I know "Remission" is a brutal album but 2:27 it's so fucking beautiful
+Vitor Heerdt YES! so many beautiful moments through out mastodons music!
Hell yeah dude!
2:27 to the end is outright amazing. I still listen to this song at least 3 times a week, just for that.
Unga Bunga Dito
Sometimes I want the excellent riffs and well crafted lyrics
Sometimes I want pure brutal metal with epic solos
And mastodon delivers both
Really? You listen to a metal band because of lyrics? Thats like going to a stripclub for the music.
@@RegentDorn Dude metal has some of the best lyrics, dafuq you on about?
Earlier records for riffs, mid to new records for melody, riffs, vocals, everything else
@@RegentDorn😂😂😂
this is the first Mastodon song (and video) I ever heard/saw. Saw this back in the day on MTV's Headbangers Ball.
You mean MTV use to play music videos? Man that's weird.
yeah and now look at them stoner rock :(
Melissa derp What's we with it?
Same here!!!! Thank you for confirming my memory!!!
Loud also and Uranium with Julia
This band is the best thing that happened to the world of music in this century.
Mastodon is by far the best hard rock band of the 20th century. I hope they can get a number one album next, they definitely deserve it.
+Damian Paul A-fucking-men!!
maybe to stoner rock but they left the best parts behind them now
shaddup. They have gotten better bitch boy
ECW Remembered Mastodon is Heavy Metal not hard rock. They're too loud, agresssive and orchestral to be hard rock.
I remember reading a review of "Leviathan" somewhere. The reviewer said: "If Brann would be an action figure, he'd be wielding twin uzi's and a bazooka."
Damn, is it possible to like both new and old Mastodon?
Yes. Very easy, actually.
If that is the way you think, then you are not a real Fan of Mastodon my friend.
I have been listening to them and enjoying their music for over 10 years, have all of their albums and have tickets to see them next week. Is being a "real fan" insulting them based on some arbitrary holier-than-thou knee jerk reaction? If it is then no, I guess I'm not a real fan.
My comment was directed to the Mathew Leach original post. Not to you my man.
I'm seeing them tomorrow in Sayreville NJ. I have all of their albums as well and I love every one of them and I respect the progressive exploration of their sound. I can't wait to meet them in VIP.
Since when did they swap Brent for Dave Mustaine?
I love the transition from the soft melodic riff to that heavy riff after it
14 years ago 😨😨

@@BaiaoDe2LIBAD sucks
I got hooked to Mastodon fairly recently through their new album, but I must say that I love the fact that Mastodon has a song for every possible moment or "feeling". This song is amazing, Curl in The burl is miles away different and yet is amazing as well. This band is absolutely awesome!!!!
ahh yes curl of the burl Now don't know what this song could be about but I know what that song is about
I don't normally comment on Music Videos, but here is what I know about this song and the album it's on in general:
This is one of the heaveist songs I have heard in years. Nearly went deaf blasting this song with my headphones on while running a Tempo Run back on Monday.
The album name Remission apparently means to forgive.
The drummer Brann Dailor used Remission to help him cope with the aftermath of his sister's suicide. She took her own life when he was 15 (he was born in 1975, so it happened in 1990). I can only imagine the rage he had to withstand while making this album back in 2001-ish.
I almost forgot that I saw this group live back in 2013 during the Mayhem Festival. I did not know their music that much at that time. Now my current favorite song by Mastodon is either Blood and Thunder or The Czar.
please shut up
Why don’t you fuck off. I’ll say what I want to and there ain’t a damn thing you can do about it.
@@A7XfoREVerSTEVEn36 says the dumbass who doesn't know what 'remission' means
Right on dude
For some reason a few years ago this song was kinda too intense to me even though I listened to death metal and grindcore lol.
Sludge will do that to ya
This to date is the most intense album of all thanks to Brann and Troy. Tone is insane and the drumming keeps up with Brent and Bills one of a kind writing
News: report today the arrival of the fire ants in Italy
Me:
I fuckin love the intro riff.
The heaviest riff!!!
VEGAN ZUMEBIES doo dee lee de do doo bum bum bum
The chorus is just as amazing.
Hell yes the whole fucking song is as heavy as fuck \../
VEGAN ZUMEBIES The intro and harmonized guitar melody are iconic af
This is THE song that gave me interest on this band ! Brutal, deep, dark and... so beautiful (the instrumental part is wow !)
My introduction to these guys
My favorite Mastodon album be this one here.
Misha Lee nice to see another fellow black female metal head...
we are rare but extremely awesome because we are
Misha Lee I Agree..
03:17 the first time i heard this, i knew my life will never be the same again
240p ... brutal.
"Official Music Video". WTF Relapse Records?
This was 2007, man xD
RanDieBam dude this was 2002
I know there are much heavier bands, but Mastodon are the heaviest one I've been to see live.
2023 and this still head bangs!!! I miss head bangers ball on MTV!
Mastodon for years has been just a name to me. I knew they where supposed to be pretty good but up till now never listened to them.
Discovering this band has made me fall in love with metal all over again.
