Sometimes rust is hidden really well, like in double skinned parts of the car. Good luck finding them fast enough. And about the show being scripted, I think they spend a bit of time finding the correct car and then build the episode around it. In this case they wanted to show that you can customize a SJ410 for cheap and have fun even without it being road legal, but beware, it could become a money pit.

As it was only a cheap SJ410 and the production wanting Edd to cut corners no wonder it lost money
