Harry’s other recent video which covers the topic of depreciation and other issues was so spot on. Shared it with everyone I know who loves cars. The price of this car on release and subsequent depreciation is such a turn off! What a shame.. this car ticks a lot of boxes. Apart from that ridiculous screen.
Great review, Harry! But I'll happily be holding onto my 2017 with the 4.7 Ferrari f136 V8. Imho, Its combination of symphonic sound and beauty of design is unmatched by this or just about any other car of this century.
Harry, your video on the 4.7L GT was the reason I bought my 2018 and I still enjoy it to this day. Your take is balanced and spot-on - no sensationalist clickbait-y arguments for the sake of views and engagement. I have been contemplating swapping mine for a 2024 but have found the price a little too high for a larger volume (no longer hand-built in the Modena factory) car sharing that much with the Grecale/Giulia etc. Maybe when the price dips below $100k on a two-year-old CPO...
Thanks for putting up such a great review of the new GT! I have a 2014 4.7 Sport Auto, with the suspension completely reworked by Formula Dynamics, plus a Larini exhaust an air filter and some chips… and by God I much prefer it to my 991.1GTS4! It’s by far the best car I’ve ever owned. This new one seems to be more of the same and then some. Pity they incorporated everything into the head unit, and shame it’s no longer a V8, but I’s still have one over anything else at that price point, and to hell with the depreciation.
The F-Type coupe is such a pretty car, too. While this is a good looking car, IMO, and very much so in the context of the times, I think modern cars are overly aggressive at the expense of grace. The Roma is arguably the exception, and rumoured to have been the original design to replace the ageing first gen GranTurismo. Moreover, most people who buy these new are surely 50+, yet the looks seem designed to impress a much younger generation. The original GranTurismo is a classy car with attitude, whereas IMO this has lost some of that -- although many buyers of used GranTurismos have given them a bit of a yobbish image. I'd like to thing of myself as a young 60, but I'm not sure I like the image this portrays, and that screen is also OTT. Although that expensive metallic red paint really pops, maybe a more subdued colour suits the car better. Anyway, IMO the F-Type coupe has a classy look to rival the original GranTurismo. The interior is okay, too, but the engine tech is a bit crude, and IMO lets the F-Type down a touch. Then again, for the money maybe I shouldn't complain. It's a very compelling car used and was also very compelling new. And as you say, it was offered with a manual gearbox, although very few people chose it. Nonetheless, a manual F-Type is probably one of those cars to keep long-term.
@nigel.w appreciate your views on both cars. I can't stand modern cars with everything touchscreen which is one of reasons that I got drawn to the F-type in Caldera Red. That and the gearbox. It's a sublime experience for those who know how to make the most of manual shifting. Depreciation allowed me buy a 2018 model year at the age of 41 and at under £30K. I've had it for a year. It's my daily but looked after and gets cleaned twice a week 😊.
@@flyingphoenix113 Having everything in the touchscreen system plain sucks, no matter how good the system may be! Volume, heating/AC, lights NEED to be physical buttons! And the gear selector is also plain bad!
@flyingphoenix113 As those sorts of entertainment systems go yes it works well. But you still have to go through it do everything and that simply isn't right. I would hate it in a 50k Family SUV. As the price point this Is at I would want an interior above modern fads

Maserati and Aston Martin have the most beautiful cars on the market right now. If I were rich and crazy enough to ride the abysmal depreciation, I would buy the Granturismo, MC20 Cielo, DB12 Volante and Vanquish for my collection. They are all gorgeous!
I just love your reviews Harry. So informative, so balanced and so well done! Plus, you're the quintessential English gentleman! (Coming from an Aussie that's a compliment, as you'd probably know, that's well and truly over and above what you'd normally hear from one of us! 😀)
I had a 2015 GT Sport. Amazing engine sound. Amazing looks. But I really can't see myself buying a virtually identical car 10 years later, for the same price as a Ferrari, without that old sound. I'll get an MC20 in a couple of years instead.
Really nice car and a great presentation, Harry. You really help people out with their decisions about what car to look at. Thanks for the great video and drive safe.
My neighbor got rid of his Aston Martin DB11 for one of these and it's been a year and I still can't figure that out. Also kind of funny is the guy right next to him has the older version GranTurismo like you had. That's still one of the most beautiful cars ever made today, think it looks better than the new one too. To me if you are going to get a Maserati, get the MC20.
