  • This diorama was inspired by Staverton Bridge in Devon. It’s a beautiful place I have frequented throughout my life.
    This diorama gave me the opportunity to work with a seafoam trees, balsa wood, WWS stones, Woodland Scenics resin and, of course, a range of static grass and scatters from WWS, Woodland Scenics and Gaugemaster to create the scene. I also included daffodils to give a sense of the season.
    The final photos were taken between Haytor and Bovey Tracey.

    Great detailing, but I could not be doing different levels and directions of small shoals of rainbow trout at different levels of say 4 water pours, three for fish levels laying across one another with maybe a pike hanging around in the stones, and one top pour to cover everything else. You can create such detail with clear water resin as every level a pour mixes with the next and anything at different levels brings the water alive.

    • @DartsideScenics
      @DartsideScenics  Год назад

      Very true. I haven’t tried the different levels yet as the colour I use is often too murky to see a lot of detail. I think I would need to do a test first rather than risk it on a model I’ve spent a long time on!

  • @CloneDaddy

    This is amazing. I used to live not far from this bridge. When I left home at 19 my first job was in Huxhams Cross and I used to cross this bridge most days.
    There also *used* to be a brilliant little camp spot just to the west of the bridge on the north bank. All closed off now by "owners". I canoed this stretch with my son a few years ago, and as soon as we came under the bridge we came under a hail of stones from builders who think it's OK to assault people on the water, because if their boss owns the land he owns the water, too.
    Anyway, I have a lot of fond memories of this place, and this is a fantastic model. Well done.

    Absolutely stunning Andy, worth every minute of the many hours you have put into that and the Bovey Tracey shots really did it justice mate. I have recently used your videos to help me create a stream bed and a Devon bank and have been delighted with the results. Just one note of interest, I noticed that your resin had clouded over in places after curing, I had the same in some areas and put it down to the temperature being a bit low but a quick application of Mod Podge for ripples soon hid it. Have you found another other solution for that? Cheers Steve

    • @DartsideScenics
      @DartsideScenics  2 года назад

      Thanks Steve. I would love to see the photos of your modelling. Yes, the Mod Podge seemed to cure the film on top of the resin. It might be the cold temperature in my garage or I didn’t mix it well enough. I have read of people sanding it and then adding a thin layer of resin over the top but I don’t think I’ll be trying that!!

    Question Andy. What size WWS light grey stones did you use? They do fine medium and large.

    Why super glue? And who makes the grey Stones? And finally how do you get rid of the balsa texture?

    • @DartsideScenics
      @DartsideScenics  2 года назад

      Hi Mike. Super glue was probably due to time limitations and wanting to move on to the next stage. I have put product links in the video description (they are WWS stones). The plaster of paris helps to remove the balsa texture. You could also stipple on watered down filler which gives a nice stone texture.

    As a Total novice to this What is the idea behind the watered down washing up liquid ??

    • @DartsideScenics
      @DartsideScenics  2 года назад +1

      Hi Phil. If you put scenic glue on certain scatters/powders, it can bead and make a bit of a mess. The watered down washing up liquid breaks the surface before applying the glue. You can also use isopropyl alcohol.

    Wow! How is it you have only 588 subscribers? If anyone is interested in making dioramas they need to subscribe to this channel. I can’t wait to use the techniques you demonstrated in your video.
