    I can't thank you enough. I was looking for a replacement starter motor when I came across your video. My problem was when I pushed the start button there was no click no nothing. I followed the link you posted and ordered the part. It was an exact match so I followed your instructions and wallah it worked like a charm. Again, thank you so much for taking the time to post this video.

    I wonder if this is what happened to my starter on my Tecumseh. Worked great until it no longer responded. Fortunately it's a one-pull start since I cleaned it all up a few years ago (I credit new head gasket and Hylomar with its great performance) so it hasn't bothered me much. I'll tear it down soon and see if this is the issue!
    Sounds like a lot of money for a switch, maybe they have something equivalent I can throw in my next Digikey order

    Hey Ken I have an old MTD snow blower with a Tecumseh. In the middle of blowing I ran out of gas so I used my gas/oil mixture from my new Stihl hedge trimmer (50:1). It worked but I was wondering if that will harm a small engine or perhaps the carburetor? Or what other effect can it have. Thanks!

    I have a husqvarna snowblower and II literally used this starter 2 times when it broke! What happened to me is when I was trying to unplug my extension cord from it, it was hard to remove and it ended up causing the plug housing to crack. I took it and the starter off thinking I might be able to glue it and the plastic housing was disintegrating in my hands. Pure garbage. I removed the housing altogether and taped up the switch and plug and installed it back on the machine. Why can’t companies make stuff better? The housing should be metal, not plastic! We have governments that preach about saving the environment and we have companies that produce garbage these days for repeat profit. And it carries over to household appliances, etc. The real truth is that gov loves this as it forces people to go buy new tools/appliances and replacement parts bringing them in more tax revenue. What a corrupt system we live in that so many people are blind to!

    Ken this very is goo an all, but you should explain which terminal contacts go to which wires. As in, the straight contact is connected to the wire that goes to the stater, or vice versa. you just pointed to what was being replaced, and then replaced the switch without anyone being able to see which connecting wires went with which terminals. Just saying. I have a troy built, and it was completely missing the switch, I can get a switch for it, but I have no idea which wires to connect the terminal to.

    Any fix for the outlet box if the ground prong breaks?

    • @KensSmallEngineRepair
      @KensSmallEngineRepair  3 года назад +1

      It can be repaired. Go to the Home Depot or hardware store and get a 3 piece plug. Uncrimp the broken one and take the one from the plug and install it. You can crimp or solder it. Most people break off the ground tab because their extension cords are only 2 prong ungrounded. I recommend using the right grounded cord.

    • @KensSmallEngineRepair
      @KensSmallEngineRepair  11 месяцев назад +1

      Do you have a multimeter to check what output you’re getting from the switch?

    • @markiejames7911
      @markiejames7911 11 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, what am I looking at getting from the meter reading?

    • @KensSmallEngineRepair
      @KensSmallEngineRepair  11 месяцев назад +1

      @@markiejames7911 you want to make sure the switch is working number one but you also want to make sure that you’re getting 110 V to the starter so I would cut some of the insulation a few inches from the starter and pierce the neutral and hot wires, white and black respectively, to see if you’re getting 110 Volts AC when you hit the switch when it’s plugged in. If you are then it’s the starter. Keep in mind whenever you pierce insulation you’re gonna have to seal it up with either liquid or standard electrical tape so the wires don’t oxidize.

    • @KensSmallEngineRepair
      @KensSmallEngineRepair  3 года назад

      If you are ok with working safely with 110volts safely, you can take the switch housing apart and jump the wires for the switch momentarily to see if it turns. If so it’s a bad switch. If not you could have a bad winding in the starter or a bad solenoid if there is one on the starter.
