At least that was the ideal of it.
When that German covered that guys mouth as he plunged his knife in him and all you hear is a muffled scream, my stomach actually turned bro. Brutal scene but I rewatch it again and again
When you see WWI weapons you see how quickly it devolved into medieval-styled combat. Knives, sharpened shovels, makeshift maces made out of wood and machine parts. It was truly brutal
This is how I imagine how fights in Dune go down. Two sides facing off. Rather than mutually assured destruction if a Lasgun hits a shield. They put down their guns and take out the knives
Tolkien might not have wanted to admit it but the battlefields of Europe influenced Mordor and the dead marches. He knew more about war and life as a solider than Martin ever will.
more often than not that did happen, in the early phase of the war. Basically the Germans realized super quick our lads are a tad bit soft and just are coming back with the amount of ammo they went out with so they took up training the types of lads you see in the video above. Stormtroopers right vicious chaps who were trained specifically to go out grenade trenches and hop in and finish guys off with knives and clubs to do that they had to be hard men indeed. Brits and French just did it with veterans German trench raiders though were trained from day one to be comfortable with killing in melee.
normally that did happen, but in the story theyre both after a english spy who got injured in no mans land (i.e both had the same goal so no choice but to fight)
@@legalosmumakilslayer That’s not ACCURATE I hate to be that prick, but German StoßTrüppen (storm troops) were not trained from day 1 to do trench raids because regular German troops were ‘a tad soft’ Storm troopers were handpicked from veterans already serving, and then were sent to specialist training school for 2 months to learn raid and infiltration tactics. And I wouldn’t say the Germans were soft, they held off and inflicted higher casualties than they received against British, French, Australian, Canadian, New Zealand and Indian troops on just one of their fronts, while also beating back the Russians in the east and even sending troops to face the Italians, and THEN it still took the yanks to finally crack the German army. They were beaten by huge odds not better skill
Obviouslt every man there looked capable of combat on the German side and the English officer, but man... Theres something about that guy that pulls out the shortened sledgehammer. That is terrifying.
The mask part is only for the visual affects when in reality no one would disadvantage themselves by wearing a gas mask when your opponent is breathing freely. Looks cool for the movie and “scary German” but in reality you’d have to be an idiot.
Fair enough Ig. I think these Germans were trench raiders so it makes a little more sense that they would already be using gas masks, with the gas grenades and all. It could also be used simply for intimidation, considering the skulls also painted on their helmets

This scene is exemplary. You feel every single motion, every vibration in the setting. Everything comes to life. Rotten Tomatoes did not do this film justice.

The gauntlet dagger looks so scary
I could make a video essay on why this is a perfect action scene.
- Great concept
- Clear stakes, objective
- Character building
- Active, emotional decisions
- Kinetic camerawork (Brad Allan, 2nd Unit Director)
- Unique animalistic choreography (Chris Cowan, Action Designer)
- Clear geography
- Variety of weaponry/combat styles (Jon Baker, armorer)
- Great setting
- Great costuming (Michele Clapton, designer)
- Great sound design

Fun fact did you know that in kings man the German soldier with a knife sticking into a fighting boxing glove it was called the “gauntlet dagger” a trench melee weapon that was terrifying to use in ww1.
I thought it wasn’t very wide-spread in Germany at that time, mostly French and British soldiers used it
@@jan_dr18 it was called the anglo-french gauntlet, and yeah. but its not unbelievable that a german stormtrooper might have had access to prototypes since their was a lot of experimental tactics and weapons being developed for them to try and re-establish maneuver warfare on the western front.
So what a soldier would think they about to brawl and the German would just surprise stab them through their glove ?
This is a masterclass of film making. What a great scene.

this scene left me utterly speechless and constant chills in the cinema. top notch action and intensity.
i love it's a total contrast from every other fight scene in the kingsman series. They don't have bombastic and revelatory music. It's only fear and dread
This whole movie makes me want to play battlefield one again
one of my favorite scenes in the movie, it kept me glued to the screen throughout the entire fight so brutal!
I love the smaller details in this scene. Like if you look close enough, you can notice skulls and other insignias painted on the German helmets. So cool
Their Stromtroopers
I thought this was such a crazy good idea for a fight scene. Trying to kill your enemy while also trying to be quiet really ups the stakes and put me on the edge of my seat

The music builds up with every kill its amazing
0:34 Gauntlet dagger armed by a German soldier to the far left
0:58 German from the left delivers a possible killing stab
0:59 German to his left launches himself, possibly killing the British soldier opposite to him
1:01 Main character starts fighting his opponent
1:09 A shot of the British officer and (maybe) the German officer fighting

