Lyrics:
If I stand around
And watch them drown in a pool of gray
When we dive in, I can surely say there's feud with force
Am I in your way?
Please knock me down, can I help you in?
When I'm not around let us all be found in certain ways
Dear Mr. Queequeg, you have been informed your life's been saved
You are not a black-hearted vicious mess so it has been claimed
If this is the beast
Pulling us towards the east with mighty waves
Let us look inside
And pull out all your pride, you know it's up to us
Holding pasts in ash black earth
Bound by roots
Roots into sand
Grow towards the giver
There's an open wound
Placed upon my heart, in anger's rage
If we open up a spirit, a spirit that can bleed
Ahab the leading lad we can trust his obsession carries them
Meet us at the temple
Healing all the crippled, don't forget the maimed
Lower soul
Sent with gifts offering
Teeth of hope travel with
Child laid next to mother
Love this video. Prior to "Leviathan," Metal really was lacking in the grandiose, maritime shadow puppet theatre department.
Lol, indeed t'was! 🤘⛵🐳⚓🤘
Whale-core
Agreed.
I couldn't agree more...
😂😂😂
I remember this being the thing back then. Right around the same time machine head was doing the same style of videos.
This is one of the best concept albums ever recorded. The subject of Moby Dick is an amazing story in itself. Mastadon breathed life into it.
Those guy inspired me to read this book ;]
Mastadon?
Brian Dailor’s drumming in this track is trully one of a kind. The guy is like “fuck rhythm machine duty, I’m riffing with the others”
Brann*
His drumming is smoking in every single fucking album, he s progressing even more with the new hits
the entire album is a drum solo, but specially in this song
I think even said as much , some years ago. "I had no idea I was supposed to be 'in synch' with the bass, I just wanted to play with the guitars!"
He does that in any song btw
I like how everyone says "Oh Brent is so awesome blah blah blah." He is amazing, don't get me wrong, but what about Bill? They're like KK and Glenn from Priest... Mastodon's guitar sound is because of the two of them, not just Brent.
That being said, the ending riff to this song is one of my all-time favorite riffs.
few know that bill creates most of mastodon' riffs. yes, he's the real riffmaster.
Bill and Brann are the brains, Troy's the multitool, and Brent is the eccentric. Bill is underrated and from what I understand his vocals are pretty good live. Wish they would implement him more to add to their already impressive arsenal.
BIIIIIIIIIIIIIILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!! NO SERIOUSLY BRENT!!!!!!!!!
Angus and Malcolm.
Ending riff is one of my favorite too..I recently just read lyrics after years of listening to and loving this song and it made the ending riff incredibly god 👍
That ending riff is killer, just awesome!
The end of this song sounds so amazing!
Their whole album, Leviathan, is incredible, since every song is some sort of sea faring tale.
Reminds me of watching Headbangers Ball late at night. Miss those days, plus I got totally obsessed with this song.
+phaniepack123 seeing this video on Headbanger's Ball on New Years was what introduced me to the band, I'll never forget seeing/hearing this for the first time
Every other riff in the history of metal should bow down to the riff at 3:31 and accept that they have been defeated.
Highly debatable
that riff is quite boring
#FACTS
sir I believe we have an accordance.
walk
The build up, the climb, the descent into riffage madness...
This is my first time listening to Mastodon.
I hope it wasn't your last. Crack the Skye is one of the best metal albums ever made, in my opinion.
You must be blessing the day when you played this video lol.
Tdrummer888
In my opinion as well. Best Mastodon album, and that's saying A LOT.
The mini groove section at the end when he does just like that one switch. Fuck, thats so good
The breakdown that ends this masterpiece is 100 percent the end riff boss. None has yet to compare.
the change at 3.33.....pure genius, never get sick of it! thanks for the experience.
one of the most unique bands i know
them and between the buried and me
and i love them both
Mastodon seems to have more odd lyrics
but odd in a good way
actually in an awesome way
My entire face just melted off. I literally have no face now.
