Oh what a fabulous look back to the prime of my life; the year I left college. What a marvellous trip of nostalgia! The suits, haircuts, ties, vehicles and of course rolling stock liveries. Thoroughly enjoyed this. Gut-wrenching to realise that, with all this investment, reorganisation and optimism, it was all over just a few years later. What a loss of a national asset. Nothing to have replaced it either. One giant step back for the UK ... again.

Remember this , was a brilliant idea . Why can they not use spare space on trains today to carry Amazon parcels today instead of using polluting lorries. Only problem today modern trains do not have a guards van compartment.

Agreed. Unfortunately all you’d see is a locked off 20 seat compartment with one parcel sitting in it on a packed commuter carriage. Then the platform whistle blower would have to collect, delaying the train. It’s incomparable to what Amazon, DPD and Royal Mail offer in todays world.

I think this looks to be making a comeback, old 321 and 319 units are being converted to carry overnight parcels and honestly I think that is a brilliant idea. Parcels by rail to stations in towns then being delivered by BEV Vans is the future we should be moving to and is ironically the future that Red Star predicted.

It was good whilst it lasted done red star work at lime St and Oxford in the mid to late 80s..was nothing else like it at the time..customers where happy to trudge to local large station talk to grumpy br staff and watch as the fragile sticker was placed on packet! And we all know fragile is Latin for kick hear!....lhappy days

Well whatever they tried all that Thatcherite talk didn't work it got given to Lynx, presumably at a fraction of it's value, and a year or two later Lynx shut it down.

I enjoyed my time in Red Star parcels. I well remember the PBM computer being foisted on an older generation of clerks some of whom found computers baffling. I thought the PBM system (seem but not mentioned in this film) was excellent and easy to use. Many happy memories bought back for me here (apart from the management BS). It was a shame it came to an end!
