hilariously, with almost the exact same search terms only a month later, i managed to find this video immediately before i passed out

Better thing than to yank the clock capacitor of the board is getting equivalent capacitor with higher quality insides and soldering it instead of the old one. They have limited life and when you look online, you can find lifespan for any capacitor. So get better high-quality one and it will last for quite a while, while also not damaging the console. They are also pretty easy to replace so you can try to do it yourself, or bring it to some repair shop and they will replace it for you for quite cheap price (in right repair shop).

I understand that the motive is centered more towards people who can't/are unable to solder, but you can still bring it before doing anything to any repair shop that is reputable and they will replace it and quite cheap probably. Just getting them out isn't best idea...

Fun Fact: Optical media is nuts. (as long as it's in good condition)
I love watching films for example. Streaming services are too expensive and pirating is sadly illegal. And with companies saying "you don't own digital media, you just borrow it" it's good to have something physical that they can't take away from you.
Or about movies, I absolutely frickin love the James Bond movies (there are 26). It's cheaper to just buy every one instead of having it digitally on Amazon Crime (which btw costs more to buy every single one of them), which they can take away from you without even giving you the money back.
About HDD's, they break down, yes, no question. They're also way slower and more fragile. But when it's about cost per value it's just better, that's why they're in most servers.

@@oliverer3 honestly, most SSD out there don't survive much longer than HDD. If you are careful with it. Most people say they don't last long, because they handle them like maniacs. If you handle an HDD like a raw egg and don't drop it over and over, then they could even last decades. If you don't keep scratching discs over and over, then they also can last multiple decades. The life expectations for DVD and CD are 3-6 years, but I still got discs from the late 90's and they do still work. Yes, they don't last long at all when you throw them around, but should be fine when you have a safe place to keep them.
@@Tom_Der_Echte While I agree with you on SSDs and HDDs optical disks can just disintegrate or oxidize after a surprisingly short time if not stored properly, i.e. low humidity at room temp in darkness. Most people just don't store their CDs and DVDs in archival conditions.