Song that really got me into Mastodon. Never looked back since. Been to every NC concert since 2009
This is probably my favorite song on the album, which is probably a top 5 album ever for me. The song and the video just captures the whole strange raw vibe of the album. Mastodon does a great job at painting a visual for their albums. If that makes sense, or maybe im just stoned out of my mind. Either way... fuckin shred.
Am I the only one who solely relates this to Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack?
Suuurrrgerrryyyyyy
danaconda2 :would u like to buy my combs
he's a baroness fan
Thomas Nieman
What is baroness? :|
That one band who has the guitarist, Baizley, by which your picture was drawn. lol
that outro riff is so fucking brutal. god i love this band.
Definitely play that outro riff over and over again every time I listen to this song.
The ending riff freakin' kills me!
I just needed a fix of some MASTODON!!!
Sometimes I need a fix of REZ Love comes down or Military man.
Dude... 18 years!? I feel so old now... I used to hear this over and over my freshman year of college. Jesus!
can feel the Mercyful Fate/King Diamond influence
killer video too, always creative, they never disappoint
This band has gotten better over time - latest album is more musically advanced. I'm starting to warm up to these guys.
At first I didn't like Mastodon but now I have one thing to say now: what the fuck was wrong with me?
It was the same thing for me. I saw the video for Blood and Thunder when I was a teen, and loved that song. Bought the album and just found myself not really enjoying much else on it beyond that song. Now in my 30's, they're one of my favorite bands.
This song reminds me of all the times we have braved the sea. After our dreams.
I think I had read Moby Dick for the first time just a couple years before this album dropped. Hearing this album and seeing this video, when the story was still so fresh in my mind, has become a core memory of mine (both of classic American literature and of ‘00’s heavy metal).
Man, playing this song on guitar feels really good it satisfies my ears
Understand the vocals? He cleary said "Am I in your way" , Im sure of it :)
Rest is: djeesidjeesidusi, phan mekk mekk, sostaniveeeeei,
I still love em though, gonna see em this summer! Gonna be sweet!
That riff comes like a hit in the face
How is that not one of the top 5 metal songs ever? After every mastodon song, I feel like I've been though navy seal training and need a jug of gatorade. They are beastly and megolodonish!
Song length: 4:20
Coincidence?
+John Butch I don't think so.....just check out some other Mastodon videos, a lot of them are 4:20 mins long (or very close). Blood n Thunder, Birchmen, High Road for example ;D
listening to this high atm, it's pretty glorious
The song is timeless.
The video isn't so lucky.
Brann's bombastic drumming totally rules!
I must of listened to these motherfucking ads 5,000 times, but it's worth every second of Mastodon.
One of Mastodon's masterpiece, only for the open minded able to understand great music
I haven't played this on the fiddle since like 2007. Love that intro.
I love this video for the throwback to early filmmaking. Reminds me so much of the greats like Melies
I think the video captures the mythic idea behind the song. Reminds me a Medieval map full of pictures of sea beasts.
2019, still got it. But the audio is quite lame though.
It is 🥺 but this track goes HARDBODY. 👌😎
Good thing no one asked for y’all’s opinion. 👌👍
they uploaded a HD version - watch?v=RJrcRpqp4lc
Nothing about the awful video quality? Whatever man.
Whatever to you too 👍
That quality, though.
+Esteban Aguayo a throw back to an era (but ten years ago)when the top fastest ram was anywhere upwards of 2 gb's of ram. which was truly blazing fast for its time. and flash, xp and firefox reigned supreme. now there's linux mint, javascript, and mozilla.
Look at the year it was posted....
The ending of this song is just so brutally heavy when you contrast it with the beginning. Awesome.
amazing drum work!
Sound quality is a thing here on Earth, by the way
TheAmbientUniverse year posted. ..you should check it out.
TROY IS A GOD!!
