Holy hell your car is clean. Nice video, helped a lot as I was ready to go at the interior like a pitbull to get to the junk on top of the tank initially. Finally got mine out and it was a nightmare, more rust than actual car everywhere, most of the hose clamps just disintegrated when I touched them and now I have to redo the metal fuel lines that broke. Only pulled it to fix a giant rot out spot where the filler neck of the tank meets the rubber hose. Previously it would just spray fuel like the scene in Zoolander every time you got gas causing the genius gas attendants to make profound doctorate level declarations like "you car is leaking gas" and " you should get that fixed". Hopefully that will all change and they'll go back to the usual hitting on my girlfriend when I'm not in the car once its all back together.
Glad i read the description too, i'm gonna tackle a fuel leak at the filler hose inlet above my subframe. Dropping the rear end with the rust i've got isn't an option, so i'll probably use a sheet metal nibbler or something to cut an access panel.
"Fantastic video! I have a question: it seems the differential has been removed. Do we need to add back the differential fluid before reinstalling it? What about the transmission fluid? I'm having my Service D and a tank replacement done on my 2020 Forester due to animal damage (which is covered by warranty). I'm wondering if any part of the tank replacement is related to the differential or transmission fluid replacement. Probably save some money on my service D
Any idea what the difference is between the tank in the car and the tank in an XT is? Two different part #'s. The STI uses the same tank as the XT, but I'm not sure what the difference is.
I initially wanted to go that route, but would have had to cut through the tube steel that is where the seats bolt to. Would have been much more invasive than just cutting floor sheet metal like I was initially thinking.
I don’t believe you need to pull the whole tank just to change the fuel neck. You just need to pull the plastic shield underneath it, disconnect the rubber hose from the steel neck, then you can unbolt the neck and pull it up through the filler flap
I owe you a huge "THANK YOU." I watched this video repeatedly and swapped the fuel cut valves today. This video a Chilton's manual really helped.
Happy to help!

Thank you for making this video.
Thank you so much. I have a rusted through tank and this helps so much

Did you ever find difference
What part or valve you replaced?
I am in need of your assistance bud. I'm leaking fuel at the yellow elbow at 14:17 is that a separate piece or is it attached to the fuel tank?
I have pictures and a video unfortunately I can't post it in comments
I have an 07 with this problem , hope I can fix it .
Hello, i have the same problem. would it be possible to hole cut out the trunk above the evaporation connections? and then replace them from trunk?
I initially wanted to go that route, but would have had to cut through the tube steel that is where the seats bolt to. Would have been much more invasive than just cutting floor sheet metal like I was initially thinking.
also, you didnt show what was wrong. Was it the roll over evap connections or the evap cutoff valve? what needed replacement? many thanks!
One of the rollover valves had a crack in it where it connects to the rubber hose. I replaced both rollover valves.
any part number for the roll over valve?

How long did this job take you ?
About ten hours
I wish the underside of mine looked like that - we are in the rust belt and I have to do this job, ughhhhhhh.
Damn that’s a lot of work for just changing the steel fuel neck 😩

Thanks alot!!!!
Subaru have always had a stupid fuel tank system with unnecessary problems why complicate a fart , and more so why not a plastic tank .
I would pay to drop the gas tank. Too much work and definitely not the kind of job for a novice.
