You definitely skimmed over the moment where the Lich literally kills Billy and wears his skin as a disguise to manipulate Finn and Jake into helping him end all life. Also another dark moment can be found in the islands miniseries, where we learn how after Finn and Martin left the island Minirva fell into a state of depression and ultimately she “dies” to the virus that Doctor Gross released that killed off most of the other humans on the island
What is even scarier you just see a shadow and hear Billy scream before it cuts to black. Also think of what Finn must be thinking watching someone wear the corpse of his hero. It is one of the few times in the show you see Finn panic and his heroic willpower break as he is backing away in fear.
I never thought about Marceline and Simon’s relationship being like someone seeing a close relative go through dementia, it’s especially sad that way considering Simon is like a father figure to her. It’s good that he gains his senses in the last episode but man, you opened my eyes.
I was thinking what if marceline is the reason ice king is obsessed with pb I can just imagine marceline going over to simons castle checking up on him make sure he’s taking care of himself and telling him all about the very special friend she just made and it got stuck in his mind that pb is really special maybe after they stopped being friends she talked about how much she missed PB and he decided he needed to get PB to make marceline happy and that eventually got twisted to I need to get PB to be happy
As someone who has lost relatives to dementia, I will say that I managed to sit through "I Remember You" exactly once. It's a great episode, they just hit the nail on the head with that.
One scene from the episode “dads dungeon” where these girls were trying to get finn and jake to eat the fruit but when jake forced her to eat it, thorns came out of her throat and she turned into an apple and the other girls started eating her and the inside of the apple showed flesh and bones

