Damn that Translator’s Japanese fluency is amazing!
Yeah, super impressive. Loved this interview
No shit, that's his job??
@@smartfreak7105 some people aren’t good at their jobs 🤣
Thank you! It’s actually how I got into Honda, but now I’m a manager in Product Planning! I was just helping TFL for the interview! 👍🏾
@@jonathonrivers6640 Can you please help Honda plan some rear AC vents in sub 30k cars 🙏🏼
Even though theyre different classes, im considering this or the new Camry Hybrid.
'Same here. The Camry is hybrid-only, now. It might be a somewhat better value, but probably not as fun to drive and it's larger than what I need or want. And doesn't offer a hatchback.
I hate the whole class thing. Very similar in room on the interior and very close mpg, even similar price even though Camry is a bit more. Civic definitely has a more sporty feel and looks way better and the interior is more refined imo
Bonjour Tommy and welcome to Canada. Honda has thrown down the gauntlet with a Civic Hybrid which is bigger and more powerful than the Corolla. All the Civic needs now is AWD.
Let's hope the next Corolla matches the Civic for interior space and performance. Of course, all these comparisons go out the window if the Civic hybrid sedan costs almost as much
as the Camry. 😁
Yeah, honda's cost too much in every offering they have, super cool car but at the same price, i will buy the prius...if toyota canada offer a prius LE in canada, not only the XLE and up...
Wont happen pal. Toyota can’t match what Honda Hyundai kia or Mazda can do
Toyota tried to respond to the 2016 civic with the 2020 corolla and it lost badly to the Honda instantly
This won’t be different. Toyota can redesign the corolla 500 times over and over and it would still fail to compete with the civic Elantra etc
The corolla ostensibly doesn’t exist anymore
@@naveenthemachine The Corolla never really did in my book, I have had 2 Civics I put 250K on each. Corolla's paint job is terrible, they have to be garaged.
rightlane, the Accord Hybrid is perfect for you since you're so tall and lanky!
Civic type R needs AWD. All that power going to front wheels = wheel spin city
Part of me wanted to have buyer's remorse that I bought a 2024 Civic Sport just days before these 25 hybrids were announced. But with some of the scary reporting on how intrusive vehicle privacy has gotten, it's probably for the better I don't have google in my car tracking my every movement and selling that data. Also the 2.0 NA is bulletproof, but who knows how the rest of the electric powertrain will age alongside it.
They just killed the Accord with this. Time to change out my 23 Accord Touring! 😆
Just bought a 2024 Tiguan. But im thinking ill be trading up in 2026 to this!
I am not 100% sure but I think some countries have e:hev civic and accord for 2024 models or even 2023 (also not sure if they are the same). But even so, the changes to the 2025 look is very nice. As much as I love my 10th gen civic (which is still at around 50k km), i am very tempted to get either this or the accord (i like the convenience thingie like the memory seat settings, but might be too wide considering that I tend to squeeze on tight spots with my current civic) ;)
Thanks for the review!
You’re right china market has the e:hev from 2023 model also the price is a lot cheaper then USA! Top trim only 24k (also they have huge discount) Out door price range 16k-20k USD$
What is your height? Your knee is touching a steering wheel
nice but the new prius has awd......
Give us a manual option
Manual is dead it was less than 5% of sales
The take rate is low for manual versus automatic. You have the Type-R in manual
Honda needed to do this aand I applaud this effort. Honda interiors are a step above Toyotas in these lower priced vehicles. I hope this powertrain makes its way to the HRV to give the Corolla Cross Hybrid a challenger in this space. The Toyota just isn't as nice inside.
The only way it could compete with the Corolla Cross Hybrid is if they made this powertrain AWD, which is what the Corolla Cross Hybrid is.
@@morganmossman1955 I don't think AWD is that important for most buyers. Lexus sells a FWD UX200H which is on the same platform as the Corolla Cross. Most people just want a fuel efficient small crossover and 200 hp is a nice bonus.
you might wanna check out the uk website of honda.
this tech already made it into the HRV, CRV and civic years ago.
honda will introduce it to the US cause doing so costs them almost nothing
Toyota more reliable than Honda and I own a Type R and a Corolla hatchback. Honda also suffer from early rust.
