Brian, just wanted to say this: I watch all your videos since a long time and learn to admire you and your strenght in all aspects. That said, yesterday I did my first Strongman class and now I admire you even more. Strongman is extremely fun AND hard, but fun! But hard! I couldnt believe how hard it was when I tried to pick up a atlas stone from the ground and shoulder it, even though I have watched you do and teach that dozens of times. Cheers!
Dude I remember I came across you when you had just under 40k subs. seeing how much you've grown is inspiring. The fitness community is a better place with you in it :)
I've watched ALOT of YT squat videos and these are some of the best tips for squat setup. Can't wait to get under the bar and put them to practice. Thanks.
don't know why i am addicted to watching squat videos! i just started and working with 135 getting used to the movements, mobility and form etc. I love it, want to start slow, safely and correctly. Much love to Brian and Alan Thrall. Good info
Couple things: I dig the dark blue shirts... Uncle Nic has the best walkout ever. And the squat setup tips are really useful. You definitely nailed a couple of my errors here.
I always squatted narrow grip and got bad wrist pain from it. Then I watched some very good Squatters like Misha Koklyaev, who squat with the hands at the plates and kind of squeeze the lats more. This worked for me as well.
The one tip you gave that changed my squat significantly was leaning into the bar and pushing against it in the rack so it sits FIRM in the slot. Then the "wrap the bar" cue.
I am glad you made this. I have always wondered why so many people I have seen squat will spend forever getting their body into the exact perfect position while the bar is on the rack. They screw their feet into the ground and get their back in the perfect position. They do the two inch squat to get the bar off the pins and walk back quickly. And then however their body ends up at the last step, they start squatting. They have one knee all the way out to the side, the other foot is standing on a plate someone left out. The bar is at a 45 degree angle on their back. I have always taken a couple of seconds after the walkout to gather myself and make sure I am all lined up. Looks like I am not the weird one, or no weirder than you anyway.
Love the shirt, would totally buy one. Also, just wanted to take a minute to say how much you’ve motivated my training. Two months ago I my max squat was 135# (I know, go cry for me lol). But today I hit a 190# PR and I only weigh 145. Thanks for the motivation and great content! Keep it comin!
Ill buy it bro. Thanks I have a terrible bad habbit of walking it out fast thanks for the reminder. I think in my head the faster i drop in the more power i will save and have to finish the rep but you totally right when the weights get heavyier the costs are highter.
Perfect timing! I'm going to leave this video playing while I sleep so when i wake at 5 am to head to the gym my mind will be full of your voice reminding me to hit all the cues haha 👌
Also, yeah I like the blue shirt, but I'm saving for my first power lifting belt and shoes so I don't have the free cash yet, so they will be sold out before I make it lol
Mr. Alsruhe! Thanks to your bench video i raised my bench from 215 to 245! Thank you so much. The shirt looks awesome but do you know when the next restock of the Die Empty Grey sleeveless will be? Looking for that medium :)
Every time I see that South Korean flag, I feel like I should bow. My whole child hood I grew up in a tung soo do dojo. Every time I walked in and out had to bow to that flag. Love your channel, thanks for the great vids!!!✌🏻
That feeling when you try to bend that bar on your back when it has a lot of weight on it and you feel how it crushes your spine and scapula while you hold your breath so it doesn't colapse on you......priceless
42 here. Just started lifting again after like 6 years. Also went keto and have lost 40lbs. Bought some farmers carry handles and love it. But I have no idea how often to do it or how far or how heavy to go. Did 120lbs in each hand for 3 sets of about 15 yards. I want to do it like every day! But I know that's probably too much. Oh also I have no idea why, but I ordered a 20" beach ball to paper mache. What is wrong with me.
I've heard you preach about the SSB squats and opted out on it, and now that I've been working my mobility following a shoulder surgery (had a massive bone spur on the backside of my clavicle and had to be cut out), I really wish I would've gotten it. I'm well ahead my projected recovery time but still not 100% yet. I'm dying without being able to do dips, heavy bench, OHP and squats.
I have to say, the DE portion of dark horse has been GREAT for me to practice my setup on the big four. Someone even mentioned to me that I do the exact same things in the exact same order every time. I told em where I learned that. The more consistent you are, the less "oh I forgot xyz" that you get.
Great video!!! Awesome knowledge squatting is my favourite exercise! When I get fatigued and squatting heavy my form varies slightly but with these helpful tips I believe I can rectify the situation thanks heaps 😊
In order to engage a little bit more the core, make contact within your tongue and upper palate, it will make a difference for sure at the bottom of the squat.
Checklist: Grip width, creep closer every set and squeeze the bar Pull the bar through your chest (melded to your body) Breathe and brace before bar leaves rack. Stand up explosively and stand solidly until weights settle. Engage glutes (flex butt) involve posterior chain to lock in solid.
I was doing squats today and my friends were telling me to hurry up, because a few guys were done with the last station (I don't know how normal it is, but at football S&C we rotate through stations, a different lift or two at each station) and I went just as slow and sure as I usually do to get my setup right. I ended up getting a PR set by doing that, and hopefully those guys waiting didn't mind too much that it took me a couple minutes
Hey Brian, Loving the content. You've talked about having broken your back before, you also lift heavy weights all the time. With that in mind, Im sure you have a lot to say about back pain/injuries/tweaks and how you deal with them. Would love to hear your take on the subject. Appreciate it!
I've been squatting with my grip pretty close together since I started training five months ago. I don't have very good shoulder flexibility at all, but I got used to a narrower grip. Except recently I've noticed a weird feeling below my scapula bone on the left side. It's not painful necessarily, but it's very distracting, which is dangerous. Widening the grip slightly does seem to help with that.
Just hit a pr 405 squat today
Saluted
how much you weigh?
Erel H L 180 lbs
Good for you
this person's dad nice