Here we have a band that was formed during the "Stone Age" and is still having a successful career
I think what makes the guitar interlude so sweet are the intense drums behind it.
The song is written from the darkest, most depressed and hopeless place imaginable
"as passion encircles the daily storm
the heart bleeds and droughts do not"
Through the chaos and darkness of what the individual perceives to be life, he still has a passion and an ambition.
But no matter how hard he tries and how passionate he is, he gets nothing in return and reality doesn't reciprocate. A drought of reward and feelings of success
"bone grave
bone engraved
stone grave
stone engraved"
Bone grave: I'm dead inside
Bone engraved: I'm destined for failure and mediocrity, it's the fate carved into my bones
Stone grave: After my drought and failure I'll die
Stone engraved: I'll be remembered as a failure, it'll be on my tombstone
"all circles created with intention"
I'm fairly certain one of the boys had a bad acid trip when writing this song
This at once alludes to cycles, and the cyclical nature of the individuals perceived failure, as well as his perception that a higher power or nature itself designated despair and failure as hit fate. As if it was designed that way
"an ocean turns yellow it soothes the eye"
An ocean turning yellow isn't an allusion to how pissy life is. Water turns yellow when sand is very close to the surface of the water.
The allegory being that the ocean is life
He perceives life as extremely shallow and simple. There's nothing else to life, he's figured it out. It soothes the minds eye that he doesn't need to search for further complexity
Very. Dark. Shit
I think it's about ants.
Alamo Jack PLEASE, GET YA BLACK EYELINER AND IN YOU'RE BLACK ROOM, study the Art of War,then go to a desert
Alamo Jack deep af
I think its about life/death on the open sea. Kinda foreshadowing Leviathan.
An ocean turn yellow means life is pissy because of the pee also
saw this song in suggested videos and i thought a song named march of the fire ants simply cannot be bad. and i was not dissapointed. fucking rad shit right there
I saw these guys when they opened for Slayer and Slipknot and they totally blew them off the stage. Mastodon pretty much gave them a lesson in flattening an entire crowd with out breaking much of a sweat.
Vikingcore. Mastadon are brutes, so much epicness in one man's beard.
dailor's drumming is one of a kind!! i can really hear the jazz elements in there!!!
this is probably the most epic metal song in history or the most "manly"
Saw this on Headbanger's Ball almost a decade ago and instantly became a fan :)
I remember watching this video on tv all theese years ago and was hooked right away, also was my first concert as they opened for Slipknot in 04.. good times!
this video needs some twerking
dekapitatorr watch the high road video :P
Jacob Brede motherload but close enough
hell yes it does!
This video needs a nose cult and a grim reaper who sucks at his job
@@jacobbrede7097 that’s obviously the joke they were making
Thank God for this band. Really original and complex without getting muddy or tiresome. A+
so much better then there latest stuff
Still in awe of Brann's drumming skills. Makes it look easy
Melodic interlude = amazing.
That massive intro riff is unstoppable so epic heavy as hell. When I first heard this. I was like was bolt thrower back with a new album. Drop a tunning rocks hard. Nope it was this new and exciting band.
Even 2021 it is even better then when I heard for the first time in 2015.
Mastodon are truly legendary
This was the first Mastodon song I ever heard and after that I couldn't really get the same feeling out of anything else they'd ever done. But then all of a sudden I started to really enjoy the variety of material they offer and am planning on picking up a few of their albums.
The melodic riff at 2:28 never fails to make my hairs stand on end.
Dailor's drumming is what really carries this song. Simply put, Brann makes every Mastodon song awesome. I love the bridge in this.
This song is so damn monstrous!! I'm more of a guitar guy but this drummer is nuts. \m/
this song is the reason I am an Unearthly Trance fan now
Man, I wish they still made albums with this much power.
I miss this Mastodon
Same. lol thought i was alone. I do like their new stuff though lol
To be 100% honest some of "the hunter" was great imo. Crack the skye was awesome to me also. But further back just shits on all that stuff. I love it when people are nice on youtube. Fuck yeah.
I do enjoy The Hunter a lot, even if it is simpler. I think they are in a good place between smooth, catchy songwriting, and their complex, powerful roots. Looking forward to Once More 'Round the Sun!!
CloneCommando501st
its all amazing IMO. i think they just shifted the complexity from riffs to lead and vocals in later albums.
*****
I didnt think The Hunter was filth, but High Road is easily their "pop-iest" song to date. Not sure what you heard.
yepp, I remember reading a Mastodon album review somewhere. The reviewer said: "if Brann would be an action figure, he'd be weilding twin-uzi's and a bazooka."
I never liked Mastodon, but I saw them live a few days ago, because they were playing at Maquinaria Festival, and I was blown away by this song. Now I'm starting to like'em
This song brings back so many amazing memories. Life was nice as a little metal kid
I honestly don't care for the lyrics, the screams from Brent Hinds are the instrument, this song is epic.
First, New mastodon kicks as much ass as old. Understand that bands dont need to make the same fucking sound over and over again!
