An actuator. They used small 12 volt DC ones on the old big satellite dishes in the 80's to turn the satellite dishes. I used one to lift and lower my 3 point hitch on my John Deere 110 back in the 90's. They are great for projects..

Jonathan W I would like to find some 12 volt ones for projects The 3 point hitch would be a good project for my JD112

I have a couple of those that I got off a hospital bed and thought I would use them on a hoya lift to lift the rear end of riding mowers, but the motors didn't have enough umph to lift them, so now I am going to mount part of it on my work bench to lift one end of the push mowers (I hope).

The Shade Tree Fix-it Man This mounts in the pipe with the 2 metal shoes on the plastic threaded part so It will slip if it has to much force put on it

I can see how that would come in handy. I'm sure you'll figure out a good use for it.

looking forward to see what you make with that. I'm seeing a single glass apple cider press :)

belgrademachine I have a few Ideas for this It is designed so the threaded plastic bushing will slip if it has to much force applied to it pushing or pulling the pipe part also there are pins limiting the travel to about 1 foot

I'm a little tardy to the party lol, but it's called a linear actuator. I just started playing around with them the last month or so. There's endless applications for them. What did you end up doing with this one?

I still have it sitting in the corner of the shop ...Wish I had filmed how I made it run in each direction ..It is easy to wire and I should have a switch that will work

Your voice sounds like John Wayne! I am needing to operate an electric hospital bed on 12 volt DC affordably. What do you suggest? Also is this the type of motor they use on rolling metal window shutters?

You can buy an inverter that hooks to a 12v car battery and you can run 110 volt things on it ..I do not know about the shutter motors

I have the same motor and trying to figure out how it works. There are three wires going to the motor, right? A red, black and white one. Could you tell me how you connected these to get the motor running and changing the direction? I do not want to break mine and you already have figured out how it works. Maybe you can give a hint?