Uh I think he DID lose his virginity to lumpy space princess LOL why else would they black out the screen like something "other than kissing" isn't happening 🤔
The episode where the ice crown was created always stood out to me. Especially with the context that everyone's consciousness is in that crown and those shared memories influence the wearer so deeply...
The episode where lemonhope comes back to his home kingdom when it's all in ruin always stuck out to me. It's just so depressing to watch him all alone while he's singing.
@@potatonite2340 He did. There was a brief scene of him meeting Susan and then later we see him again 1000 years into the future looking very old but still kicking
The Finn vs Fern arc always really f*cked me up because from my pov the Finn that combined with the grass demon to create the Fern WAS original Finn. If you go back to whichever episode it was (Prismo, I think) you see that original Finn gets turned into Finn Sword and duplicate Finn is the one who gets to live out the rest of their life. Also, Finn accidentally killing Fern is the SECOND time Finn unintentionally but very directly kills his original self. I think that's why he's so devastated each time
Fr dude, I always hate time travel episodes in cartoons because most of the time the main character gets replaced by one from a separate timeline. I don’t like it because while they’re “technically” the same person they really aren’t.
I always bring up the episode when Jake is going to meet Lady Unicorn's parents and towards the end, Finn is peer pressured (slightly) into eating fake human that is supposed to taste exactly like human. He finally eats it and the episode ends with him staring into the camera with a smile and the audio going silent. I thought that was weird 😐 it's one of the smaller moments, but i love it
Remember you was such a sad episode. Like, Marceline is literally reading what Simon wrote before he descended into madness and lost his sanity. I think Simon knew he would succumb to the crown's effects eventually. Worst part is how Ice King (Simon) doesn't understand any of it. He just thinks they're song lyrics he wrote. The way I felt about Ice King in the series was pretty much the same way I felt about Zuko from Avatar the Last Airbender. I hate/disliked the character towards the beginning, but after understanding the trauma/hardship the character went through I felt bad for them and didn't hate/dislike anymore. It's so sad what happened to Simon.
Yeah. Those characters feel like people that you wanted to hunt down and kill, then you suddenly know about their rough lives to the point that when they are at gunpoint, you stand down and leave, no questions asked.
Couldn't of said it better myself and now both are my favorite characters in their own respected shows.but rewatched avatar 2 twice last two weeks and zuko is my favorite character prolly from anything I vibe with him . Plus son of the fire lord and avatar Roku that makes you the goat just like that
I love how people are now starting to realize how good was Avatar now when everyone has nothing to do that staying in home watching Netflix. Myself included.
my dad used to sing me the song on that episode and i began to resent it as i got older cause i didn’t like talking about my feelings, but i’ve learned to love it again
But that's the thing. She was just as valid. As Barbara Gordon said "I only wanted to live." (It's a weird DC event. Time travel, alternate storylines, Hal Jordan is the bad guy, people meet alternate reality selves.)
@@JoaoBatista-dn4gx In an earlier version of the episode, Marceline didn't even have a skeleton anymore; she hijacked Simon's skeleton to push Jake up the toxic pool.
The whole episode Monster Princess is about someone who can’t accept their own identity finally committing suicide while everyone around her tries to cheer her up and ultimately can’t understand her. The end of the episode was literally her note. The message I got from it was “sometimes you can’t help someone you love and you have to come to terms with the fact that what they do is what is ultimately best for them.” Seriously dark episode.
Let’s not forget that “human island” series , the scene where Finn fights his dad and loses his arm while just desperately grasping to his biological dad ( and loosing him eventually ) ,and how gizmo IS JAKE SLEEPING
@@artsrandomstuff436 human island is where Finn met his biological mom. I don't know why he mentioned Finn losing his arm though, that was at the space prison or something.
I’m really surprised that one early on episode where Finn is being uncomfortably harassed by a gnome man at a party then kidnapped by the gnome man in the middle of the night, taken to his lair/ underground gnome cave. Worse enough, they torture him into suggestively spinning and dancing around a pole by electrocuting his feet. At the end of the episode Finn imagines a scenario where he successfully breaks free and destroys the lair while fighting off all the gnomes and reunites with Jake in a loving embrace... only for it to cut back to him struggling, perspiring, and whimpering helplessly in the chair still. It is somewhat over shadowed by the A Plot being Jake searching for Finn while getting comically sidetracked but I will never forget how uncomfortable that episode makes me feel.
I don't if this makes it better or worse but the lead gnome is voiced by Paul Ruben (Pee-Wee Herman). I always loved that episode, me and my brother always died laughing when he says "Fire the shooty-gun-ray!"
In the commentary of the episode "No One Can Hear You" it's mentioned that the deer survived the episode and actually died later on in the series in "Sons Of Mars" after being transformed into a telescope by Magic Man
idk why but watching this made me finally realize that music was such a large part of marceline’s character because both her mother and simon used music to comfort her and so she used it to comfort herself kinda wholesome, but overall rlly sad:(
I also remember an episode, I don't remember what's the title, in which BMO kills one of his siblings without ever having experienced love from his father to the point he tried to manipulate Finn and Jake pretending he was the robotic version of his creator.
That episode would be number one for me. messed my mind up D: before the show ended, I hoped they would come back to this and give it a happy ending. they never did :/
Princess Cookie was the best one off episode. It’s honestly so sad, you want to root for princess cookie and Jake but no matter how hard Jake tries the banana guards catch them. The saddest part is just how much Jake saw himself in princess cookie. The ending of the episode was bittersweet too.
Yeah the voice acting and score really drove in the weight of it all, too. I remember feeling very moved my first time seeing it, and those emotions came back when this video showed the clip of Princess Cookie thanking Jake for his almost futile efforts.
Yeah the episode with Lumpy Space princess forcing her on Finn is def the creepiest and really shocking that it even made it onto CN. Like you'd expect Finn to push her off and run away or something but how the writers handled it was much more disturbing, even without showing what happened.
Even “Evergreen” is dark, since we know the Ice King’s crown origins and how everything is messed because of an elemental jerk that abused his “adoptive son” and made no secrets about it
For me, almost every Lemongrab episode had some of the shows darkest themes and moments. From his inability to stop stalking the candy citizens and eventually torturing the citizens he does get, to he and his brother compulsively creating increasingly unstable forms of candy life, while starving their entire kingdom including themselves, to the brief but incredibly shocking moment where the original eats his clone alive in a fit of rage, and then seeing him grow into a brutal and unstable dictator, as his clone feebly clings to life and gives his own life again to allow Lemonhope to escape in hopes of a better future for his people, and knowing that all this is pretty much a result of uncontrollable urges rather than premeditated decisions. It's both horrifying and heart breaking to watch, and really challenges the audience to explore some of the darkest grays on the moral spectrum. He commits so many heinous acts throughout the series, and his voice and personality are grating, but he is consistently shown to have little to no understanding of how to change any of it. He struggles with the nature of his own existence after having received very little guidance, being abandoned by his creator because he was a disappointment to her. He does finally seem to find peace with himself, only after destroying an ancient hive mind who once again challenges him in a way that he can't cope with. That action's morality is also gray, though much more self realized than his previous ones, and gives a strangely satisfying conclusion to the arc of one of the story's best and most complex providers of psychological horror.
I vividly remember the episode puhoy, where finn lives a whole life, and when he dies and wakes up he forgets everything that had happened in the matter of like 3 seconds
There was also that ep, when Jake got a death dream from the cosmic owl, and straight up went to commit suicide. And Finn just followed him and wanted to commit suicide with him.
My mother always hated it, when we were watching Adventure Time. That was years ago and we were still small children. That one episode. The first time we saw the Lich, kept me up at night for several days. I hated it. I was terrified. Now its all good, but its still very scary looking.

