Just got a Jato 3.3 my first bedside the classic tmaxx sport 2wd I converted 4wd to a 2speed upgrade 2.5r to 3.3 with os carburetor had it sense 2004 and i decided to let it go🚶♂️ after all them years of owning it.
The issue is not the break in method. It is the rod on the 3.3 they are garbage. We need an aftermarket source to make a better 3.3 rod. I love the 3.3 I did 4 heat cycles out of the box and then let her rip no problems. Use the bones 20/12 blend and plan on brewing my own.
I had a nitro 4tec 2.5 and I had a nitro rustler 2.5 and Tmaxx 2.5 I had 3 cars and 6 trucks all nitros along time ago. I miss it. I lost my old nitro rustler 2.5 and nitro 4tec 2.5 in a storage along time ago i miss it. But hey I’m good now so I ain’t worry about I’m getting a new nitro rustler.
Sup bro! what's up! Traxxas 4 life bro! And yet so many people hate on traxxas, right. I sued to also have a 4tec 2.5, was not my favorite. Always has drive belt issues at the time, weird because the same 3 belt drive setup in my RS4 never gets messed up .
Hopefully the new models have pre-glued tires, my Rustler back in early 2000's did not, missed that part I guess, blew those tires off during break in and jacked up the wheels, haha.
hey my dude! Im happy to report that all new Traxxas models have pre-glue tires which are fantastic. This brand has come a long way and it still makes great nitro models, something that many brands have stoped doing. Anyways, happy to have you here and never forget, you can't kill a nitro!.

Thanks BEN! I gave this nitro rustler back to it's owner and now I can resume making some vintage nitros GREAT AGAIN! One thing that still baffles me about this nitro rustler is the brakes. I did plenty of adjustment and they still suck. It's got the PHANTOM JATO brake problem, lol.
If you were going to get one of these or the nitro slash, to race... aside from maybe radio/servos, and battery pack for the radio gear... and maybe the pipe... what things would you think needs some upgrade or spares? I'm thinking steering components...
Hey buddy, thank you you are correct. I found it and have already replaced it after this video, thanks again and let’s keeping makeing king Nitro great again.
Hey buddy, thanks for checking out this video. Yes, you could see the fuel from the side it is not a very comfortable viewing angle, I would really recommend just checking the level of fuel by simply opening up the fuel cap, then you definitely cannot make a mistake. Some modern fuels are also clear which would make it even more difficult to literally see through the tank you know.
you the man!! We gotta break them nitros in any chance we get, lol!! Nobody gonna stop us bro, our mission is to make nitro great again! and we are slowly making it happen.
My engine had an air leak from the factory. Send the engine in to Traxxas and they send me back the upgraded 2.5R engine for free! Time to break it in again haha.
A bit lean, I would have liked to see a good plume of smoke out the pipe for break-in. I still have my old nitro street, essentially a version of the old rustler.
hey my dude! Thanks! I highly recommend the T-maxx 3.3 (watch some of my videos on it, you will see why). But to summarize it, the t-maxx is easy to work on, very tough, it's got a single steering servo instead of 2 on the revo (all you really need is 1). and it's got the forward only 2-speed installed unlike the REVO with the troublesome optidrive and reverse system. Both are awesome and I own both, but the t-maxx is my GOTO nitro truck these days.
Hybrid32494 just did a brake mod video for the JATO. The way Traxxas made the brakes work is a poor design. I highly recommend you watch his brake mod video and do the same thing to yours.
@@monte19770 yeah man I’ve noticed it my old jato did the same thing cause is to slow the speed down and it was hitting on the gears that’s crazy and I bet it can cause damage to those gears right? Again thank you for posting that it means a lot
@@therccelebrityspeedfresh5393 no, the post hits the transmission case and doesn't allow the brakes to operate properly. Hybrid32494 flipped the bell crank upside down and positioned the other end facing toward the engine. Just watch his brake mod video and you will understand better. I on the other hand....didn't think about flipping the bell crank upside down and bought the dual disc brakes from Hot Racing and spent $40 if I remember correctly. ruclips.net/video/EMRnfADtK3s/видео.html I found the video.🏁
hy bro! I agree, unfortunately in this model the Wiring harness would have to be upgraded to the T-maxx model one, which has a connector for the battery pack. Anyway, I highly recommend using tape around the AA battery pack, this will protect from batteries coming out and runaway. It's a 100% bulletproof fix and you will never have batteries fall out if you tape it.