@@LavshBeatsTMlavishbeats He does actually daily drive it, daily drove the DB11 too even in the winter but he doesn't have to, he has other cars. @@venom5809 I think it really depends on what his use case is. Looks are subjective, but personally, I find the GT just as good looking as the DB11-it just has a different vibe. Plus, especially in the UK, the GT is a much rarer sight than the DB11, which you see around quite a bit. That exclusivity definitely adds to the appeal.
@@LavshBeatsTMlavishbeatsI’m in America, they are both rare but Aston is considered much more premium than Maserati. This would be considered a downgrade by most of us here especially since the original GranTurismo was a much cheaper car.
Whomever at Maserati decided to make their flagship motor a V6 rather than a V8 or better is probably kicking themselves. They would've sold way better if they had V8s due to the emotional connection.
Manufacturers.... please for the love of God bring back buttons! I am not interested in spending 10 seconds increasing the temperature as I work through a touchscreen menu
Haha 10 seconds! I think the demographic that can afford a car like this. Will be fiddling with it for 3 minutes. Anyone else 1 minute plus at least. I’m 45 and I hate these touchscreens. Don’t need it. Wouldn’t have it on any of my cars. We have 14 cars.
Maseratis. We are on our 5th one in 6 years. Our Quattroporte has been on Auto Trader since January. From 50k advertised, now down to 28k if anyone is interested!
Great looking car and by the sounds of it driving too. Ive had a couple of maseratis and now my son has that engine in his. Sounds really good in S form imo.
Beautiful car, great engineering. But that interior would drive me nuts beyond a few days test drive. Haptics for drive selection, headlights in a menu, just insane. I would rather the flawed and annoying parts in Maserati of old than the fundamentally inappropriate strategy implemented here.
I get what you mean but you are still being overly dramatic. Drive selection is not haptic those are actual physical buttons. Headlights you just set on 'auto' once and never touch them again.
Great review! I have driven this on track back to back with a mc20. Really surprised how well it faired on track - the mc20 is made for the track but the new Gt trofeo can hack it too. To your point that this is a fantastic all rounder…
The lower hp one at 116K is probably a good buy and ride. Pricing on so much these days is preditory behavior by those too big to fail or care. Nice GT Harry. Cheers 🇨🇦
Those who complain about the price don't understand what the point of this car and where the money was spent: the chassis, the engine, the suspension. And that's what counts. It's the best car in the segment for the right reasons.
That has to be one of the most beautiful cars on the market. Maserati has really stepped their game up lately with this, and also the equally stunning MC20. Happy for them!
Superb! I guess its a very flattering car to the driver....I know a couple of other channels do it, but you should do an old V new review for the 'cheaper' Granturismo....thanks.
it‘s a great-looking car no doubt about that!! as far as I‘m concerned I‘d rather have the previous "mc-shift" it‘s got more charisma and most of all it sounds like a beast!!!
I tested one having had previously had a later GrandTurismo Sport. Thought it felt like a much more accomplished car overall, rode well, but it was closer to a fairly sporty 5 series than a Maserati. And you just can’t avoid the reality that all the theatre has been lost with that new engine. I left disappointed but unsurprised and bought a used F430 manual instead.
I’ve driven an RS6 down that stretch of road and it was much as you describe this - 4 wheel drive, no twitches and just puts the power down tremendously.
That colour looks very similar to Rosso competizione on the Giulia QV. Looks like there's quite a lot of shared parts too. I think its gorgeous. I'll have to wait for it to depreciate down to £10k before I can afford one
Wow! Much better than I was expecting too. Almost as good looking as the previous gen. I presume as roomy or roomier in the back seats as well. And the engine, which sounds really great here! I never thought a turbocharged V6 would sound anywhere near as good as the previous gen’s normally aspirated V8. But to my ears anyway, it seems pretty close, if different. Not keen on the dash screens overload though, three of them there cheapening and ultimately dating the look of the interior. But it seems one has to have them nowadays 🤷♂️ but overall a great car it seems. And one of the best Maserati’s in years!
Great review Harry, thank you, this car is drop dead gorgeous! If they can fix the interior to be a little more analog, and keep the good looks, I'm in!