The CRV already have an AWD setup. The HRV chassis allows for an AWD setup, so it shouldn't be hard for Honda to use the CRV Hybrid powertrain in the HRV.
Definitely going in the right direction back to its roots of fun and reliability.
reliable? lets hope. probably
Reliability?
Nice car and a solid review. Enjoyed the interview with the engineer. TY.
WE just got an Accord Hybrid EX-L (better mileage than the sport with the smaller, lighter wheels). You can go 70 on flat highways in EV mode for a bit. Have seen 53+ on a tank of mixed driving.
I've been averaging 50 with the sport. Same with 70mph. I've noticed it's best to stay 65 or slower for gas in it though
I think I would go for the ‘25 Civic Sport Hybrid Hatchback. (I like the rear design of the hatchback better)
The overall envelope of the car will be nearly the same size, but you'll have more cargo space and more usable (wide-open) cargo space with the hatch, plus maybe a smidge more rear seat headroom as Tommy noted.
Do you know if the climate control can run with engine off?
@@ruiqianren9405 AC is driven off of the inverter. If you’re heating the cabin then the engine will kick on.
@@michaelnash2972 thank you. So it could run AC with engine off, but running heat requires the engine to be on?
@@ruiqianren9405 Correct. Plug in Hybrids like RAV4 Prime, Prius Pime, etc can run heat without the engine running. Regular hybrids will kick on the engine to heat the cabin.
cant wait for the hybrid hatch!
Hi Tommy
I'm so sorry for your trip in Montreal for the roads lol
Welcome to Montreal Quebec 😊
The wife might like this, she’s gotta lead foot and hugs trees😂
why not buy her a 2024 Mitsubishi Mirage? It gets 50 mpg in real world driving and it's a lot cheaper, like half the price of a fully loaded 2025 Civic
@sachinnair91 the only thing the Mirage does fast is get nowhere! 😂
@@johnkonde1975what?! The mirage is hideous looking and the mpgs are not the same and it’s only 78 hp 🤣
@@SuperDB215 looks good to me and many Mirage owners have told me they get 50 mpgs. As for the 78 hp, it only weighs 2000 pounds so it doesn't need much power
@@johnkonde1975 Good luck getting that engine and transmission to 100,000 miles.
And even if you do get it to 100,000 miles, good luck selling it. You won’t be able to sell a 100,000 miles Mitsubishi Mirage that is 5 years old for half its price.
You can easily sell a 100,000 miles Toyota/Honda that is 5+ years old for more than half the price you bought it for off the lot. Because to a buyer, a Toyota/Honda with 100k miles have another 125k miles to go. A Mitsubishi Mirage with 100k miles has outlived its lifespan and is running on borrowed time.
Im really happy they didn't put s iPad as a gauge cluster 😊😊😊
OG Japanese guys like this gentlemen are EXACTLY why Japanese cars are better!
Culture matters
Tommy repeatedly says that little has changed but the powertrain,. but that's not correct. The structure of the car and the suspension have both been improved, and sound insulation and active noise cancelation have been added as well - all of that making the car handle better, ride better, safer in a crash and quieter riding - that's a lot of improvements! The electronic ADAS and infotainment systems have also both been upgraded. Finally, the hybrid powertrain has significantly improved both gas mileage and acceleration. All in all, the 2025 hybrid Civic is a major improvement over the 2024 ICE Civic.
@@barry7920 Except no spare tire!
The problem is most Japanese cars aren't still assembled in Japan except for Mazda.
@@rkgsd Not all of Mazda is assembled in Japan. US assembled Japanese cars have a fantastic track record of quality. The difference is the leadership at the top is Japanese culture.
We're paying almost 30 grand, just put a compact spare tire, geez
Then don't buy it lol
I think that would decrease electric range
I think that would decrease electric range
You can buy a spare tire for like $60-$80. It’s really not that serious.
Ask them to throw in the spare tire kit
I think the Civic is still one of the all around best sedans for sale. If I were going to buy a simple, efficient sedan, I'd be looking at the Civic, Insight, Accord, Corolla, and Camry. They're just good.
