Regarding store bought art - I did buy many years ago two little Trompe l'oeil prints depicting goods in a pantry - they are really nice and well done - not tacky. Well - years later - I after redoing my kitchen - I put one in each corner cabinet glass door. I decided to track down the artist who's name was in the corner and when I found her - she was thrilled - she asked if she could use my photos in her shows and said she had never had anyone contact her to let her know her art had a positive influence. That made me a little sad and now I try my best - if I have a print that I really love - I will try to contact the artist to let them know the positive impact their art has had.
I bought three lovely prints from a local artist (Maude studios) of a peach, a pomegranate, and a strawberry, and hung them in my kitchen. She was absolutely thrilled, artists thrive on knowing they contributed beauty and joy to the world. ❤️
As an artist, truly the BEST feedback I get is when people send me pictures of my art in their homes. I have a few clients that have whole walls of my stuff, and I’ve got many that will think to tag me even if the point of the post wasn’t to share the art, but the art just happens to be in the background. It is so deeply validating and invigorating to see our work out in the wild, sharing that with someone is truly a kindness and a gift! Thank you guys for doing that it’s really amazing of you and no doubt showing them that they have a positive impact helps them continue creating! I love this
No! Say it ain’t so! I LOVE those couches! The ones with the cup holder, remote control holder and phone charger is my dream sofa! Add the reclining feature and I’m a happy gal!
I have three throw pillows. One is round. I sleep on them when I nap on the sofa. I believe if it isn't comfortable enough to sleep on, it doesn't belong.
Absolutely! Every sofa in my house MUST be sleep-worthy. We had friends who didn’t have a comfortable seat in their house. Everything was very chic, though. Visiting them left us with sore backs.
Ok. I just love you. Ok that's said. I love decorating. I rip things apart and start from scratch. I love shopping for ceiling floors wallls counter tops. Matching colors. Being creative. All styles but I love victorian . Like my fireplace looks like a fireplace in a mansion. I do have a good size house. So it really works. And I love gorgeous lead crystal chandelier s. Yes my home is very nice. Lol my 1 bathroom is very goth. Black toilet sink with beautiful green marble walls
Thanks so much! I appreciate the support. I’m thinking of something for your situation to make a video about. We were just brainstorming about it a few days ago.
My tiny condo does not have a lot of room for art. But I used my doors. The bathroom door has a beautiful art deco mirror. The living room closet I took a red vest from China with an incredible back design. Put it on a dole and hung it. The bedroom has a framed photo of rugs I took in Tunisia. I still have art on my walls. An old Peter Hunt Silk screen I bought in 1970. Some more of my photographs, and a lot of other things like a big Mexican vase with a round bottom, hanging with a hanger and a rope.
i'm so glad i'm not fighting this battle alone. This trend breaks my heart everyday, since i dont have space to get that furniture and seeing people who can ruin them that way is such a pain...
I really enjoy seeing MCM decor when it is tasteful and not Sputnik crazy. With that said, I grew up in the 60's and remember when my mother thought it would be a good idea to staple a green shag carpet below the chair rail in the family room. Simply an unforgettable vision. Hahaha. 😮
Yesterday, I psychically picked up on your comment today about decor giving off that office vibe. I was thinking the same thing while looking at some depressing residential decor. That's the last thing I want to see at home. I want cozy!
Hi Garrett, This is a hilarious episode! Thank you once again. We have been buying wall art from artists we find at regional art shows. We used to purchase art from an excellent art gallery in Toronto (since we needed direction), but the owner retired. We decided to trust our own taste and judgment - of course, our gallery owner had taught us a great deal about art. While some of the artists whose work we bought from the gallery are quite notable, the pieces purchased from local artists are exceptionally well executed and beautiful in their own right. We have found that artists are delighted to get commissions. One artist we found a few years ago has gained considerable prominence since, and we are delighted to showcase her work. I also have a charcoal sketch of a young boy’s face given to me nearly 50 years ago by a friend from university residence who was enrolled in the fine arts programme. I recently discovered she has become world-renowned and fetches into the six figures for her work! Her little sketch is now sporting a new, and much better frame! 🇨🇦
Well, I stand across the room and throw the pillows in the general direction of the couch. Sometimes they may land on the corner. I don't care. But yeah, a whole line of pillows on the corner. It's just weird. I also don't like the severe pillow chop right in the middle either. Never did understand that one at all. I only have two throw pillows.
I think you can make a real personality statement if you think outside the box with art pieces. I have a beautiful item of,circa art deco, sheet music framed that I love.