Yes shirt looks good
The pulling the bar to you plus your bracing trips completely changed how I feel during the squat! And by that indeed way stronger
Alan Thrall - Powerlifting

I don't know about you guys, but i think Uncle Nic's walkout looked perfect.
CatlikeCrab and unless I am mistaken, I hear the close of “Dream on” playing in the background. That only made it better...
Dude I remember I came across you when you had just under 40k subs. seeing how much you've grown is inspiring. The fitness community is a better place with you in it :)
I wish I had 1/2 of Brian’s enthusiasm and I am fairly enthusiastic! Great content.
I've watched ALOT of YT squat videos and these are some of the best tips for squat setup. Can't wait to get under the bar and put them to practice. Thanks.
Not sure why I enjoy your videos so much, but I do. I am 6ft 135lbs never workout, but I can't stop watching your vids. Keep it up!

I just wanted to thank you! I busted my plateau of the last two months and did a PR, thanks to your Tipps! Keep the great work!
This always goes across my mind as I'm getting ready for squats from your coaching last year. Thanks!
Couple things:
I dig the dark blue shirts...
Uncle Nic has the best walkout ever.
And the squat setup tips are really useful. You definitely nailed a couple of my errors here.
Thanks Brian. The close hand ques, taking the time to prep and the explosive push ques are very useful.
I always squatted narrow grip and got bad wrist pain from it. Then I watched some very good Squatters like Misha Koklyaev, who squat with the hands at the plates and kind of squeeze the lats more. This worked for me as well.
favorite coach. always explain details in easy ways , this just shows how experienced coach brian is!!
The one tip you gave that changed my squat significantly was leaning into the bar and pushing against it in the rack so it sits FIRM in the slot. Then the "wrap the bar" cue.
You always present very good technical information, but in a very entertaining way.
Dam...I have been lifting for years and never heard of squeezing the bar during a squat...I see how this will increase power. Thank you!
I'm ready to call it. Brian Alsruhe is now the best lifting coach/teacher/fountain of lifting knowledge on You Tube!
Either him or Alan thrall but Alan is kinda cringy sometimes
Yes please put those on sale! Thanks Brian!!!
Went from struggling with a 135lb squat to now squatting 335lb in 6 months with these tips tysm !
My man
Just applied these tips and squats felt better then ever before!

Holy shit this video was made specifically for me! I make those exact mistakes, and now I know how to fix them! THANK YOU. I like the shirt!
Great video and great shirt idea
Ill buy it bro. Thanks I have a terrible bad habbit of walking it out fast thanks for the reminder. I think in my head the faster i drop in the more power i will save and have to finish the rep but you totally right when the weights get heavyier the costs are highter.
You're a good person Brian, not only a freaky talented trainer and athlete!
Great video!! Informative and entertaining 💪🏼definitely following these cues! Thanks
THANK YOU! This is right exactly a day before my leg day...Thanks Brian!
Always lift a weight you can manage, I've seen some real bad mistakes and injuries when people go heavy to soon without building strength.
Great tips! I like how the shirts came out, I'd be willing to buy it.
Perfect timing! I'm going to leave this video playing while I sleep so when i wake at 5 am to head to the gym my mind will be full of your voice reminding me to hit all the cues haha 👌

yootoober49 grip is worked by slow twitch muscles so doing it every day is fine
Brent Baranoski farmers carry isn’t just grip and grip shouldn’t be the only thing behind that decision
Cool shirt! Thx for the video!!

Great advice man. I've never tried flexing my butt, will definitely try on my next workout
In order to engage a little bit more the core, make contact within your tongue and upper palate, it will make a difference for sure at the bottom of the squat.
This video literally fixed my squat. Thank you so much Brian!! :)

Hey Brian,

"dancing like a cat in the litter box" lmao.. 👍 I'm guilty of that.
Shirt looks good to me. I would totally buy one.

Yes on the shirts!
