Hi EB from Wyoming. I’m glad you liked the video. I was happy to do the repair for about $10.00. The Tecumseh starters for these snow blowers are well made and sturdy. The button is the weak point. I have repaired a couple for friends with the exact same problem. Thanks for viewing and posting a comment. Roger
@@repairitdontwreckit4257 I have been very curious on this subject since my Ariens ST824LE starter began getting a bit buggy (sometimes works fine, other times no connection). The switch was my #1 suspect and your video gave me great insights!
@ Go through a checklist. Start with the extension cord you are using. I’ve seen older cords not work in certain positions as the wires are broken inside the insulation and will make contact when in the correct position, especially if one has been repaired with a replacement plug. I’ve found the switch itself should have a decent clicking sound and have a good feel to it. Next remove the starter. Check the wire to the starter to see if there is any signs of damage or wear. You can wire the starter directly to power to see if it’s the starter, switch or wiring. Just make sure the starter is rated for 120 volts ac. If you’re not comfortable with electricity don’t do this test. Make sure the gear on the starter is free to move up and down. You could lubricate this area. There are different opinions here. A too heavy lubricant may cause more problems when it gets really cold. It may be too thick in colder temperatures and not let the gear move freely. I hope this helps with your diagnostics. Thanks for watching and posting. Roger
Hi sweetlou. Yes a lot of things you can’t get into or take apart. It seems a shame that we have to throw out of things these days when the fix is quite simple for a small amount of money. I find it very satisfying to repair stuff that usually gets tossed . Thanks for watching and posting comments . Roger.
i figured thats what was wrong with mine. of course the failure is found when I need to clear 12 inches of snow this morning. I smacked the switch housing and it started running but actually got stuck on, and I hit it again and it wouldn't start anymore. first start of the season didn't want to start with the pull start, probably time for a new carb. I wonder if even the switch itself could be broken into and cleaned and lubricated. those switches aren't complicated!
W@WCGwkf. The switch works when you press the button it supplies power to the starter when closed. When you release the button after the engine starts the power is interrupted. I don’t think taking the switch apart will help but worth a try as it is not working anymore. The power to the switch is 120 volts ac. You need to be careful. The cost of a new switch is not to bad. If you’re waiting for parts you could hot wire it to start the blower. Again it’s 120 volts. Unless you know what you’re doing order the correct part. If you can get the blower into a warm area you have a good chance to start it with the pull start. Make sure the spark plug is in good shape and the choke is functioning. The carb may need cleaning. If it’s been sitting around with old fuel it’s probably part of the hard starting. Worth a try. I have had good luck with the after market carbs on Amazon. Thanks for watching and posting. Roger

Great video, I like trying to repair everything, they do make things so hard to get into!
