Im almost 63 and my first car that i bought was in '79. It was a 1968 vw beetle convertible baja rig. Somebody had put a '72 1600cc engine in it when i bought it off of a pretty gal.
I’m 50 years old. I’ve been a Chevy guy all my life, but I somehow have had a passion for Volkswagens since I was a kid! Type I, II, Squareback,Fastback, Karmann Ghia, 411, 412… Even Rabbits and Caddys! Damnnnnnnnnnn. This brings me back. 🤘🤘
Sweet! What a goldmine for VW peeps who need parts! My very first car was a VW bug that needed fenders and other mechanical parts. At 16 years old, I sold my 4-H steer at auction and bought a 1974 bug for $400 (a long long time ago). My dad and I fixed it up together. My dad has passed; but I will always have these wonderful memories with him working on my lil' bug together.
I had a VW Squareback that I used like a truck for hauling crap back and forth to college and later a Sirocco. Both great VWs. Another great auto expedition Parker.
There used to be a massive VW junk yard in north west Arkansas. It had at one time 500+ VW's. All arranged by what they were .All the Bugs together and the Buses together and so on. It was called Way Out Salvage. I'm not sure if they are still in business or not .I traded off my old Bug years ago.
Very cool that Parker stopped to visit my neck of the woods. This place isn’t far from me. Many years ago I went there with a friend. He bought parts for his 64’ bug from the original owner.
I know EXACTLY where this place is. Two miles from where I grew up. I had several beetles, one I actually drag raced at various VW events at places like Atco, Maple Grove, Manassas, Farmington and others.
I'm a bit older than Larry, the first car I ever rode in was brand new '64 bug that I came home from the maternity ward in. It was eventually replaced by a '74 Super Beatle convertible (Ravena Green) that I took my driver's test in. My first car was a '74 Dasher that looked just like the yellow one (mine was red, they were based on the Audi Fox). Next was a '80 Scirocco S, that grey one looked like it had the S stripes. After that I had a '84.5 Wolfsberg Edition Scirocco that I owned until '99. Since then there have been a few more modern VWs but those weren't special like the older cars.
His facts are slightly off on some things but wow what a collection, it’s a pity that most of them are hanging, but not a bad buy if someone needs a motor and box and some trim to finish a project. That red delux early bay with the steering wheels looked a decent one to choose.
Being this is in PA and everything in here looks rough $500 each is a cash grab before he gets $100 each in scrap metal. I haven’t seen one in the video that has all good panels. I can only imagine east coast under carriages
It is mind-blowing! Some sixty- seventy years ago, German plants ran 24/7 producing these VW'S to satisfy world demand, and now all these machines are lying on durt, which really offended Adolf Hitler. Think about all that much human labor and material, time spent to produce them. I am amazed by the junkyard owner's passion for collecting all these VW'S. I think he collected them throughout the United States. Thank you! Very Interesting video.
I remember wen i was a kid in the 80s there was a neon green bug in the woods at an apartment complex i lived at in sparrows point md. and u could see it from the parkinglot. It was called isle of pines apartments.
The guy is a hero, he saved them from the crusher! Regardless of the condition even if you bought 4 of the same you could most likely come out with a complete car for restoration. You can’t find 1 car in these conditions for less than $1500 these days!
You can't restore them all, but you can keep them from the crusher. My aunt has the identical yard, she has 353 beetles and she loves them all, but has never denied a part to keep someone's vw running.
I grew up in the '70s with VWs, so I like the air cooled and water cooled versions. I'd love to get a Mk. 1 Rabbit GTI or pickup. or even a type 3 Squareback.
In the UK we had a multi coloured Golf & polo called the Harlequin , not a single panel was the same colour , think it was the Mk4 Golf and the Polo possibly Mk4 polo as well, thank god not many bought them they looked crap.
I had a '71 Beetle with the pop out rear windows, no rust or corrosion and in great interior/exterior condition. One of the worst mistakes I ever made was selling it for $500.
My dream as Beetle fans ? to live there of course !! many thanks for sharing this paradise included Rolls wagen ! lol ! anyway for each car 8 / 10 000 dollars of restoration cost is needed, and no vintages as Oval or the graal : Split windows model....Anyway it's stay a paradise, sadly more and more rare on this earth..... take care Bro : )
It costs more the 10000 dollars to restore such cars or bussen. Here in Europe we are not allowed to do such restaurations anymore, or at least in Belgium, due to the low emmisions standards. I did it the past. Believe me, you will find a lot of rot beneath the paint and especially on the bottom. If you want to do it properly, all must be renewed. And drain your wallet
Wish I was fairly rich and could visit this place. I would try to buy every last Volkswagen bug, engine hood door all the parts to them and all the rest of the Volkswagen cars no matter the condition and start my own Volkswagen restoration business until I offloaded everything, except for one car of my choosing that I would keep for myself, I would also have a big warehouse with an upper storage for all the parts and go through every engine rebuild every engine and try to get every car back on the road and restored I would also buy that kitchen stove inside that falling down mobile home trailer
They should not dump these valuable cars in such a place in such a manner. After all they also served a generation of people..They should all be restored and put in an Automobile museum and also give it to automobile collectors,Industrial training Institutes, scale model collectors who can use them as showpiece for study and so on.An automobile heritage conservation trust has to be started. If the automobile has completely decayed and has reached the fag end of it's lifespan and cannot be restored(somewhat similar to a person who has reached the fifth and final terminal stage of Cancer.),then it has to be broken down and given up for recycling.
Man. When you said.... Larry... I don't know where I'm going.... I thought, no lie! You said you wanted to walk down the front of the bus line and then immediately walked out into the field. Meh.
@backyardbarnfinds must have been an old video thrn that just got shared, thats a bummer, thanks for getting back to me anyway. Btw, i have a mint 68 roadrunner you might be interested in seeing

@@bartsimpson6767Absolutely. I bought an 86 Jetta diesel 5 speed four door. It was smashed on the passenger side and the body is rotten to shit. The closest thing to heaven on earth 😇❤️ 2 kinds of cars in the world VW and the rest 💯✅

Hello, would like to know where this is at to come look, to buy
The old guy knows some stuff but man he’s got a lot of stuff wrong haha
Exactly!
It would appear that most everything he collected was a waste of life’s precious time. Only a fool concerns himself with post ‘67 VWs of any kind.
What A Pair of Guys a Wealth of Knocklege my Uncle had a Dark blue Notchback

Most of these are only good for some parts. Its such a shame the previous owner stored them so poorly, Pennsylvania winters are brutal on classics.
Dasher other than North America for rest of the world it was a Mark 1 passat, By chance for the 1st time in years at a VW meet someone was in a 412.

I was there today. Lot of it is already gone. Call before you travel.

Too bad they weren't stored on blocks rather than sitting on the ground. The rust would have been far less severe on those stored there
In Europe Beetles with Rosystyle were only standard on the 1500 GT & 1600GT.
Wow, it's a good job I'm in a different country 😂

The Volkswagon Beetle is the only car the most famous in the movie Herbie The Love Bug.With the 53 number.
You could possibly make an entire working car out of parts from this scrapyard.

Not that I’m interested, but just curious, did he have titles for any of those?
Do they all have titles ? I could use a couple parts and pieces. I have a 71. Is this in Pennsylvania?
Yup
looking for type 3 parts
does he ship ? where is this ?
chrome 4 lug rims , pancake 1500 , shift knob , front and rear fenders , pedal assembly , brake reservoir with cap , Etc.
The Karmin this looked interesting. any dashs ? perhaps bus or early bug ? guess I need to measure. I think Austin is wider inside.