To be honest I've debated trading in my 2023 accord hybrid for this hybrid civic. I just prefer the drive of the civic and it's quicker with the new hybrid. Also, I could've gotten the touring for the same price as my accord sport hybrid. Almost makes you question if the accord is worth the price outside of extra space.
@@tonyredemann2001 totally agreed. This Civic is pretty much 2009 Accord size anyway.
Thank you for interviewing the legendary Akimoto san! Is the translator an Acura's executive?
TFL asked if I could help with interpretation, which is actually how I got into Honda. Now I work as a manager in Product Planning (and have worked on several Acuras)!
This looks like a better daily driver than the Accord, unless you frequently have passengers in the back seat. No vents or USB outlets for the back is a bit of a miss. Otherwise, great looking car.
I think it has USB but no rear vents not sure.
It shocks me how much better the stying of the Civic is over the new Accord.
@@tomtest891 and the civil looks exactly like an accord prior generation just smaller.
How did this new one even get approved.
This happen twice before where Honda releases a terribly styled accord while the civic looks much better.
But back then the accord had much more powerful engines and way more space.
It still has a ton of space but the new civic is a midsize not packing in space almost as roomy as the Camry minus some headroom and tiny amount of hip room
Will sell like hotcakes
Hopefully not because I want to buy one without the dealer mark ups lmao
I wonder what hotcakes sold like… 🧐
I like crabcakes
WOW! An interview with Akimotosan! Congrats. The gentleman who is translating ... is he an the Acura Integra design lead? You should give him some props.... Thank you for the interview. I'm so glad Honda is maintaining some sporting culture. I wish we could have seen more about the hatchback! Hatchbacks Rule! Thank you!
Honda needs to give the Ridgeline some love
Yes it's due for a major redesign, and the Tacoma just had a major redesign. Hopefully Honda swings for the fences with the next Ridgeline.
This is going to impact the sales of the accord.
Funny thing about your video I've automatically! recognize the Bad road of Montréal 😂 cuz I live in MTL. Welcome Tommy
Fantastic package from Honda. Be prepared for huge dealer markups on this vehicle.
Nope it’s high volume
Yes, I've heard of dealer profiteering on the '25 Civic at the moment, but I imagine that will subside greatly within 6 months.
Probably have to wait 2 years to buy one
I drove one of these the other day. I didn't expect to like it. I didn't even really want to drive it. But I absolutely loved it. It's definitely on my short list for my next car. Was very fun to drive. Not quite "Si fun", but very fun overall, and very solid, very comfortable, and moderately refined. I was very impressed!
Waiting for the hatchback drive. Great review.
When you are touching a car that you do not own, please remove all watches and jewelry.
You are scratching this car.
You should have already learned this.
I don't care about infotainment. I care about music and power. I want a computer will bring my phone or go home. I want nothing to do with Google if I can help it..
Germany here, I have the hybrid e:HEV Civic (185 hp hatchback ) now more than 1,5 years and I must say best Civic ever and the fuel efficiency is just awesome, You do not notice the switch in transmission between electro engine and normal engine and when you kickdown the engine/ computer produces an artificial sound as if gears are being changed.
But it’s basically an electric car no? the engine is just there to charge the battery most of the time
I'll be considering this as my next vehicle.
No rear cooling vents and no spare tire?! You've got to be kidding! How stupid! If people know this I'll bet it will cut way back on sales!
Necessary
A bit rude that you were no longer looking at Mr. Aikimoto when asking the question and, instead, just addressing Mr. Rivers.
Is the ICE engine portion of the hybrid 2025 Civic carbon-sludge direct-injection or does it have some proper port-injection to prevent it? Per the Honda website, it looks like 100% direct-injection, so carbon sludge engine it is since top tier fuel additives/cleaners can't hit a good portion of what they need to in a 100% GDI engine like they can with a port-injected engine. 🙁
This hybrid design is future proof. Imagine, hydrogen instead of the gas engine, with battery technology improvements - battery with a larger capacity, more efficient/stronger electric motors.
