Ed King was my best friend at Hoover High in GLENDALE in the late 60's. Strawberry Alarm Clock came first then this great band. You left him out when he was a great guitarist.
He sure did. But Ed was a outsider. Even standing a lone in many of their photo shoots. But trust me, we all loved Ed King too brother. So rest easy about how this lineup spin ended friend
With all due respect, that was incomplete. Not mentioned is keyboardist Billy Powell, guitarists Ed King and Hughie Thomasson, bassists Larry Junstrom and Ean Evans and background vocalist Jojo Billingsey. Ed King co-wrote and played the guitar solo in "Sweet Home Alabama." Billy's keyboards added an undercurrent and new dimension to the Skynyrd sound. He also played solos in tunes like "Sweet Home Alabama," "Freebird," and "Call Me The Breeze." Larry was the man on bass when the band first used the name Lynyrd Skynyrd, but had departed by the time the band began record their first album. There were also errors in the narrating including stating six members died in the crash when the correct number is three, it was Ronnie Van Zant's widow who accepted the Hall of Fame award and not the brother Johnny and Allen Collins wrote the music to many of the songs, including "Freebird" and "Gimme Three Steps." But the music to "Sweet Home Alabama" was actually written by guitarists Gary Rossington and Ed King.
This thing is so stupid they show Artemis while talking about Bob and Gary while talking about Allen and leaves out Ed and Billy and their facts are wrong
The band was named after one of their high school teachers named Leonard Skinner. Sweet Home Alabama, Simple Man, and of course Free Bird! Great songs. The plane crash was less than 2 miles from a friend of mine’s house. What a great band they truly were.
I've always good old rock and roll music and Lynyrd Skynyrd Van Halen Jimmy Hendrix Bob Seger Kiss The Rolling Stones The Eagles AC/DC Motley Crue Def Leppard Fleetwood Mac the list gose on. I use to have the Gold and Platinum album but I guess someone else liked it better than me so the rest is history, rest in peace you Guys I enjoyed you all ✌️🌹✊
I can’t believe how many facts are false in this video. Leaving out key bandmembers, stating that Skynyrd was inducted in the RnRHoF in 1987, when they were actually inducted in 2006.
Yes, definitely a fan of Lynyrd Skynyrd! So much talent, gone but never forgotten. Favorite song would be "Sweet Home Alabama," but liked many more. 🙏 RIP LYNYRD SKYNYRD 🙏
Artimus Pyle is still alive & was not an original member, he took over the drums after original member Bob Burns left. Artimus is the last survivor of the plane crash though.
Well yes I am a big fan of Lynyrd Skynyrd You forgot to mention Ed King and you forgot about Billy Powell they also were members of the band. Long Live Lynyrd Skynyrd.
@@FactsVerse Free Bird does. Back in 1992 I went to a Lynyrd Skynyrd concert on Aberdeen Proving Grounds. It's located in Maryland I went with my sister an her boyfriend plus my cousin and my girlfriend an myself. It was a cold an damp night, my cousin that went with us ended up catching pneumonia and had to be hospitalized. She had already been diagnosed with cancer when she was younger an was told that she wouldn't live to see 18 years of age but she did. So when she was in the hospital she ended up having a stroke and she didn't make it when she ended up dieing it was my girlfriend's birthday which was the 3 of September. But the last song of night was Free Bird. The song now everytime I hear it now has so much meaning to me. Because it was a bad year all around not only did i loose one cousin I ended up losing another one on Christmas day. Then on top of that my girlfriend ended up breaking up with me.
You got some facts NOT CORRECT!!! You said 5 band members died on October 20, 1977 CORRECTION bandmates loss was RONNIE STEVE AND CASSIE! And you forgot to mention Billy Powell keyboard player has passed away get ur facts straight dude
Allen Collins accident was in 1986 & he never played guitar in public again. He & Gary started RCB in 1978, put out 2 albums but because of death of Allens wife in 1980, he started going off the deep end. Gary tried to help him but he lost his will to play & live. Gary mardied Dale Krantz, lead singer of RCB & they moved to Wyoming to start a family Allen missed music & got it together enough to start Allen Collins band & they put out an album & toured but death of his wife was too much & he lost will to live basically. So his music career was over but they were talking abt the 10th anniversary of plane crash & doing a tribute tour but had his accident. He did still travel w/band as I believe " musical director" but he would have to sit on side stage & watch the band play w/o him. He was also ordered by rhe court to go on stage at each show & tell his story of a series of car accidents he had while under the influence & the last one in 1986 killed his girlfriend. One thing I can say abt long time Skynyrd fans is that we still losten to the music all the time & thers are 100's of social media pages discussing them so oldies know pretty much all their is out there abt them. I did enjoy your cideo whoever you left out Ed & Billy 2 very important members . When talking abt each guitarists, they all were lead guitarists & all rhythm guitarists, that's why they were referred to as the 3 guitar army because in most songs they split lead guitar duty inc Gary & Steve both played slide guitar
Yes I am a big fan then and now. Simple man is my favorite song. I have seen them all in concert. So many times I lost.count. will continue to go see them anytime they tour close to me. They are my favorite band. My name is Lynne Carpenter and I live in Paragould Arkansas
There’s a lot of miss information in here and what about Ed King? No mention of him on here? He’s the guy that wrote Sweet home Alabama not Alan Collins. No mention of Billy Powell either. He was literally one of the most integral parts of the band. This is the worst video I’ve ever seen on Lynyrd Skynyrd three bandmembers died in the plane crash, their road manager, Dean Kilpatrick, and the two pilots of the plane died not six bandmembers
No, she didn't write it but she is the one who asked Allen "if I leave here tomorrow will you still remember me?" during an argument when they were dating in high school.
The best guitar player Allen Collins, Ed King, and the Indian that they rehired besides that Ronnie Van Zant, Leon Wilkinson and Billy Powell and just for FreeBird Gary Rossington and Steve Gaines and Hughey Thomason gets honorable mention but you can't deni Allen Collins he was the sound of Skynyrd and Ed King on guitar they were the best🎉 fly high FREEBIRDS still can't wait to see whenever I leave here tomorrow. Leon took a hiatus from the band in the late 70s and returned in 1987? Good grief. They ALL took a hiatus during that time. They did reunite foe a Volunteer Jam in 79, but Leon was still recovering so he was there but unable to play.
Skynyrd was inducted into the RRHOF in 2006 and the award was accepted by Ronnie's wife Judy. Also 6 band members were not killed it was 3 plus the road manager and the two pilots
Whoever put this video together could have edited it so much better, when they were talking about individual people they were showing almost everyone else but that actual person, they also said there was 5 band members killed in the plane crash when there was only 3 killed which was Ronnie, Cassie and Steve
Bob Burns was the original drummer as was Ricky Medlocke. Larry Junstrom was an original bass player in the late 60'6 into the beginning of the 70's. Then they got Leon Wilkerson. He was replaced briefly by Ed King before Second Helpings was about to be written and Ed King came up with the guitar licks for Sweet Home Alabama.

The album gimme Back My Bullets crash in ratings without Ed King in the mix.
Rest in peace to them all....

Oh my god. The errors regarding Allen are unreal. This whole thing is a really sad joke.
Daniel could have done the video. Actually knows his S#%t when it comes to Skynyrd. Thanks!👍
the pics shown dont match with the narrative. example: you talk about Bob Burns while showing pics of Artimus Pyle.
You forgot Ed King and Billy Powell, Billy was an amazing piano player and the other two honkettes

Hughie Ean JoJo And LJ
And they completely screwed up Allen's bio. He was paralyzed in 86 and was unable to play after that.
