Memory Eternal and RIP Robert Clary March 1st 1926 - November 16th 2022 May you find rest and peace with your fellow heroes Bob Crane, Richard Dawson, Larry Hovis, and Ivan Dixon. Vive la France 🇫🇷 !
Back in the early 80s, I was in ROTC at Creighton University and was on an honor guard that was presenting the American Flag for some ceremony. There was a suite at the hotel where they put us to prepare, and we shared it the the SAC (Strategic Air Command) Band. The band master played a game with us where he asked us to pick out themes to television shows and his band would instantly play them. One of our group said Hogan's Heroes and they played it so well you would have thought it was the soundtrack from the television show. These guys were excellent. My Dad was stationed at Offutt AFB where SAC HQ was and I heard this band many times and I can say they were great. Long story I know.
You're welcome! It's actually a crazy story... I'm a huge Hogan's Heroes fan as well and when I found out that they made this record, I looked for audio recordings of it online and I couldn't find any good ones. So I ordered the original vinyl record- (from some guy in London) and I found this company called EverPresent, that converts audio cassettes and vinyl records and stuff to CD or audio files. It cost money but it's such good music that it was worth it. So once I got it to audio format, I was like "There's not any good audio recordings of this record on youtube and I'm sure there are other people who would like to hear it as well, so I'll upload them." Glad you like them! All of them are really good, and my goodness does Ivan Dixon have an amazing voice! :D
@@horsesandbruins Yes, Ivan Dixon totally wowed me when I heard him on this record. This guy could have sung opera. I knew that Robert Clary and Larry Hovis had previously been singers, but Ivan Dixon's talent was a surprise to me. I see in his Wikipedia article that he played a role in Porgy and Bess. I would assume that was a singing part, since it is a musical. Still, it does not appear he ever really had a singing career, which is sort of a shame. Thanks for posting this on RUclips.
As a kid not only would I have bought this album but listened to it over and over (driving my mom nuts, she HATED the show). At this stage of my life I am downsizing, so this is a great find.

I just found this album at a thrift store today. Don't have my stereo hooked up, so came here to listen. This was one of my dad's favorite shows. Thanks for posting!
Its nice to see people from other countries appreciating old American TV. There were some gems that you probably wouldn't get exposed to unless you actively sought them out. Welcome to the fandom (:
Wow! This is great! Thanks to my dad I also love HH's, and he would have loved to hear this from the boys! My dad loved this band/ military style music! This brings a tear to my eye!
I just listened to the complete album. I absolutely LOVE hearing these very talented Actors of whom also had GREAT singing voices! The nod to the songs of WWII also showcase their voices to some of the best written songs in history! ❤️🎼🎶❤️

Ya know, in early Hollywood, you couldn't _be_ an actor or actress if you couldn't sing, play piano or some other instrument, dance AND act. Now you don't even have to be able to _act._ We have these videos like 'actors you didn't know could _sing'_ when a few decades ago it was surprising to see one that *couldn't.*
Wrong. Many, many, many actors simply FAKED there way into not only singing and dancing, but the acting part. David Niven is an infamous example of a handsome man who simply slipped his way into parties and friendships and dove into acting because he wanted to have fun. His autobiography admits all the details, no formal training, etc. Much of the horseback riding, driving, minor stunts, etc were also just faked (done by actors, but not a professional) just to get the job. So don’t hold your shining fantasy too high.

As someone born in 1894 this is my favorite show from before I was born!
You must be the oldest person on Earth!
Heroes, heroes, husky men of war,
Sons of all the heroes, of the war before.
We're all heroes up to our ear o's
You ask questions
We make suggestions
That's what we're heroes for.
All good heroes love a good, big fight
Open up the bomb bays and brighten up the night.
We Earn Laurens Solving Your Quarrels
You Throw The Roses
We punch the noses,
That's what we're heroes for.
What's a hero do?
Well, we're not gonna tell ya
Cause we wish we knew.
That's why we heroes are so few.
We've got a slogan
From Colonel Hogan
And Colonel Hogan's a hero too.
Never flinch, boys, never be afraid,
Heroes are not born, boys, heroes are made.
Ask not why, boys, never say die, boys,
Answer the call, remember we'll all be heroes forever more.

The drums in the original theme were by Bob Crane Himself

The words were written specifically for this album, which was released about 10 months after the show debuted.
The words were written to enable a special copyright that permitted the writer to get a royalty everytime the song played.