I'm sure it's a fine vehicle (If not a little sanitized) but I'm going with the old-school 24 Sport Touring Hatch with the 1.5T / 6MT... I want a car for driving not for being a passenger (please see definition for 'enthusiast') ...Regards
cars are no longer very affordable now...in 2000 people on minimum wage can buy a base civic
I had a 2010 Civic Hybrid as a company car for a short time (thankfully). It couldn’t get out of its own way. Slowest car I’d ever driven. It couldn’t even hold speed with cruise set on hills on the interstate. Great stereo though…
I really think this thing's interesting direct drive transmission contraption seems so much nicer than some competitor's CVTs. It doesn't seem nearly as annoying while driving.
Man I REALLY want a performance version of this with 250+hp. I can totally see Honda achieve a 40mpg average with that car and I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
Dear Honda, start selling spare tires as an accessory option for those of us who'd like that!
Get a Camry for the same price, more power, larger, more features, more reliable, more mpg.
If only they didn't botch the styling on the new Camry... It's a great package but hideous to look at imo
I can see it to some point but if you equally option the Camry to the Civic Sport Touring, the Camry gets really expensive to almost Lexus territory.
A Toyota Camry has nowhere near the same built quality. I can assure you that
No hatch back though :(
I always wanted the hatchback so 😉
Yeah, the hatchback is the way to go
There has been like 10 different reviews of this Civic in the past 24hrs 😁😁 Tedward, Straightpipes, what’s going on 😁
The manufacturers have embargos on reporting until a specified date and time. Then the floodgates open.
Why has Honda dropped Sirius XM radio? This is a deal breaker for me in this new model. Honda is killing me!!
Can't you connect with your iPhone or Android device?
All I want for Christmas is a Honda Civic 2025 Hybrid in blue for MSRP. I have a better luck believing in Santa Clause.
It's only June, Bud. Get a job at McDonald's or Walmart or do food delivery or Uber. Whatever it takes.
@@johnkonde1975 I already have the money Bud, just waiting on good timing, my local Honda dealer still has a 7 to 11K markup on the existing 24 Civics.

Apple car play have you heard of it?

Bought the first white on gray Sport Touring spec on the East Coast and absolutely LOVE this car!!
That would be amazing as a manual transmission vehicle.
Idk i see about 40mpg in my 1.5 . If you dont have civic then it makes sence but not for the people that has one
Eawd is coming to honda hybrids confirmed
When is another story.
No spare tire? wtf I’ll pass
Again, no spare???
We should stick with super high efficiency hybrid car and tax more on full size SUV.
Most people don’t need a big ass SUV and they literally just buy a huge ass SUV to waste gas😂
I will add big ass pickups that most of them have nothing but a couple sticks of lumber in them. Also, the Accord has more HP and torque from it's hybrid unit
If they can afford to waste gas why are you worried about it?
All the people with 4+ kids should make them lap up in a compact hybrid. Its for the planet.
There will be a snow day in he'll before that
@@JDMSwervo2001cuz he can't afford it
No vented seat's is the reason I'm out once you go vented you can't go back
Vented seated is required on leather seating surfaces. Good old cloths seats required no venting.
Absence of lumbar support adjustment is a dealbreaker for me on Civic
@@David_Journeyah no, cloth seats need venting too. My back gets sweaty af on hot days with cloth seats.
Spare tire will make this civic the best automobile of all for its price
You can. Buy what used to be a free safety like headphone dongles for a couple hundred
What happened to buying a compact civic. I can’t stand that they are making Civic and Corollas medium sized cars! If I wanted a medium sized car I’ll buy a Camry or Accord, all cars are bulky and ugly.
Camry and Accord are growing to nearly full size. The Camry is now picking up some of the slack that the Avalon left behind.
I'm looking for great gas mileage. This seems to have what I need
When your basic commuter is around $30k, you're overpriced.
I agree that Civics used to be cheaper - but everything *used* to be cheaper. In 2024, the average price paid for a new vehicle per Cox Automotive is $47k. So even the top trim Civic is well under the average price of a new vehicle these days.
Hope Honda puts a 50 kW engine on the rear axle.
hey zack bestie how are ya tommy well done
Im surprised the black guy speaking nihonggo
I want a Sport in Lagoon Blue with those wheels. Not a fan of all the extras in the Sport Touring trim.
I think I'm totally sold on Honda's new Civic Hybrid tech, however I would want to see engine coolant and oil temp, as well as high-voltage battery coolant temp. All the cellphone and connectivity crap, not so much. I sat in Honda's Sport Touring leather seats and they're really comfortable. I'm usually a fabric seats for life kinda guy but I'm divided now.