Like you, I’ve always loved the look of the gran turismo. I am very glad there are folk like you who can buy them so folk like me can look at them :) great colour in the red too
All big GTs suffer depreciation and having owned several Maseratis if you buy the special editions (Stradale, MCV) they have held their value very well. Aston, Bentley, Ferrari and Mercede GT's suffer cripling depreciation no matter how good a car they are. This Trofeo is receiving consistent excellent good reviews and if you want something out of the ordinary would be a great choice - if not keep buying from other less interesting brands.
The old one sounds SO good. I remember running into one on the highway in my straight-piped Evora S, and both of us really enjoyed making glorious V6 sounds at each other. 😅
Maserati did a great job on its new generation of cars but in my opinion unfortunately missed completely the mark on pricing. These should have been Mercedes price ranges, They're in the Aston Martin range instead. This one starting price is the same as a new Vantage. I honestly wouldn't have any doubt on which car i'd buy. And i suspect that the poor sales at Maserati proof that most people think the same. Should have went on and compete with an iconic brand and great cars against the likes of Mercedes and BMW. But great to hear that the car itself drivers great.
Jeez, why’s everyone so hung up on the paint? It’s an *option*! Plenty of lower cost / gratis paints avlbl, too. At least the GranT’s touchscreen is moderately aesthetically pleasing and looks contemporary(ish), unlike the Tandy budget tablet, c. 2011, that blights the Roma’s dash. BTW, the Alfa Giulia QV’s V6 is designed and built by Ferrari, not Maserati 🙂
Fantastic bit of metal, and I’m never going to be able to afford one. My concern would be residuals, Maserati is now known to be extremely unreliable and has huge depreciation. Let’s hope this car helps get them back. Such a great brand
@@preppen78 - it will be good value once the depreciation has hit. I bought one of the previous generation for less than half price, with just 18k on the clock.
Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio has virtually the same Ferarri origin engine with a slightly different head (and 520hp now) separating it from the Nettuno engine with 550hp no matter what the marketing says and it is far lighter than the new Granturismo and much cheaper with arguably better handling with the Giulia QV's development overseen by Philippe Krief who managed the Ferrari 458 Speciale project.
I’d hands down own a Maserati over competitors. Any one of the 3. Expensive sure, I get it, but the looks and brand alone frankly worth extra. That engine too… brilliant.
It bothers me that Harry says the car is dynamically very rounded, and most comments just ignore this. It is fair they're talking about the price but you get what you pay for and if anyone is thinking that a polished and rounded dynamic performance on a variety of real roads is just something that can be taken for granted and worth little, well I beg to differ.
That price for the red paint is obscene. Over the last 20 years I’ve bought 2 brand new cars, a fiesta in 2004 cost me 8K and a Seat Leon in 2014 cost me 21K, add those together and it’s about the same price as the paint job. I’m still using the Leon every day
Another great video Harry, well done! Always loved Maserati’s, looks like they’ve done a great job with this rebooted Granturismo as a driving experience. Pricing can get laughable and the depreciation will be frightening, probably best to go light on the options list if buying new or wait for a great used deal in 3-4 years time!
@@flyingphoenix113a diesel BMW 5 series estate is technically a better car than any maserati granturismo. It doesnt make it a better toy though. Yes the new one is quicker and more modern inside, but it's lacking the character of the old V8 model. Which was one of the key selling points.
These new cars are but a pale reflection of the old and glorious predecessors and to say they are better is nonsense. Driving the 2011 MC I consider it to be and many other petrol heads to be the greatest Granturismo ever, nothing else has come close.

I liked how he closed the glove box *angry* when he figured out that it is on a button 😂
Id love to be rich enough to burn 80k in depreciation in a year or two and not care.
That open laptop look reminded me of the "Danger to manifold" screen in FF1
Luckily the footwell did not fall out on this one...
10:47 the Land Rover 101 drive by was the highlight for me!
Well spotted 😅.
Aieee! Harry's pushing subliminal advertising! It's like the 'blipverts' in Max Headroom...🤯👀
I spotted that too as I'm a Landy owner and my mate has a nice 101 camper.