hey bro! I have noticed the brakes are terrible on this one too. I actually spent like an hour off-camera trying to make them better, and only had about a 30% improvement at best. First thing make sure the throttle linkage opened fully and has enough movement to pull the brake lever. I noticed you have to adjust the collars on the thottle arm to allow the brake lever to close more, and also have to slightly move the collar on the brake linkage itself to make it tighter. Overall they still suck, and it's something I need to look into more. you're right.
Yes please! Was gonna comment on the jato vid about how my rustlers brakes were also terrible. Figure this out, nitro gang needs this fix! Keep it up 👍
hey buddy! thanks for watching and your comment. Join this FB group, I'm the Admin, you could post pictures there and the NitroGang will for sure help you out my dude!
you got it my dude!! The Nitrogang over here not gonna rest until we have made Nitro Great again! That means lots of repairs, restorations and break-ins.!!! LOL. thanks for watching man.
hey dude! Yes, there has been a string video and some other things on this 1/5 nitro bike. Here is the video link for you..ruclips.net/video/2NfTHa-Dtxo/видео.html
I like it. If it works and it’s enough to have fun I would get it. I don’t need a Kyosho. But if for the same price I can have a Kyosho, then I’ll take the Kyosho
hey bro! You could get a cheap Kyosho buggy for the price of this thing (just about). The problem you'll run into with any KYOSHO is parts support. I hate to say it, but TRAXXAS is the current king when it comes to parts availability and support. Plus this is significantly faster and proven to be faster with real speed tests. Look into the Nitro Slash, it's built with the rustler chassis but longer, and comes with a 3.3.
hey my dude! The first nitro rustlers came out around 1997ish. Anyway, I also messed up my first nitro and broke pull-starts, once I figured out how to correctly use it I have never broken one again. I would say most of it is user-error, but the older models were obviously 1990 tech and lower build quality, you know. The modern nitro rustler is a fast BEAST of a nitro..
@@hybrid32494 1997 sounds about right my brother had a Schumacher 21 extreme storm around the same time and that broke all the time too but that was rc in the old days I had a bandit too and a stampede all of which where difference types of broken at any one time 🤣 my first rc car was kyosho big brute probably got that in 1990 ish rc cars r so much better now thanks for the information 1997 I was about 13 🤣
My rustler barely idles and i have the idle screw in all the way, can you help me raise the idle? is it my low speed needle? thanks for any input Nitrogang.
hey my dude!! Yup, I saw. I'm actually doing a video on. that right now, I'm angry over it myself. Luckily I got all of them before the price hike. They must have watched my older video where I analyzed their prices and compared them to 2000, ahaha. I'm gonna include this comment in my video BTW.. You the man!!>
Maby you can help me. I just got the Niro rustler. Tank 1 on break in I let idol for a bit and it went full throttle on its own. So I shut it off and let cool. Any idea what caused that? Now I'm worried it might have damaged the motor
hahah, EXACTLY what I was thinking! Gives you something to look at while doing a break-in right! It's the Nitrogang's form of self entertainment, ahah.
Hey bro! You got it on the close up!! My goal is to always portray what I'm saying as clearly as possible. I re-watch my own videos about 2-3 times after final edits have been made to check for issues or any corrections that could be made. You could say each video goes though a "BREAK-IN". lol. So to say! ahah. But ye that traxxas chart is quite good, most people don't follow the break-ins and then just blame traxxas for their issues.
@@hybrid32494 so you say the car is not running right how did you break it in customer what do you mean break it in I put gas in it and ran it at full speed
whats up my fellow JATO nitro Brother!! I highly recommend you look into the Nitro Slash instead of this one. The nitro slash comes with the 3.3 and is built on the extended chassis when compared to this model. Both are great, but the 3.3 in the nitro slash is worth getting I would say.