1:18 Armoured German snaps a British soldier's shin
1:19 Same people but the British soldier now has a rearranged face
1:21 Another British soldier dies
1:32 2 Germans (possibly the ones on the left side of the opening shot) are stabbing another British soldier
1:49 Main character kills the German he started fighting in 1:01
1:59 Main character dodges a swing, then stabs the German from 0:34 in the arm, and then throws him
2:02 German who swung his knife gets tripped over, accidentally stabs Gauntlet german from 0:34
2:09 The german who tripped over gets sliced in the neck by the Main character
2:16 The Armoured german brings his hammer down (somehow the man whose leg broke had his scream ignored?)
2:23 Armoured german takes the Main character off his grasp
2:40 British officer shoots armoured geman and (possibly) the German officer. We have 2 candidates who could actually be the officer
Notes:
There was a german soldier spotted with a club, or a mace. However, I cannot see when or where said weapon was used later
I’m pretty sure that the British soldier at 1:18, 1:19, and 1:21 are the same person
@@sunnex474 possibly, but you'll have to note the following
1. You wouldn't dual wield a hammer and gauntlet dagger
2. You wouldn't pick up a dead man to stab him again
3. The guy in 1:21 still has a recognisable human face with no visible damage
He was killed by the officer with the hatchet.
correction: the main character did not stab the german soldier from 0:34 in the arm at 1:59. instead, he broke his arm, apparent by the fact that i spotted the knife not sticking out of the german soldier's arm.
That fact that you carefully analyze what happen in this darken fight shows how the human eye can see things even without night vision
most brutal scene I've come across from war movie!! Great actors!! great filmed!!
This was my favorite, you know a war scene is good when it’s gets you bloodthirsty
best scene in the movie for me and one of my favorite movie fights in recent memory
I don’t think people understand how cruel and nasty knife fights can be
Small details, the guy who saves him at the end of the scene holds the dead German body up as a shield from the friendly fire, he did this on purpose because he didn't want to get killed by his own side.
That German war armor was scary af

@@gibby9919 I am collecting WWI (and WWII ) equipment and close combat daggers and with my 59 years I have seen many documentations about the two wars and read many books and articles. But this movie is like James Bond. It has to be entertaining (and that`s what it is :-) instead of being realsitic, just a few examples....:
1 boy kills 2 germans at the same time. not toooooo realistic.
NOBODY would wear a gasmak without gas around... in a close combat fight AND DURING NIGHT! With a gasmask you have a limited field of view, even without fighting and even during daylight.
The armdagger of the german soldier wasn´t used in WWI. Just a few prototypes existed for experimental tests.
If you have a machinepistol MP18, you use it (instead of getting killed) You lay down and shoot. No machingun fire gets you, but the enemy .

Bro brings a sledgehammer to the stealth fight 😂
When the CoD lobby is full of melee guys
The Germans may have lost the battle but the definitely won the Badass fashion Battle
On a lighter note, I'm surprised both factions didn't silently agree to turn back and pretend they didn't see anything 😂
more often than not that did happen, in the early phase of the war.
@@legalosmumakilslayer
That’s not ACCURATE I hate to be that prick, but German StoßTrüppen (storm troops) were not trained from day 1 to do trench raids because regular German troops were ‘a tad soft’
Storm troopers were handpicked from veterans already serving, and then were sent to specialist training school for 2 months to learn raid and infiltration tactics.
0:34 I dont know why. but the German soldier with the gauntlet dagger kinda looks like the character from spongebob, the hash-slinging slasher lol
I didn't really like the movie but this scene was incredible
Incredible scene
Fun fact, the German soldier saying bitter was repeatedly saying please in a way that denotes desperation.
Obviouslt every man there looked capable of combat on the German side and the English officer, but man... Theres something about that guy that pulls out the shortened sledgehammer. That is terrifying.
If you've ever played battlefield 1, it's so crazy how similar and accurate it is. The guns, the trench raider, etc
Battlefield 1 invented World War 1
Truly gentlemen, resolving their dispute and an honorable way. Hat off.
I have no clue what this movie is, The King's Man. But this fight scene feels almost animated at points, like a game cutscene.
The movement feels good to watch~.
Ik it’s just a movie. But what it must have taken for the men of that generation to go out time and time again in the face of certain death is almost incomprehensible.

I love how this is a callback to the knife training scene where the girl tells Chola that learning knife fighting was pointless in a world with guns, proves her wrong 😂
Very accurate. As far as how’d it turn out. You have the German squad who clearly came with the best hand to hand guys they had who were properly equipped to do so at a moments notice going against the allied squad who really were just picked randomly. None of them had much experience in hand to hand and it shows other than the officer who came prepared
Good observation and makes sense as to why the Germans were dominant.
@@TheMainMayn it was pretty obvious that was the Germans “kill squad” if you will. Every one of them brought some sort of hand to hand weapon that would give them an advantage over just basic knife. This is the kind of scene that should've been in All Quiet On The Western Front film that came out recently.
No, because compared to this All quiet is a way more brilliant movie because it doesn't have scenes like this.
The gas masks ruined it for me. No way they’d have worn them in a night raid without any need, if gas would have been used shortly before… the Scottish soldiers would have been using gas masks too.
I think the exact opposite the blank expression of yhe gas mask adds to the suspense and slight terror
I don't think there were many cinematic melee battles in the actual WW1, it just looks cool
Their uniforms are all mix-matched to create different archetypes for the fight. If only the gasmasks look out of place to you then you aren’t as clever as you wanted to sound
Its a movie, they need to add things for certain dramatic intentions
Gas masks were used as a method of phycological warfare and notice how only the stormtroopers we're wearing them.
People back then feared these guys
Even though the stormtroopers we're a form of fear propaganda
