When I first started lifting, I learned to get your face out of the way the hard way. Pressed up, clocked myself in the chin, glasses flew off. Tried to play it like I didn't just punch myself in the face, but there's no way to play that cool.

    • @arthurpenndragon6434

I’ve wacked myself in the chin before doing ohp. I was doing them for reps so i just kept going. Worry about my chin after the set. Thankfully I didnt bust it open.

The breathing up top is probably what helped me the most since i first heard it. Especially in my overhead squat, which also helps my overhead press because it takes a lot to stabilize a weight overhead like that.

Jacob Morenzoni I would agree that 495 is impressive but OHP you just feel in your bones heavy and although few will bench 495 same is said for a strict 225 (or better)..... just takes so much more core and shoulder stability

I’ve been overhead pressing for over 10 weeks now. I started off with 7 week of 3x15 and then moved into a program with 12-10-8. I’m happy I learned the technical points of attention from you and Alan Thrall so I can safely increase the weight over time. I’m not super strong but it gives a very effective stimulus for my core, delts, triceps and shoulder stabilizing muscles every time I do them.

Recently heard about a challenge laid out some years ago by jim wendler and paul carter (if you look up what constitutes strong you should find the article). Its a set of strength standards in 7 lifts:
    Bench 315 lbs x 20
    Squat/Deadlift 500 lbs x 20
    Dip 200 lbs x 10
    Chin up 100 lbs x 10
    Strict press 315 lbs x 1
    Barbell curls 185 lbs x 10
Now I know brian doesnt do curls, but nonetheless I was thinking and looking through Brian's old videos, and I think brian is the only natural (I believe) guy I've ever heard of who is or ever was capable of doing all of these at the same time. Brian is truly on an elite level of strength, and yet hes still so down to earth and puts out content that will help everyone from other guys on his level all the way down to guys who are benching the bar. You're awesome brian!!

Ask yourself, if a challenge is so ridiculous that only non-natural people can complete it, maybe the one "natural" guy who can do it isn't as natural as you think... Especially if you look at some of his pics/numbers from before he was sick. Not that it matters, i love Brian, but you gotta be realistic.

@@rfo98b brian has claimed natural in the past in a reddit ama, but regardless of whether hes natural or not, its still impressive. My point was less about whether or not hes natural, but more about how a guy at his elite level strength is still able to relate well to lifters of all different levels and provide helpful content for everyone
