I often get asked, " do dehumidifiers kill mold?" The simple answer is no it does not but it can absolutely prevent mold. If you have a flood in your home, dehumidifiers along with air movers can dry an area out and prevent a mold problem. In this video, I will show you how to dry out a wall using a dehumidifier. While not perfect, it does the trick. Does it mean it killed all the mold in the wall. No, it does not. Testing would then need to be done after the area is dried out.

*humiditer We liked it **Fastly.Cool** so much in the basement, we bought a second one for the main level. The amount of moisture it pulls out of the air is astonishing.*
They don’t kill mould directly, but by reducing the humidity and water content in the air and room, will indirectly kill mould. But you need a strong dehumidifier and need to run it almost daily.
Good video!
The sheer honesty and transparency earns my subscribe. Love the fact that the video starts with the answer. 💪🏽❤️
Thank you for this brief but very direct explanation. I was looking for a solution right now as my bedroom/home office smells moldy as it is rainy here and had to to check if what dehumidifier I need or if the built-in dehumidifier of my HVAC system does work... thanks again 👍
My original intention for this humidifier was to use it for plants that require high moisture levels. After using it in my room, ruclips.net/user/postUgkxtD9aJ2m6GU-X1IChQxjn9l31K1A7Kpwj however, I think that's where it is going to stay in the fall and winter season at least. The increased humidity in my room made the room warmer and more comfortable. I had first ran the humidifier for 4 hours with the timer setting for it. After the first hour, I checked my room and can feel the difference. When the full 4 hours was up, I checked again and noticed that the humidifier was shut off as it is suppose to. The moisture level never seem to get passed 56/57%. I then let it run until all the water is used up, which it wasn't all used up. There are still some left in the base that you are not suppose to add water to. I filled up the water tank all the way again, being careful when removing it from the base. Some left over water may spill out. After putting it back on and setting the unit to auto, I let it operate. It didn't stop running, rather I don't know if it did at any point since I didn't check it regularly, for 24 hours after which the water in the tank ran out. The moisture reading never passed 56/57%, which may be a good thing for me. Being situated right next to my bed, the noise was not very noticeable with the occasional water gurgle from time to time as the unit ran.
you're killing yourself!!! Get rid of the humidifier. Get a De-humidifier.
Very helpful video simple quick and easy! Thank you for the demonstration too 👍🏽💯
During the winter with central heating and drying clothes inside then using a dehumidifier will help stop mould from growing
@jambiann tneru not sure I always just use a mould killing spray. Then an inhibitor afterwards. But every winter it will come back as the humidity gets so high. A dehumidifier reduces the humidity enough to keep it at bay.
Where do you live that humidity is higher in the winter? Usually things get dryer, when you're in cold weather and are running the furnace.
@wasaglass I live in the uk our winters are very wet. it comes from drying washing on radiators indoors mainly. Then baths, showers and cooking also adds to the amount of moisture.
@youkidandthat1205 my house is very old and North facing. Don't you just love the rain! ( I don't dry stuff indoors, so god knows what it would be like if I did)
Great info. As a roofing contractor, I go into a lot of homes with mold infestation...because the owners did not take action when they should have. Here in Austin we have high humidity and everyone has an ac unit that does not run 24-7 - which probably caused mold in ducts. Have you had success with Concrobium or the higher strength vinegar?
Thank you in advance.
I would have thought that you would have given numbers for what your room numbers should be, or guidelines for us to stay between. Penney C
Fantastic video mate. Could u please tell me if there is a device that can show drift / moisture coming in through window seals or around it? Is there a fool proof way to know?
One those dehumidifier was an GE 50 pints ?
Thank you, I live in the Marshall Islands. Seems I need to order one
What is that meter called? Can anyone get one?
Approximate how much does a reliable water detector cost? Thank you.
…before I finish watching this, is the free gift a dehumidifier?
My neighbors upstars flooded my apartment through the bathroom and maintenance just put a dehumidifier in the kitchen😤but the neighbors have been clogging their toilet for like 3 years now!!😤
Does dehumidifier kill in door plant?
Use a fan as well to dry out the wall
What was the name of that commercial dehumidifier?
If you buy dehumifier with HEPA filter, it will capture mold and other harmful particles. Ozoning room is also option after drying to destroy mold. Basiclly you need to have humidity lower than 60%, then windows and walls have to have good enough heat isolation to not cause condensation on walls and windows. Thin isolated windows will get condensate when colder weather outside will be present. Overtime mold will grow arround windows damp, wet areas.
Also. Why we should thumbs up your video before watching?
Why would I hit the thumbs up button BEFORE I watch the video??
Exactly what I said out loud
I said the same thing 😂😂😂
is it normal for the dehumidifiers to get black mold inside them quickly? we just ordered one and it has mold in the water can and its less than 2 weeks old. should i be concerned?
Yes. I would suspect that you already have a mold issue going on, and the dehumidifier has been pulling spores through it, which allowed mold to colonize inside it
I am living in Dominican republic next to the ocean and the salty water is killing my laptop, I am also learning programming would a dehumidifier help? Thank you - subscribed. 🙂
yes,the salty water is probably just corroding everything which is a separate issue. I don't think a dehumidifier is going to be your solution here
A dehumidifier will not help you learn programming. You’re welcome.
For electric components try to keep it below 50% humidity at best. Below 40 is best
Can you recommend some good dehumidifiers that I don’t need to dump water as often?
Here's the straight truth -
There is pretty much three ways of reducing how often you need to empty the water.
1. By reducing the amount of water you're pulling from the air.
2. Increasing the size of the tank.
3. Using a drain hose.
So either you make the thing less effective, make it bulkier and heavier, or introduce a tripping hazard. There is no way to remove the same amount of water from the air while collecting less water from it.
What do you mean you should put a hole in the wall?
What is the wattage of ur dehumidifier? It came down from 40 to 35% in 3 days? Your initial video showed 40%!!
Dont ACs act as dehumidifiers?
Also what is the point of a one time commercial dehumidifier treatment if the humidity comes back?
Cause they cheaper
It seems it's for flooding repair when it's a one time hit of water. Basically to dry up a big spill that's soaked the place one time, but the fluid won't be come back in.
TCL makes a more effiecient and half cost one that size.
Only downside is 50 Litres instead of 70 but thats no big problem.

dehumifiers only subtract water from air
Exactly but by doing this they remove the ideal conditions for mould to grow.
No, if there is already mold it can destroy it but very difficulty, you should spray the mold with bleach and wipe off and then get the dehumidifier. If there isnt mould yet then get one because mold forms from gumid air
Bleach doesn’t kill mould, it just bleached the mould colour
Its almost impossible to get 0% relative humidity, you are alright with 40 - 60% RH..
Do dehumifers kill mold already there or stop new mold spores appearing
@p jon will the dehumifers stop the current mold I have from growing
@p jon I use scented dehumifers and kingfisher dehumifers and mini moisture traps and wardrobe dehumifers do they get rid of the mold smell also there is a video that has damp trap trick using table salt when Crystal's have run out in small dehumifers is salt effective in getting rid of mold or not
@p jon u mean use mold sprays
@p jon I have mold sprays are dehumifers worth using and continuing using also when Crystal's have run out can I use refill Crystal's when Crystal's in dehumifers have run out
@Leah Watts hi dehumifers I have been collecting water in bottam of dehumifer does that mean they are working
So humidifiers cause or increase the chance of mold?
Well, yeah. So does leaving your windows open during rainy or high humidity days.
Increase
Let's see how much your energy bill when up

Bleach
You don't want it to be under 30%...too dry under 30...
