  • Welcome to Embracer Games Archive!
    In this video, David and Mikel take a look at some donations that have come to the archive.
    Big thanks to Slitherine, Super Rare Games, PLAION, and Limited Run Games.
    Our main focus at the Embracer Games Archive is to preserve and tribute games culture and history.
    By building an extensive archive of physically released games for the consumer market, we aim to be a resource for the gaming industry and the community around it. A source of inspiration, contemplation and further studies.
    We also want to be part of the joint effort being done to preserve as much as possible of our history. By giving institutions and other preserving games access to the archive.
    Games should be shared with current and future generations as a way to promote and show the culture and history of gaming.
    The Embracer Games Archive is part of the Embracer Group and is located in Karlstad Sweden.

    Thank you for showing all these donations. It’s always nice to see a new update from the archive. My favorite segment was obviously the vinyl soundtracks. A lot of really good ones there.

    A lot of those games and LPs in shrink wrap. I'm assuming eventually you'll have to remove the wrap so it doesn't succumb to further shrinking.

      Hi Vitas. Yes, we are removing all plastic from sealed games. We talked a lot about this in a video recently. Here is a link.

      @@embracergamesarchive That was super informative for me when I first saw it. I've actually been removing the shrink wrap from some titles in my collection, now that I know about the compression effect. Much appreciated!

    Is there any opportunity that I may volunteer for a weekend to alphabetise some of the collection?

      Thank you for the kind offer. Our plan for the fall is to organize the entire archive. This means we will consolidate and sort all the games. For example, we currently have PlayStation 4 games in many different locations within the archive. Now that almost all the games are labeled, we can move them all to the same shelf. This way, we can create sections for PlayStation, PC, Nintendo, Xbox, and more. I believe it will turn out great!

    Do yoiu also make digital backups of each game? Considering the discs and modules will detoriate over time

    • @embracergamesarchive
      @embracergamesarchive  5 дней назад +1

      Hi. As we are a privately-owned company, we currently do not have the legal right to digitally copy the games unless we have received permission from the company that owns the game.

      @@embracergamesarchive Don't you have a right to make a backup copy? I remember that was the rationale for legitimately sold software (e.g. Quaid Software's CopyWrite) and hardware (e.g. Central Point Software's Copy II PC option board) that bypassed copy-protection measures. I used to own both myself. Perhaps the laws have changed since then or are different in the EU?

    OMG that large chest. Are you considering storing every Collectors Edition etc? How is everything going to fit?! 😍

    • @embracergamesarchive
      @embracergamesarchive  5 дней назад

      Yes, collector’s editions take up a lot of space. Sooner or later, we will outgrow our current location. We mainly focus on the standard versions and a reasonable amount of collector’s editions.

    I have many questions. A) are you related to Embracer Group?! B) why is this "archive" full of sealed games? what are you archiving? free money? C) what about multiple versions of the same game / release? D) what's the deal with these atrocious stickers used in Italy? are they always on the seal, or also direct to the game case?

    • @damantioworks
      @damantioworks 5 дней назад

      The stickers are from SIAE, the Italian copyright authority, they are on the case itself, not the seal (99% of the time)

      Hi there! It’s great that you have many questions. I’ll try to answer them briefly here, but I also recommend checking out our website. I’ll include a link at the end of this response.
      -Yes, the archive is an initiative funded by Embracer Group.
      -I assume you’re referring to the many sealed Switch and PS4 games we saw in the video. They have just arrived, and we haven’t had the chance to process them yet. However, we do remove the plastic from all sealed games. We recently posted a video on how we handle sealed games.
      -We aim to build the most comprehensive archive possible of physical video games. Our focus is on the games, the gaming systems, and the accessories needed to play them. We want the archive to be a valuable resource for others who promote gaming culture and gaming history.
      -We only need one copy of each version of the games. In the future, we will need to sort out the duplicates. However, it can sometimes be quite challenging to determine if something is truly a duplicate or not.

      I hope this helps! If you have any more questions, feel free to ask

      @ amazing, thanks for the explanations! honestly I'm blown away! no disrespect, but I wouldn't expect Embracer Group to even care about gaming history, since media portrays them as "sharks", and I wouldn't think far ahead from that. it's great to know you don't keep any sealed items, it wasn't making sense! I did check your website and any info I could find, what about your database however? is it only internal? we have been growing our own database as well for a few years, so definitely interested to learn more about it! thanks again for taking the time, and sorry for being aggressive!

    • @AltarOfGaming
      @AltarOfGaming 3 дня назад

      @ oof, thats tough! i had a couple italian copies fall in my hands where it was also on the case. I guess poor Italian collectors have entire collections of "fifa cases" then! that's honestly strange, I'm guessing its a requirement for publishers for any games they want to release as italian versions? it would be insane if they were opened up, stickered, and resealed in Italy instead!

      Hello again. We’re glad to hear that our responses were helpful and provided you with more insight. We are currently working on mirroring our database. We hope to have it ready within this year. Once completed, everyone will be able to easily see what is available in the archive.