@@hybrid32494 nitro slash is good. I drove one before it’s fast. Same speed is the jato 65. If it has the same engine like the jato it will hit 65mph it goes 50 out of the box it’s got the nitro rustler chassis in it.
On my first tank and whenever i let it run for about 15 seconds the rpm starts to climb for no reason. It climbs very slowly but way higher than it should. Is that a common issue
hey dude, let me try to help you out some. First thing I would do is RICHEN the low speed needle (the small needle on the side of the carb). Richening it will allow more fuel to flow and will lower your RPM some. You could also need to lower the idle gap and richen the High speed needle. Generally it's normal to have some IDLE creep if you're not driving. It's a sign of an air leak if it's really bad and the tune does not help. Try it and let me know.
@@hybrid32494 hey I tried richening the low speed needle and it worked. I also checked head bolts etc and they’re fine so no air leak. Real quick, is it normal that when I first throttle it up it doesn’t want to rev much then it kicks in all of a sudden, instead of smoothly accelerating? I’m in the half throttle stage of break in, and I have been doing it in increments whenever I have time instead of all at once so hopefully that’s ok.
Even the current 100% all electric RC market can't kill the longest running name in NITRO. The Traxxas Nitro Rustler baby!! Sometimes 1-speed is all you need, ahahaha.
hey bro! how you doing! It has to be an upgraded swapped in motor. The nitro rustler was always shipped with the 2.5 motor, never had a 3.3 in it. Must have been an upgrade.
hey buddy! You know ,that is exactly what I thought previously too. I have a nitro sport, and showed it in another video. Turns out the nitro sport is significantly cheaper made than the nitro rustler. Other than the Pro 15 engine it's got a half aluminum and half composite chassis, and also no bell-crank steering. So significantly cheaper made.
Nitro gang!!! Does anyone know when Traxxas started coming out with the 2.5 jato and discontinued it? I’ve been doing my research and can’t figure it out?
Hey buddy, thanks for checking out this video, I don’t think I ever said this chassis was terrible. I was only pointing out that it’s an old design so people can understand the history behind it. I have another Nitro rustler, and will never get rid of it, this channel is dedicated to Nitro‘s, and whether they are old or new I appreciate them all for what they are, thanks again for watching.
I just bought a Nitro Rustler and I hate it. It’s impossible to tune. The needles don’t do anything except make the truck run erratic or not at all. Idle screw does nothing. It bogs, or has sudden bursts of speed that will flip it over. A lot of times just revs really high on its own. I’m about to smash it. Somebody help!
hey my dude! I know exactly the problem you're running into. I've had that same issue a few times on the 2.5 engine also. Basically the carb was bad. Iw old recommend you richen the Low Speed Needle like a full turn and then try to tune from there. I find the LSN setting to be completely off for most conditions. let me know.
Update: Richening one turn seemed to do the trick, it ran like a champ. I leaned a bit but not too much, afraid making too drastic changes would put me back in the negative. Also, did not run Traxxas fuel this time so I’m not sure if that played a part too. Thanks bro!
t maxx 3.3 number one best rc truck ever and 1/15 e revo vxl number two and nitro rustler number three and rustler vxl number four all rc trucks I all the best and they all number one and traxxas is the best.

Just got a Jato 3.3 my first bedside the classic tmaxx sport 2wd I converted 4wd to a 2speed upgrade 2.5r to 3.3 with os carburetor had it sense 2004 and i decided to let it go🚶♂️ after all them years of owning it.
I am new to nitro and just bought a used rustler with 3.3 swap and it is wicked fast like my jato
hey man! welcome to the channel! Happy to see another fellow nitro lover here! You def cannot beat a nice rustler with a 3.3, I totally agree!!
@hybrid32494 oh ive been in touch with traxxas like crazy picking brains ordering parts and they said you are they guy to watch and learn from
The issue is not the break in method.
@@hybrid32494 Glad to be here, I'm sure I'll have a blast going through the content! I was actually shocked after spotting this video and looking that they have the Rustler, T-Maxx and others still available, that's awesome! Might dig my old Rustler out, cleaned it out well before storage, but it's been over 10 years since it was last fired up.