One thing I think it's important to mention from Simon and Marcy is that It's because of Simon's use of the crown that Marcy got sick. When he made it snow on her
What makes fern even more ethically concerning as a character is he is not a clone of Finn, but he is Finn, just much as non fern Finn is. Fern is a constant reminder that Finn could have ended up just like fern, corrupted by evil
A pretty dark episode of Adventure Time is “Heat Signature” just for the fact that the plot is basically how a group of ghosts try to kill Finn and Jake through a prank all just to make them laugh
I actually think All the little people is just as disturbing as No One Can Hear You. I just remember my reaction to first watching that episode, the part where finn is pushing the tiny people together to make them kiss, or even when he stayed up at night and for weeks just playing with people, and being like wtf finn
At the time I just couldn’t guess what’s wrong with that episode and just liked it for some reason. Now it makes me realize how far can curiosity make a man go, and what type of wild wacky things it can push him to do.
I think one of the darkest things about Fern is that technically speaking he's a corrupted version of the original Finn. The Finn that was trapped in the sword was the original Finn wasn't he? When Prismo did all his time shenanigans to bring himself back by making Jake the new host, wasn't it the first Finn that became the Finn sword?
There is also a pretty dark episode with root beer guy, he has depression and his wife is unsatisfied and she is trying to do stuff but he hates his job

Honestly my favorite storyline in this show is ice kings past because it is soooo complex and multi faceted. It’s beautiful. It’s hidden behind a facade of a crazy old man but, like you said, it’s a story about mental illness
Oh damn, when Fin lost the flower on his arm after what happened with lumpy space princess I wonder if it was a metaphor for him being deflower in a way?
this show was the best, it always holds a special place near my heart. I remember someone i knew passed away and this shows helped me smile so yea thanks adventure time
bro, that episode when we know about the history of Marceline and the Ice King, I've never see it as Marceline dealing with someone she love having some mental disorder, that gives me chills.
Watching the episodes that show Simon and Marceline was always so heartbreaking. You see Simon beginning to go mad but Marceline was still hopeful. You hope and hope that Simon won't go mad and leave Marceline alone in a scary world, but you already know how the story ends
The one thing I couldn't seem to figure out was what was the third bucket? The first one was the trash bucket, the second was the one with Fern's remains, but the third remains a mystery.
Sad fact: In the song "Lemonhope", you see old Lemonhope walking around the leftovers of the world with a force-feild and a water tank attached to his chest. This is after everything happens in the main plot (evidenced by the layout of the world with the Broken Candy Kingdom and Finn and Jake's giant tree) and most likely after Distant Lands too. Lemonhope wanders around the inhabited Land of Ooo, somehow Ooo has no other living life forms seen, making Lemonhope the last person on the planet (this has not been proven but it makes more sense if it's true). He finds the old Lemon Palace, and finds his untouched room, still full of toys with a comfy bed. He turns off his force-feild, lays down, closes his eyes, and the episode is over. This most likely means: Ooo has no other living creatures exept for Lemonhope, and Lemonhope recognizes this, so his last adventure was to go home, turned off his force-feild (which most likely kept the water in him from his water tank to not dry up from the wind), and peacefully died in his bed, smiling to be back home. Edit: The fact that this episode aired way before the last episode, proved that Adventure Time has been planed out subtly since the beginning, like Finns arm, the Litch, and Marcaline and Simon/The Ice Kings relationship.
actually the writers admitted when the show started they had no proper plan to create a solid background for that world, but it's interesting how they later incorporated all of those disparate ideas into such a complex universe
Tbh one of the disturbing things in AT is PB’s arc up until S7 (I’m pretty sure), where Finn & Jake are friends with her and she’s all sweet and nice to them, but at the same time she is known to be a dictator who’ll murder thousands of conscious creatures if it helps her get her way.
So the deer: put the main character in a six month long coma, incapacitated his best friend leaving him mentally unstable, kidnapped ALL of the inhabitants of the kandy kingdom and encased them in that weird slime substance, then when the main character finally got there, rescued them, and killed the deer, it never actually died cuz its still seen in later episodes, and probably tried to rape PB. Idek at this point-