19:52 god it looks spectacular as it slightly rolls and charges up through there
13:43... But the farts are horrible 😂😂
@@pleun315 I actually like the farts 😆
Sounds like there were a couple of scrapes with the RHS loaded around that bend
Enough with the screens and digital readouts. I will take aluminium switches and old style dials.
they're saving money on their end and passing on the extra costs for R&D to the consumer
Great review, Harry! But I'll happily be holding onto my 2017 with the 4.7 Ferrari f136 V8. Imho, Its combination of symphonic sound and beauty of design is unmatched by this or just about any other car of this century.
they do sound lovely
I'm watching you Harry since Evo Diaries. Thank you for all those years
Since it original release, this is the most perfect exterior design of ALL cars..... just stunning....
A manual V6 F-type! Right amount of power, sounds amazing, looks stunning and lots of physical buttons 😍
That infotainment system/screen looks like an early 1980's business computer 🤣
But, it works rather well. Honestly, the new infotainment in Maseratis is one of the highlights rather than one of the disappointments.
@@flyingphoenix113 Does it really? Look how Harry had to take his eyes off the road to use it.
I hope it works like it, cause that is still the fastest way to enter data! 🙃
It’s incredible that we still can’t get sensible infotainment setups. Harry’s frustration is palpable. That ‘ok’ screen…. Can we just not anymore plz!!
Old people don't like new things, what a shocker.
@@stephen300o6 No! Experienced people don't like s#*t things!
Certain functions just NEED to be physical controlls to not suck! And the gear selection is just terrible!
@@stephen300o6I'm young and I don't like it.
@@stephen300o6 Yep, this. Voice control is getting better and better too, it's second nature to my kids, they rarely touch the screens.
@@svenblubber5448 They don't need to be physical buttons, but they do need to be in well designed user interfaces with no lag. Unfortunately almost no manufacturer seems to be able to manage this.
You seem to be spending more time looking at the infotainment screen than the road ahead.
My thoughts precisely.
Yeah i was also thinking the same... Change this setting, change that setting.... Just make a car you can get in and drive!
Everyone new car has this screen.....it will get you in trouble.....
Frightening cycling on the road whilst idiots are driving their cars and playing with their touch screens.
Therein lays the danger
Omg what a difference in the sound and character department of the engine, that old engine was something else. I love it in the 8C as well.
What a fantastic car by Maserati! I just hope people will buy it! I am not so sure about its price tag.
I had a 2015 GT Sport. Amazing engine sound. Amazing looks. But I really can't see myself buying a virtually identical car 10 years later, for the same price as a Ferrari, without that old sound.
I'll get an MC20 in a couple of years instead.
This car will cost the same as that paint in 6 months.
6 months? Try directly off the forecourt. Shit Maserati dealers are likely so desperate for sales they'll pay you £26k to take one
Except that paint would be worth about 1/100th of what you paid.
@cbotten106 a waste, really.
Haa! Yeah so you get back the cost of the paint job after a few years.
it will depreciate by the same amount as the paint cost the second it leaves the dealership.
Really nice car and a great presentation, Harry. You really help people out with their decisions about what car to look at. Thanks for the great video and drive safe.
First thing I thought when this video started was "wow what a great colour!" Not 30k great but I guess Maserati wanted to impress with the press car.
If it’s his daily driver then I can understand his decision. The DB11 just doesn’t have the same cross functionality of the new GranTurismo.
@@LavshBeatsTMlavishbeats He does actually daily drive it, daily drove the DB11 too even in the winter but he doesn't have to, he has other cars. Also his work is maybe 5 miles away so he could drive anything really. I have never once looked at that car and said yeah, he made the right choice getting rid of the Aston, that DB11 was just so beautiful.
Maserati wasn't selling and won't be selling at this price for that. The depriciation is crazy on these cars.
The F-Type barely gets away with the V6. There's no way a Maserati can.
Honestly, that colour, that shape, that sound - if I had MORE than enough money to burn - I'd order that car in a heartbeat.
Manufacturers.... please for the love of God bring back buttons! I am not interested in spending 10 seconds increasing the temperature as I work through a touchscreen menu
The obsession with touch screens from the consumer has been heard by the manufacturer.
I personally can't stand touch screens in a car.
But we gave you nice piano black plastic buttons for the gearselection!
Maseratis. We are on our 5th one in 6 years. Our Quattroporte has been on Auto Trader since January. From 50k advertised, now down to 28k if anyone is interested!
I hope the Roma gets a physical button facelift like the F80. If it does, it will likely be the best-selling sports car in its price range.
Great looking car and by the sounds of it driving too. Ive had a couple of maseratis and now my son has that engine in his. Sounds really good in S form imo.