Ce n’est pas la Honda 2025 le nouveau cockpit
Is it better driving than the accord hybrid or Camry hybrid?
It feels like the new tire has a crack around the circumference or such a defect that the tread will soon fall off in pieces. When will marketers finally realize that many people hate large diameter rims, despite their appearance? I won't buy this car because I don't need 18" wheels. I'll stay with my 2022 Insight EX until they offer the same 16" wheels that are more comfortable and economical (55 MPG). I hate leatherette seats, sunroofs and big wheels, but they keep asking me to pay for it.
Screen looks cheap and poorly done. Missing remote start with device I’m sure they left that out. Yet confusing how it gets a full digital gauge but the CR-V gets a cheapy looking half digital that’s poorly done. Honda just struggling to make a good looking car these days with available tech and comfort. And the fact they still overpricing their products is a joke.
You are in Montreal! Welcome to my part of the world! And the world famous pothole lol. It's not just in Montreal, the whole state is like that. You really have to be careful, sometime they are pretty deep and can easily take out your tires and bend/crack you wheels..
Just to be sure the novelty here is that they introduced this powertrain into the Civic, right ?? Because we've had Accord hybrid for the past ten years and it's been making the same 200ish hp peak combined (170hp at the wheels). It seems more exciting to look at Camry hybrid since they use 2.5L 180hp to make combined ~230 hp.
That’s an accord 😂 you can’t fool me Honda
great review
Love that you had the interview with one of the developers. Learning more about the hybrid system from him was awesome! Great questions you had for him. Thank you for the review!
Wow, sometimes I envy your job, but having to go to Montreal for this reveal was quite the punishment! Honda must really dislike you. Is the PR person worked at Subaru before?
Having driven a recent model gas powered Corolla and Civic, they aren’t really equivalent cars. While they are both labeled compact, the Corolla is a true compact. The Civic is more midsized-particularly in the rear seat area.
Kinda weird the LX and Sport didn’t get the 1.5T, and the EX was dropped. Not everyone wants a hybrid. Now there’s no non-hybrid premium trim. And no spare tire?
This hybrid Civic is new in US right? In Europe it has been some years now. The ride is a step up compared to Corolla and Fit (Yaris) hybrid. 😎
You review people all have the same talking points.
Did you get the "say this" memo? Especially "more torque than the SI" line..uff
Funny to see Tommy drive in my home town!! I saw te cars lined up downtown Montreal last Wednesday, waiting to be lent out I guess… Good looking car bigger than the old Accords… Don’t see the point of the Accord anymore!
I think toyotas are usually sold above msrp more often than hondas, which makes the civic hybrid not that much expensive than the equivalent corolla
Does the Canadian model have heated steering wheel?
Interesting what the man said when asked about maintenance of the clutch system. He said it would need maintenance but wasn't specific. Honda says no maintenance. The reality is that the Toyota ecvt is more reliable. Clutch will wear out eventually. Having said that the drive in the Honda is better.
No manual and it looks more vanilla than a Buick.
I think 23mpg is just awful.
Sounds like Honda nailed it.
I can release the prices for these things but I won’t. Because ya’ll should wait just like everyone else :)
Cheers
What about working in -40 whither?
Why does Honda hate rear seat passengers so much? They really need to get the area rear of the B pillar up to par. Is a pocket on the back of the driver's seat that hard to apply? And no air vents or USB outlets, especially at this price point? Come on man!!
I agree!
Same on the Toyota Prius. Can they not imagine that maybe someone over 5' 8" might want to sit in the back seat?
still disapointed they dropped the coupe
Does currenct Accord have a different power train compared to civic? That engineer gentleman kind of confused me when he mentioned that he's in a civic and integra development team.
Montreal terrible roads 😂 very true
I have a lead foot in my 2019 Ioniq Hybrid and still fill up only twice a month I’m in La area
Was looking at new Accord ..but this is cheaper and quicker and better looking
I wouldn't mind having one of these but right now we are in need of something a bit bigger for all the trips we have planned over the next five years with our kids. This would be a good second vehicle to have.