Also another dark moment can be found in the islands miniseries, where we learn how after Finn and Martin left the island Minirva fell into a state of depression and ultimately she “dies” to the virus that Doctor Gross released that killed off most of the other humans on the island
or, the episode where sweat pea(aka lich) shows the king of Ooo and the squirrell the existence of monsters before anything in reality.
I was about to say the Billy thing
Lich using Billy's dead body to get Finn to help him to kill everyone is definitely the darkest thing in CN history.
Michael afton moment
What is even scarier you just see a shadow and hear Billy scream before it cuts to black. Also think of what Finn must be thinking watching someone wear the corpse of his hero. It is one of the few times in the show you see Finn panic and his heroic willpower break as he is backing away in fear.
I never thought about Marceline and Simon’s relationship being like someone seeing a close relative go through dementia, it’s especially sad that way considering Simon is like a father figure to her. It’s good that he gains his senses in the last episode but man, you opened my eyes.
Yeah but tbh I was pretty upset to see his love be turned into an actual chaos machine

I thought that was weird 😐 it's one of the smaller moments, but i love it
If i recall correctly, finn even makes a comment about not disliking the food, so most likely, finn likes cannibalism

Plus son of the fire lord and avatar Roku that makes you the goat just like that
I love how people are now starting to realize how good was Avatar now when everyone has nothing to do that staying in home watching Netflix.

my dad used to sing me the song on that episode and i began to resent it as i got older cause i didn’t like talking about my feelings, but i’ve learned to love it again
It was super dark when Farmworld Marceline died. Sure she wasn't the Marceline we knew, but her death was still really disturbing.
But that's the thing. She was just as valid. As Barbara Gordon said "I only wanted to live." (It's a weird DC event. Time travel, alternate storylines, Hal Jordan is the bad guy, people meet alternate reality selves.)
Like DBZA Mr. Perfect Cell said to DBZA Trunks, "Multiverse Theory's a bitch". (Forgive my language.)
The more disturbing to is not the death itself, but the fact that she was alive when she handed jake to finn, there was not even flesh in her body
"I warned you, you butt."

Yeah the voice acting and score really drove in the weight of it all, too. I remember feeling very moved my first time seeing it, and those emotions came back when this video showed the clip of Princess Cookie thanking Jake for his almost futile efforts.

@@user-rx7sq8fd1p season 3 episode 21- Marceline's closet
Four month old comment, but you are describing fins adventures in pillow land. He lives a whole life, sees GOLB, then forgets about it entirely.
He basically time traveled to his later life but changed by living his later life in a pillow world

Sad fact:
In the song "Lemonhope", you see old Lemonhope walking around the leftovers of the world with a force-feild and a water tank attached to his chest.
@Kyle Vu remember, even though Marcy and PB are thousands of years old, dosent mean that they can't die.

What about “james” when the only way out of a pit hiding the remains of the people who were mutated in a radioactive explosion was to sacrifice one of their dearly held friends towards the zombies for the rest to have a chance of escaping.
You forgot the episode with James, when he sacrifices himself because Finn and Jake never trusted him.
Or that time an entire episode was devoted to Finn climbing to space to rip his dad's arm off
Yeah James who wear red suit wasnt imposter imposter was pink
I mean, finn losing the flower is literally him being de-flowered
Lol YES
Simon is one of my favourite characters in adventure time ngl , when he sacrificed everything to save marcy and himself I bawled 😭
What about Escape from the Citadel?? That whole episode had my jaw on the floor lol. Just thinking about the scene where the Lich says "fall" and gives a monologue about the end of existence in total silence gives me chills.
That two parter really made me wonder how they got away with how dark it was
In episode "All Your Fault" when Finn and Jake go through lemon castle if I remember right, when Jake opens the door to one of the rooms there is a lemon creature straight out of horror movie sitting and screaming.
AND IT’S FACE FUCKING PEELS ITSELF
Doesnt he have a second appearance, holding a bell & announcing dinner time?

Yep
THEN ITS FREAKING SKIN PEELS OFF
All your fault seemed like a preface to The Backrooms
The most WTF episode.. would be Treetrunk and her alien family. That one really confused me 😂😂
Watching Betty slowly descending into magical madness for Simon was also pretty dark. Especially in the show finale
"Everything about this makes me uncomfortable."
Yup, that's Adventure Time alright
I’m sad that Football didn’t even make it on the honorable mentions. :(
The scariest thing about this series was when I realized the great mushroom war was a nuclear war