As Corey Taylor said! " Old does not mean dead, new does not mean best"
hey man! Yes, I totally agree. Plus I dont really want the BEST or the newest, I just want more NITROS! ahaha. you know.
Awesome intros Eminem the goat!
Here we go boys
Pretty convenient for traxxas to include a spare spur gear in the box.
I had one these as a kid. I remember racing my buddy's nitro sport and dusting him every time. Ahhh the memories 😃
Thank you hybrid for these awsome videos. I am building a rustler for rock bouncing. It's is going to be one of a kind. Ill post it in my channel when in am finished.go nitro gang!! I wished I lived closer so I could race you.lol
Love the smell of a new nitro on a Saturday morning! Goes for gas to!😉 Bro! I couldnt believe what came in the box of my brand new 2020 Traxxas Jato 3.3?! That fuel bottle??? That was an extra $20 in 2002, extra glow plug??? Another $10 air filter oil?! Another $10 i had to buy all that seperate at the time! Good job Traxxas and better job Nitrogang! 🤘 Rcmaxgang is going back to finish the new cage for Rcmax Supreme 55 Baja 5B after her devestating 35mph+ cage bending, shock popping crash last bash video 👍
I have a question I’m new to nitros can u give me a link to buy nitro for this car
Dude....I'm about to order a big rock v3.....🤘🏼🤠. ...😁😁😁. Have a great day buddy ✌🏼..
Awesome video and great info on the Traxxas rustler 👍👍👍👍
Think I'm gonna buy a Nitro Rustler and Nitro Slash before next outdoor season...
Loving this one thanks for sharing nitro gang also happy Fourth of July two spend baby lets go running 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲
hey bro! Happy 4th to you too!! I need to pull out something special for this year's 4th of July!
nitro rustler 2.5 was my first nitro i got it off ebay and just got up grades for it
Just bought the same car used (practically new) and I think mine is around a 2010-2012 it has the older 27mhz that I’m going to upgrade to the 2.4 ghz
This was my first real rc like 15 yrs ago Im thinking about getting another one.
Traxxas makes a switch with a connecter for the hump and charging port. $8
Hey buddy, thank you you are correct. I found it and have already replaced it after this video, thanks again and let’s keeping makeing king Nitro great again.
Love the Intro dude!
It's hard to see, but can you see the fuel tank from the side? To see when it's running low? Thanks
@@hybrid32494 Thanks man!
I broke my Nitro Rustler in while I was on vacation in the parking lot!!
you the man!!
Just ordered myself a sickening Nitro Rustler. Excited for it to arrive 🛻💨
Cool stadium truck
thanks bro! This is the oldest current production nitro ever made, it's honestly super legendary!
A bit lean, I would have liked to see a good plume of smoke out the pipe for break-in. I still have my old nitro street, essentially a version of the old rustler.
Hello really good vidieo iI'm thinking of buying a new nitro rc car
which one do you recommend the most either a traxxas T-maxx 3.3 or a revo 3.3
hey my dude!
Bro I hit my brand new jato into a curve yesterday but lucky it just a front bumper I was upset but no damage on the body
I on the other hand....didn't think about flipping the bell crank upside down and bought the dual disc brakes from Hot Racing and spent $40 if I remember correctly.
ruclips.net/video/EMRnfADtK3s/видео.html
I found the video.🏁
@@monte19770 oh ok. gotcha
I don’t like using those 2aa battery packs because they can cause runaways I like using a rechargeable battery
@@hybrid32494 sounds great thanks 😊
Nothing like a new nitro!
just bought one a week ago can you do a vid on how to fix the brakes out the box comes with lil to no brakes
Keep it up 👍
I bought a Nitro rustler from Ebay about two years ago. Can you help identify what parts are on it. How do I join your gang?
hey buddy! thanks for watching and your comment. Join this FB group, I'm the Admin, you could post pictures there and the NitroGang will for sure help you out my dude!
thanks bro, keep em' coming.
you got it my dude!! The Nitrogang over here not gonna rest until we have made Nitro Great again! That means lots of repairs, restorations and break-ins.!!! LOL. thanks for watching man.