Such an amazing album. Maybe the best of the 00's?
my favourite mastadon song. amazing.
Tool and Mastodon are the greatest bands to get high to
And the best bands in general. Tool being the best of course.
intro sounds like something Alice in Chains would have played
Yeah it does! Wouldn't be surprised if Cantrell was friends with them either...
Alice in chains 👍👍👍✌
Was thinking the same. The song progression has a very Cantrell-ish stamp esp the sudden riff change.
Been saying for years they have mad AIC influence
@@drgrimfist7437 they recently covered Again for AIC's MoPop induction. So good. They should record an AIC cover album!
My favorite musicvid with mastodon. Black and white, grainy and really dark stuff. Just brilliant~
every mastodon album so far has been a masterpiece.
2006 RUclips
240p? Are you kidding me?
relapse logic!
Look at the date
real men watch mastodon in 240p
Stfu dog the brownie hunter
WATCH IT BRADDA!
My first listen ever to Mastodon. Saw the vidieo @ZTV back in the day..
2020, still listening
Mastodon is my inspiration. Love them.
I saw them on the 7th, they were absolutely amazing. great live, they played the entire new album from start to finish and then played one song from each of their other albums. truly an amazing show.
Ha! One of my many awesome ring tones.
I love this song... and this video is entrancing
What a lovely little tune.
this song is just pure awsomeness!
the riff in the ends feels like youre on sea and enormous waves hit your ship.!!!!...great concept-album match....leviathan just masterpiece
In my opinion the best Mastodon song. Fantastic....
Whilst youtube generally lowers the quality of uploaded video (for space limitation purposes, I assume), I believe the fact in question here is simply due to the vocalist's vocal style. If you haven't heard the song much, you most likely wont be able to distinguish the vocals but, if you read along on a lyrics site, you'll be able to get it quite easily :)
This is one of the best metal videos EVER!!!! And i've seen quite a few in my 30 years!!!
All of their stuff sounds good, ALL OF IT.
This is where music needs to be!!
Mastodon is badass all the way around. i love their originality and musicality.
Yes! High on Fire as well.
mastadon is epic
After their latest release, you must be dull, to not see greatness of this band.
The vocals here are just so.. trippy.
Awesome band....Nice
Mastadon are such a great band!!
Awesome song and video 👏👏👏
that is one of the most epic and heavy outros in modern metal!!! \m/
Just saw these guys last night in Pittsburgh...never leave disappointed!!!!!
hell yeah man! get em all! leviathan is my favorite
i love the lyrics
Leviathan is one of my favourite albums ever, Its incredibly artistic and there isnt a bad song on it, Alot like ashes of the wake by LoG, which would be another of my favourites
The bass slide Troy does at the beginning reminds me of their cover of the The Bit by The Melvins.
ive always loved the older stuff
my #1 favorite song by mastodon
Mastodon son para mi gusto una de las mejores bandas de metal de la historia, y probablemente la mejor de su generación. Ojala pudiera escuchar otra vez toda la discografía por primera vez.
I wish we could get a remaster of this 240p video.
Props to the record label who uploads videos at 240p, guess quality doesn't mean much for this style of music.
This was uploaded in 2006 dude
^ ah brilliant observation lol
*****
They re upped all of Mastodons old videos in 1080p a couple years ago, check their channel.
i love how you make that needless pot shot at this style of music at the end
great grind on this song
I love this song!!!!!.
LOVE!!!!
leviathan is one ov my top 5 fav albuams ov all time
This album got me back into metal again🤘🤘
this to me is one of the best metal song ever recorded
mastodon is soo awsome
the vocals are epic too
Wooot! Totally agree!! There are some bands that are fun to listen to every once in a while due to virtuosity, but Mastodon hits on all cylinders of creativity and skill, making for a second to none listening experience sure to captivate!!
The coolest videos.
Nice riffs !!!!
beautiful song awesome video!
Metaaaaaal!!!
