    For everyone complaining "it's not Dutch" and "it's not German" and whatever else, listen to what Donal said. The "Dutch Baby Pancake" is an American adaptation (deutsch sounds like Dutch) of a southwestern German puff called a "pfitzauf" made in the oven. In the 17th-18th century, lots of southwestern Germans emigrated to Pennsylvania in America, and became the "Pennsylvania Deutsch" but spelled "Dutch" because time and language. So it's not actually Dutch, as Donal said, it's American-German.

      +John D pfitzauf, never heard of that before. have to look it up :)

      @zochbuppet448 7 лет назад

      EXACTLY. Its American. Never heard of it anywhere except in the USA and Canada. Dutch pancakes are made on the stove.
      (deutsch sounds like Dutch). deutsch means German. Going back 2000 years The DUTCH were Germanic tribes that move to present day Netherlands area.

    I used I to have these a lot as a kid growing up back in the states. A recipe for 'German Pancakes' had come with my parent's old blender from the 70s or 80s where you just blitz up all the ingredients in the blender and pour into pie plates and bake. They are a treat! Yours look moreish! I just had mine with butter and maple syrup and any fruit that was in season.

    I friggin love Dutch babies!!!!!! I'm used to calling them pop overs. I didn't realize that Yorkshire puddings were the same thing. 🤔
    I love that they are hollow because I put filling on the inside of hit and then re-heat them in the over just a bit before eating!
    Favorite fillings are Cream cheese with a jam and cheese with ham!

    My great-grandma, before she passed, used to make these all the time when I was younger. My family would go visit her home in Greece and she was one of the German peoples who went to America. She loved to make it and used to fill it with lots of delicious home grown fruit! Thanks for making this! Really nostalgic for me haha!

    These are "Deutsch-American" like Donal said. You will see them around in breakfast places occasionally in the US. The Pancake House has had them on their menu for at least 20+ years. It's funny how pintrest makes things that have been around for decades and hundreds of years seemingly new and unheard of. Love this chocolate take on this! Gorgeous :)

    Here the small ones are called baby dutch and the larger ones are the German pancake. In a local restaurant, they serve them with glazed apple slices, a squeeze of lemon juice and powdered sugar. I fold mine up like a burrito, flip it over, then coat with maple syrup. Delicious!!

    Also, they originated in the US. It was derived from the German Pfannkuchen. First restaurant it was produced in was the Manca's Cafe in Seattle in first part of the 19th century.

      I've made this recipe 5 or 6 separate times. it's delicious! The only problem I'm facing is that it's not fluffy. or when it does fluff up, it deflate within a minute of taking it out of the oven. How do I fix that?

    I've visited wiki for some more background and to me it sounds like some American found a recipe for real German or Dutch pancakes, failed by adding too much butter and too much batter. It didn't cook, so this person chucked it in the oven, it turned out well and he/ she named it after the origin of the batter, haha. Looks delisch though, so I'm going to try :). Whether they are French, American, Dutch, German or from anywhere else, I love all pancakes

    You should actually try a Dutch pancake sometimes... Like the dutch restaurants make. It's a somewhat thicker crepe, often baked with different toppings (cheese/bacon/apple/raisins etc. or a combination). Eaten with either with icing sugar/caster sugar/or stroop (syrup). Maybe it's because I grew up eating them, but they're really great
    Or 'poffertjes', which is a very similar recipe, cooked on a (very hot) cast iron plate with round dimples. Served with butter and icing sugar.
    There's very few things the Dutch really stand out with in the kitchen, but our starchy sweet treats are the best.