But this song... still a great showcloser
Still though, the old stuff is like pure metal genius compared to the new. I like a lot of kinds of music n im not saying they gotta do the same shit over again. But the level of like unique their early work had is like, unique lol
the new stuff is interesting but kinda lackluster, its just not as transcendental
Does Arthur Sullivan kick ass? How about Louis Armstrong?
Both were musical geniuses who were and are more accessible to more people for a longer time than Mastodon can realistically hope for.
But one thing they did not do, do not do, and never will do, is kick ass.
And neither will Mastodon's new music.
fisharmor John Coltrane kicks the most ass , of any musician that has ever existed.
fisharmor Hey, you should make your trolling more obvious
This kind of thinking is far to rare a find here on youtube. Sadly everyone get's 20-40%(up for debate) more annoying on the internet and fans to great music are clearly not excluded in this.. In flames for example is a band who get's a LOT of flak from their so called fans these last couple of years for trying new things and experimenting.
Shame on all the so called fans for holding back the bands they love from developing.
THE BANDS ARE DEVELOPING AND GETTING NEW IDEAS. WHY CAN'T YOU THE FANS DO THE SAME!? :)

Saw them yesterday and they ended with this.
Best song of the night.
Remission is amazing, as all of their albums are, but it still stands as my favorite. it's pure brutal sludge.
Damn fireants, always pissing on my lawn
i absolutely love just about every mastodon guitar riff. always seem to be new and fun to play
Seeing this song live is as good an excuse as any to start a circle pit. Crushing. Brann on the kit, Troy's vocals, the guitar squeals and low end roar and on and on....
STILLLL ONE OF MY FAVS.
Mastodon don't give a fuck what people think ,there just gonna make what they want. Stop complain about sell outs blah blah blah, how is that kinda stuff productive in anyway? congrats on the pointless petty complaining guys
One of the most awesomeest songs ever! I go nuts everytime I hear the bad ass cadence march
Every time I listen to this song the opening Riff blows my mind, such a great band.
Good video quality!
ruclips.net/video/4U9aqNN9J4U/видео.html&feature=share
The part at 2:28 always gives me chills. I absolutely can not wait for 'Crack the Skye.' Mastodon are kings.
Did you like Crack the Skye?
Holy shit this is an old comment!
What did you think?
Still one of my favorites.
One of the best opening riffs...ever.
240p lets go =)
Literally the heaviest intro of any fucking song ever lol.
drum work still is amazing every single time i listen to it
one of the first real metal bands to make it to the mainstream in this century. and you don't see a lot of pop-star bashing on the comments, perhaps because many of us aren't caught up in that MTV culture.
i'll see them live with slipknot in Athens (30.6.2009)!!
it's gonna be great!!!
@2:30
these are some of the greatest riffs i heard
i am in love with this song!
I love the part when those guys start digging lol
Please rename this to "March of the Spicy Boys"
MASTODON=INNOVATION, the new real metal
i love the interlude
banda fodastica
What happened to this Mastodon?
actual mastodon is pretty nice
+Burbuja Sucia I just meant the heavy Mastodon with this raging music. It's a lot more weird than heavy now a days. Still good, but not like this.
Yeah, they have changed a lot since remission, I love those vocals from bill and troy on mother puncher and ol'e nessie. I think it will come some new brutal stuff on a new album. Anyway I prefer the crack the skye mastodon, it's mindblowing!
+Burbuja Sucia Definitely! Love that album. A great mix a weird and heavy. Very unique style
They got bored with being heavy all the time.
This is epic, has so much power behind it. Just gotta step back and look at how cool the song is.
Badass is what it is.
I like how Decibel magazine put their ad so close to the top that u can't close it out.
Brent should grow his hair back out, he looks fucking sweet
I don't think he can.
panteradeth whys that?
Lance Trullinger U serious, lets watch any video at live in 2014, he will be bald
Tomas Verdugo Muñoz we should get him to use bosley
Lance Trullinger Nah, I listen him how he play, not how he looks, anyway this time (remission) was his best look
Good song, but what do the lyrics have to do with ants?
Nothing. They write the titles based on what the music sounds like to them then write lyrics.
They write their songs based on what it sounds like, not the lyrics, if you understand what I mean.
MrCrazedmaniac mmmm Maybe like what it would sound like if fire ants where to march. I live in the south so lots of fire ants little sum bitches
got that right men....what he does with so much pieces is amazing
hah! Brent with long hair...
Kittycatadon
just saw them in beantown and they closed with this. they were so heavy. great set, 20 songs. Half of which from Emperor and Blood Mountain. sounded GREAT. We got the circle going during the first verse
Just pure class!!!!!!
my new favorite mastodon songs
This video reminded me why i loved mastodon ages ago
One of their best Songs!!!... I headbang that live @ Guatemala!
i will never understand the meaning of this video, but i love this song :D
Took me CTS too. But its cool this way cause now we get to look back and see what we missed, and miss out we did.
this is another great example of the reasons why I love this band.
I defy anyone to name a band out there as good as Mastodon! Its like every positive part of the best bands of all time loaded into one perfect group!!!
I listened to their whole discography I thought, how did I miss this killer record ?
