Hey Garret, would love to see a video about how to incorporate elements to make your interior look less “dated” but still keep the dated. Like how to modernize an old interior by renewing small parts or changing colours instead of replacing everything, something more durable/sustainable 😊

I thought gray was out a while ago. I was looking at house listings locally just for giggles. And the minute one popped up with gray interior I just was repulsed. It does look so incredibly outdated. It looks like a cheap flip house. It’s the gray flooring. That is the absolute worst. Instant turn off for me anyway.

Personally I prefer the English bulldog style myself. It is NEVER dated; it is NOT a fad; it is perfect for everyone! It grunts though 😁

English country is my go to design style. This is what 1980s interior design magazines did to me. ❤
I have a lot of the furniture my folks bought in the 50's and still love it. My mom used to call it "early American" I also have some things from my grandparents and great-great grandparents. I would generally call my style eclectic world travel. I agree 100% with the gray phase. My house is gray inside and out and I can't wait to start painting as I find it depressing. I love seeing Cornelius in the videos and you can really see how much he is loved. Thanks for another amazing video.

Yes!! I inherited pieces too. I think i just got the go ahead to use them now.
You re a man after my own heart!!! The English Style....which mixes the best of antic french pieces into it so light- handed.....combined and lived in with beautyful dogs ...or cats .( All my animals are beautiful to me!)...is so worth investing in!!! And it will never go out of style, because You can bring in some contemporary or modern pieces, if You want, without having to change the whole style! Or go really antic , Grandpa- Style . With leather chairs and a library...or whimsical and quirky...with elements of hobbies or passions woven into.....or feminin and elegant, with a lot of silver, or gold, china patterns...The decor can be changed, but the bigger quality- furnitures are timeless, and can be styled in different modi......This is a style for life!!!
I am burn out on Modern Farmhouse! Over done! I raised in farm house, looked nothing like a farm house! Mod Colonial sounds refreshing!

1. If you choose to get more babies, I can’t wait to meet them. I love that you choose rescues and give them the best lives ever. You and your husband are saints.
2. I love design and have a good eye. I recently redid my childhood home after my dad died and I inherited it. An actual farmhouse in the middle of cornfields in Indiana (but no word signs). So, not saying I can’t use advise, but I kinda want to book time with you to talk design and hang out because you’re awesome and I want to pretend that we’re friends IRL. That weird?

Good news on the Modern Colonial! I just did my siding and trim in the style. Even found a vintage brass eagle for my black door. I’ve always loved the style. I can mix some of my inherited colonial furniture pieces in. 👍❤️🐩

First off hugs to Cornelius as he is adorable 🥰 I'm so glad Farmhouse is on the way out like Tuscan. If I see one more barn door or farmhouse sink or ship lap I will scream! I never got the chalet style vibe as I live on an island but i do appreciate. Also I can't deal with cottage decor as I grew up in a bedroom that looked like a showroom at Laura Ashley. To me anything cottage style looks grandma home unless you like in the Cotswold region of England. Funny when mentioned Chalet style. I was at my cousins the other day, she was showing me her Pinterest board that had a frame houses on it and we were talking about the A-frames at Lake Tahoe. Perfect for chalet style. Now when you say words like colonial or early American or Mediterranean or Tuscan I just cringe because I am old enough to remember all that. I grew up with early American maple furniture and then as I became an adult, Mediterranean was a style, big huge dark clunky carved horrors, and then in the 90s Tuscan kitchens were all the rage, no no no no. I know all the styles are always updated, but just the names make my hair stand up.
You're not just professionally trained designer ,but ,also, a designer with a lot of common sense in your design ideas. And that makes YOU a cut above the rest,Garrett!

In my region there are a lot of upscale McMansion neighborhoods that were built in the 1990s and many of those homes have a Colonial / traditional Southern architecture. When you look at pictures of them on Zillow, etc., so often the rooms look frozen in time; they're *nice*, but the furniture, decor, window treatments, paint colors are very dated. They sort of convey, "Look, I spent a crap ton of money on buying and furnishing this house in 1995 and I'm never spending another penny on it." . New Colonial would be a fabulous update for many homes from that era.

Any ideas on how to choose a style that fits your home? Like you too said, it doesn't make sense to me to go for a farmhouse or cabin style when your house is just in a normal town, not anywhere near the countrsyside or the woods. Also, I don't want to choose only one style, that would feel too much like a "theme park", too. But if you mix everything you like it might get too eclectic. I don't know where to start. 😂

Oh, no. I relate to modern organic. It’s ok. I do know my limitations (I cannot pull a room together) and use a designer. She pushes me and I believe keeps me current but keeps to what I like. That said, when a style you like is no longer “on trend” it becomes harder to find what you are looking for. Sure, there are deals if you can find them.

You are so welcome! I can’t speak for other channels. I just try to produce as much great content based on my formal education in interior design and what I’ve learned in past decade or so. It’s not an easy subject as there is allot of technical information and science in interior design one must learn and know. So glad I went to school for it.

Garrett, your videos are a dream to me. My living room/kitchen is almost all Amazon and Target finds. My walls are a beautiful blue/gray, the couch and chairs are are gorgeous ivory/beige. Side tables are wood/black iron, my floor lamps are black iron with Edison bulbs, and I have some woven baskets on the floor. I can hear shudders coming from Garrett and a lot of the audience here, but its what I can afford, (I'm a widow on Social. Security) , and I truly love my home.
I also truly love looking at how others decorate their homes, so I feel that Garrett snd a few other home decor influencers are friends.
Garrett, with the loss of Linus and Albert, do you find that Cornelius is more affectionate and perhaps a bit clingy?
Thanks so much! Cornealius is doing very well. He is still as affectionate as he has always been. He’s never been overly clingy. He loves being with us but also enjoys having some alone time throughout the day.

I've loved English country for decades. I like the "inspired by" idea though - or it could end up being the next "farmhouse" trend. Never liked gray everything. I struggle with depression and like a brighter and lighter vibe.

I got a grey sofa because the overstuffed brown (boring) one sucked up way too much space. I do like cottage core, but with a minimalist blend. My house is a cape and I hate the cape decorations because we live nowhere near the beach. It feels fake. I'll check out English country. I hate floral decorations. I hope Cornelius is getting extra love since the death of his brothers. Cornelius sits like my dog...when she feels like it.
. I said I couldn’t go through another loss, but Cornelius is such a love bug, he makes me want to chance it again.
Get two so they can have a friend and if puppies grow up together. They have a fuller life that way in my opinion.

If you like Boucle and can handle its delicacy don’t deprive yourself just because it isn’t currently the most popular trend. Trends come and go. What you like is more important than what’s on trend unless one plans on continually buying and replacing.

I hate blonde 1950’s or late 50’s it feels like a bad childhood . I just want furniture that had class. Real wood made in USA with no press board… etc.
I just spent nearly 2k for a pair of new nightstands with drawers. Came last week. Cheaply made. The finish is shoddy. One has a long crack down the center and the other has something wrong with the bottom drawer where it will only open about 3". Of course, I immediately contacted them and have yet to hear back what they plan on doing. I'd buy a pair of used nightstands, that are a better quality, but when I think about what could have been stored in them - ummm, no. 😲
How about a truly timeless, non-trendy style ? I dont have the budget or energy to follow trends .