That shade of red is dope
That red costs more than my car from new.
What colour is dope?
Surely that’s the stuff you put on tissue paper to shrink it when applying it to model aircraft????
30k?....
Soul red looks as good on an MX-5 and comes with the car for free judging by Maserati prices😂
@@PhilbyFavourites😂😂
Great video Harry, cracking colour on that GC.
I wonder what Sreten has to say about this in a couple years
That has to be one of the most beautiful cars on the market. Maserati has really stepped their game up lately with this, and also the equally stunning MC20. Happy for them!
As aside. Look at how he has to take his eyes off the road to change the drive mode. These are retrograde steps in ergonomics.
More and more these days i find the "drive modes" are the dumbest invention ever on a regular car. It's such and unnecessary feature.
Loved the video, as usual, and loved the FC101 military Land Rover at 10:45 !
This Maserati has a strong Mazda RX vibe
Remember that 2012 video. I’m sure you’re getting younger😂 long time subscriber and will remain an avid watcher with content this good. 👍
6:58 Oh that’s where I left my laptop 🤦
It’s absolutely ridiculous. 992 is as far as I’ll go. Rather drive a Mkiv vw or the like.
To your point, and for 30,000 more, Trofeo should have the 630 HP from MC20
My thought exactly
I’ve driven an RS6 down that stretch of road and it was much as you describe this - 4 wheel drive, no twitches and just puts the power down tremendously.
Stunning colour
Thanks for the review Harry! We agree, the 30K price tag for the optional paint is CRIMINAL. However, we LOVE the looks of the seats-gorgeous!
That colour looks very similar to Rosso competizione on the Giulia QV. Looks like there's quite a lot of shared parts too. I think its gorgeous. I'll have to wait for it to depreciate down to £10k before I can afford one
So buy a flat black one for a grand and have it repainted for another 2 grand? 🤣 Be cheaper than £30k
So two more years then? 🤣
@ 😂😂👍
Love this one but stil prefer the Roma!!
Great review Harry, thank you, this car is drop dead gorgeous! If they can fix the interior to be a little more analog, and keep the good looks, I'm in!
29k for a paint colour. The car world has literally gone mad.
Love the little jumping before entering the car
Beautiful Maserati 👌
Love the videos. Look forward to watching them every Sunday. Thanks.
Bloody lovely. Might spoil myself at some stage.
Exactly! People are getting way too caught up with the minor negatives of this car. Depreciation isn’t exclusive to Maserati.
The old one sounds SO good. I remember running into one on the highway in my straight-piped Evora S, and both of us really enjoyed making glorious V6 sounds at each other. 😅
You can’t be pragmatic with 🔱
Such a lovable car.
That’s a lot for paint ! Wrapping would be way way cheaper
Wrapped cars always look wrapped. There's no depth to it. They don't have the same look as a beautifully painted car.
Me me me! I have owned 6 of the bast... Marque! Love them all, my Shamal was the best of the best! I was always after your plate too Harry 😂
This definitely deserves more views. People need to see this!
Then watch it again.
Beautiful car with great performance . . . I'm going out to order mine now . . . with the special paint.
Possibly the most beautiful car currently for sale
gobsmackingly pricey though

@@RichardHartley65 Nice! It's a gem of a car. How's the maintenance on it?
@@preppen78 - some parts are expensive but overall not too bad. A good independent is useful as dealership servicing prices can be a bit eye-watering.
19:10 with the most hilarious car farts 😂😂😂
The real star of this episode is Harry's glow up between 2012 and now
Problem is a nice 40k used one looks just as good, if not a bit better.
Not an investment but beautiful. Bouught an old one - flawed but special
The V6 is a non starter for me. The V8 was the best thing about my old 2019
Even though the car is better in literally ever other respect? I miss the V8 as well, but this is a better Maserati.
@@flyingphoenix113a diesel BMW 5 series estate is technically a better car than any maserati granturismo. It doesnt make it a better toy though. Yes the new one is quicker and more modern inside, but it's lacking the character of the old V8 model. Which was one of the key selling points.
It's not 2012 anymore...
These new cars are but a pale reflection of the old and glorious predecessors and to say they are better is nonsense. Driving the 2011 MC I consider it to be and many other petrol heads to be the greatest Granturismo ever, nothing else has come close.