Did you follow the manuals break in instructions or did you do it your self if so please do let me know
how do you stop the wheels from spinning like that on startup
Have you ever made a video of the nitro street bike if so what is the link/heading? I’d like to see it
I had one probably getting on 25 years ago might of been 30 years ago 🤣 was a terrible rc car pull start broke all the time not an issue now
hey my dude!
@@hybrid32494 1997 sounds about right my brother had a Schumacher 21 extreme storm around the same time and that broke all the time too but that was rc in the old days I had a bandit too and a stampede all of which where difference types of broken at any one time 🤣 my first rc car was kyosho big brute probably got that in 1990 ish rc cars r so much better now thanks for the information 1997 I was about 13 🤣
Hi I have a nitro rustler it has been sat for a long time I have tried my best to get it running but cannot get it going
Another nitro fired up and ready to go.
Let's put 3.3 engine in the Rustler bro!
I upgraded my Rustler with a 3.3 and it's a straight beast. Also upgraded the drive shafts to M.I.P. Drive Shafts. 🏁
@@monte19770 hybrid32494 should do it!
My rustler barely idles and i have the idle screw in all the way, can you help me raise the idle? is it my low speed needle? thanks for any input Nitrogang.
Bro HRP raised the price yet again on the savage X They want 700 bucks !
hey my dude!!
I like the nitro bike there for moral support bro
hahah, EXACTLY what I was thinking! Gives you something to look at while doing a break-in right! It's the Nitrogang's form of self entertainment, ahah.
I was just going to say if it’s not broke don’t fix it
9:21 thank you for doing a close-up so I could read it
I didn’t hear you honk the Prius horn
@@hybrid32494 so you say the car is not running right how did you break it in
customer what do you mean break it in I put gas in it and ran it at full speed
I gotta get me one now, u sold me bro😊
That’s what im getting next im getting the same color. My new jato ran good yesterday I retune it
whats up my fellow JATO nitro Brother!! I highly recommend you look into the Nitro Slash instead of this one. The nitro slash comes with the 3.3 and is built on the extended chassis when compared to this model. Both are great, but the 3.3 in the nitro slash is worth getting I would say.
@@hybrid32494 I like the slayer pro 3.3 tsm I love 2 speeds
@@hybrid32494 nitro slash is good. I drove one before it’s fast. Same speed is the jato 65. If it has the same engine like the jato it will hit 65mph it goes 50 out of the box it’s got the nitro rustler chassis in it.
@@hybrid32494 and they flip a lot
I like my jato better
This is a Quality Video. Thank You
Great video📹🎥 information
Classic is king!
Even the current 100% all electric RC market can't kill the longest running name in NITRO. The Traxxas Nitro Rustler baby!! Sometimes 1-speed is all you need, ahahaha.
@@hybrid32494 one speed baby!

@@hybrid32494. Stripped diff baby! Haha gotta yell that at them next time!!!!
I Bought one from a guy with a 3.3 trx is this stock or was it swapped?
hey bro! how you doing! It has to be an upgraded swapped in motor. The nitro rustler was always shipped with the 2.5 motor, never had a 3.3 in it. Must have been an upgrade.
Either The Nitro Rustler Or Jato 3.3 is what I’m get soon amainHobbies has them.
What are the differences between the nitro rustler and the jato?
The Jato motor is 3.3 vs the rustler 2.5. The platform is very similar 👍
Isn’t the traxxas nitro sport just the same car body with just a different engine
Just because a chassis is old does not mean that it is not any good it just means if it works good then it is good !!!!!!!!!
@@hybrid32494 it's all good
Were can i buy an upgrade motor
If you were closer I would probably send you my classic 2.5 t-maxx
I love t maxx 3.3 soo much.
@@hybrid32494 ok man, will give that a try and see how it goes
@@hybrid32494 I won’t smash it just yet then lol
Update: Richening one turn seemed to do the trick, it ran like a champ. I leaned a bit but not too much, afraid making too drastic changes would put me back in the negative. Also, did not run Traxxas fuel this time so I’m not sure if that played a part too. Thanks bro!
t maxx 3.3 number one best rc truck ever and 1/15 e revo vxl number two and nitro rustler number three and rustler vxl
