scared chickens. Marlon sat very still and quiet in his chair pretending to lay an egg. The teacher said; "Marlon, the nuclear bombs are on the way." He simply replied; "I am a chicken what do I know about nuclear bombs.”

Marlon Brando is a true man (in my definition), he is not afraid to be himself, speaks about the things that are important to him and swims against the current without fearing the consequences. We here call such men lions in Africa. Impressive is also his education and psychological knowledge, simply said if you want to be a man Marlon Brando is a role model for all young people even today.

Brando was probably the coolest man that ever lived, he had it all and he didn’t give a shit, no one could ever out do him or make him look small, he had that ability to be top dog without trying. he was flawed as well though, to pretend he wasn’t is to misrepresent the man. He hurt those who loved him but he was a complicated character, one of the most fascinating of all time. The power of his charisma was second to none really, he could sit in a chair saying nothing and still dominate a room full of powerful characters, he did it on film, anyone else on screen became secondary. I've studied the guy long time, and seen things differently so many times I have lost count, the man is unsolvable, a unique spirit.

Brando was always so careful and deliberate when he talked - and always so considerate and generous; never harsh in his tone nor harshly critical of others. He was careful not to speak in sweeping terms or to exaggerate. You notice he was not reactive, even when Cavett tried to draw him in to some kind of reaction. I love the way he very deliberately avoided being drawn into talking about things that didn't matter to him, despite the best efforts of the host. It has taken me 38 yrs to understand why for Marlon Brando it was so much more important to talk about the injustices committed against the Native people than about his role in THE GODFATHER, by far my fav movie of all time.
Brando with all his contradictions was in my opinion basically a good human being worthy of our respect and admiration.

Marlon Brando was a gem. He could make you think. It wasn’t a pointless conversation with him it was meaningful. He was a very passionate person. RIP

Marlon Brando was way ahead of his time, in politics, in his style, classy, well behaved, this interview is something very special...the connection and honesty between these two men, very respectful but honest no BS...and the theme ...now I look at this interview from 50 years ago everything is still relevant, and I hope that A actor again can perform a message at the oscars like Brando did (with not accepting his) ..instead of SLAPPING the host like last time....

Was the "Oscars so white" complaint similar to what Brando did ? I would say no. As his actions were selfless, even if Ms Little Feather was not given the opportunity to speak.

Beyond Marlon’s mysterious and on first impressions negative persona, he’s actually pointing out his observations of the world and serious things being shunned whilst unimportant consumerism and misinterpreted media, gets tons of attention. Marlon was a very wise and caring man who saw how not only the entertainment industry, but the way the world was going in the 70s.

He reminds me of Prince’s interviews. Too cool for anyone. So humble and intelligent that they don’t realize how much they are revered. He had so much compassion before the time of enlightenment. What he talks about is what people are rioting about today! He was ahead of his time! Not many humans get to this level. Rip Marlon.

People saying brando is all confident which he is but hes more shy, reserved, soft speaker aka his personality. Not a people person.

    • @eddieingalls534

Fair point as often shyness is hidden behind arrogance but Brando exerts authority here and comes across light years ahead of the host and audience in particular with regards to style, poise and words.
He is like most acclaimed men or women, essentially flawed. Maybe as he said we never stop acting and if anyone could be acting here, it is Brando. Allowing such long moments of silence and awkwardness is not the mark of a shy person though.
Unless he is a good actor... :)

I find it interesting that Brando complains about how the Indians, Chinese and blacks are portrayed on TV but yet has no issue with the stereotype of Italians in the mafia. Being of Italian descent I take notice. I am not offended but I think it’s interesting that today we can’t make fun of ANYONE anymore except white people which I think is wrong. Life was better when we all could make fun of each other.

My goodness, not only was Brando such a commanding presence -- utterly self-contained and so comfortable in his own skin.
The guy was way ahead of his time in talking about how non-white minorities were/are represented onscreen - the stereotypes of the "stupid" black man, the "passive stupid" Indian, the Filippino houseboy, the obliging Chinese, etc, etc... A lone courageous voice during a time when no one was questioning the truth or untruths behind these unkind crude and baseless misrepresentations! So raw, so honest, so authentic!