The problem i have with pillows is the need for them. The distance from the bend of the knee to the base of my back makes it necessary to have a couple if pillows to be comfortable.
Agreed about the grey. We've recently painted the walls in our main rooms and stairwells grey. They were previously a warm white. We chose grey deliberately, because we have a lot of colourful artwork and furniture and also a lot of wood accents, so we wanted a neutral colour for the walls. I'm loving how the grey not only complements the furniture and artwork (and the woodwork! OMG. Grey + wood looks wonderful) but that it looks so classy and refined with the white trim (skirting boards, doors and window frames). There is almost no other grey in our furnishings or artwork. It's purely a neutral, and it works well that way. Garrett, you've been a very, very useful channel to watch to help us with some choices and to confirm us in other choices we'd already made. Also sometimes, you've called us out as we hadn't made the choices you would have made, but we still love that for us. You're great, Garrett. By the way, I think thanks to your influence, we've painted our bedroom a deep, dark blue and it looks fabulous. I think you (and others, to be fair) taught us not to be afraid of a dark colour on the walls.
I have some beautiful throw pillows that were really expensive and look expensive too. Conclusion I became obsessed with keeping them perfect because I never want to have to rebuy those pillows ever again, and when someone uses them to just lay down on them I get agressive on the inside but tell myself ‘oh my god those are pillows they literally use them for their purpose don’t get unreasonable’ and… yeah… they are really nice to look at, but they are really unnessecary as my two couches have good support. Don’t be like me with the pillows guys I just created a really dumb problem for myself 😅😅😅
We have found some great artwork at resale stores. Most of our artwork is from resale. I have also bought original art from an artist, but I can’t afford to do that often.
LOL 😂 I would think you would walk into that GREEN kitchen and say, "I love that for you." I just finished redoing my apartment. I ordered a very pretty gray sofa. Sort of an art deco style. (It is comfortable) However, it's gray/blue. So I had to change my colors. 😮 So, then I accented with blues, golds/silver. It actually came out very pretty. BTW.. My silver/gray pillows rest flat. 😁 You're a delight, thank you for all you do.
I’m a new subscriber to your channel here. I must say I love your views on decorating and your sense of humor is just what makes it so much fun. I also love the fact that, like me you live in Las Vegas!
In Phoenix people buy little houses to flip and put in grey tile floors. Then people are stuck with these floors. You are so right! Most of the houses are from the 40s, 50s and 60s and have cool cement floors- some are even dark green, rust red or caramel brown. They also pull out all the plants and fill the yard with rocks. I think you have touched a nerve!😂❤
These people make the Environment even dryer and hotter...and flipping ist a greedy way of making the worst of the housing Problem....Just my opinion.....!!!
Make your own Throw pillows filling. You can turn a pillow cover inside out. Sew the end 2 inches longer than your throw pillow. Cut off extra. Turn back and fill. Those pillows that didn’t work out? Wash them, rip open and overstuff those pillows. This works for up to 20 x 20 pillows. I use hypoallergenic covers so you can wash things. Put that throw pillow you’re gonna fill in the throw pillow cover before stuffing.
Space ship interiors only belong at the Disneyland Star Wars Hotel. When I was in high school in the 80's, I redid my bedroom with banker's gray walls and peach and green accents, like dusty rose/peach corner couch section, green and peach bedspread and bed framing drapes. But I did my gray thing decades ago.
Another funny, informative video, Garrett! I can't deal with cushions on their edges/corners either. I usually get my art as prints on canvas, from online art websites, and framed by an art gallery. However, one time I was walking through a mall and saw a store called The General Store. Caught my attention because I could see they had some candy from back during my younger years like Pez. Well, propped up in this store was a 30"×40" original landscape picture on canvas. Trees, rocks in a stream, grass, mountains in the background. $150 dollars. Beautiful. It was an incredible find. Bought it and then got it framed. I have other prints on canvas that I have framed which have cost substantially more, but my fortunate find when buying candy will always be treasured. So, just like love, sometimes you find things (like art) in the most unexpected places!(By the way, I used to love watching The Jetsons!) Take care, Garrett!❤
Cup holders in furniture serve a purpose; forewarned of a literal faux pas, one moves swiftly smoothly to the exit of the establishment. Alternatively one could enquire if cup holders are an option and respond accordingly. I have recently moved and am unfamiliar with local furniture stores. Cup holders are a simple way to filter past purveyors of disposable schlock.
Thank you for suggestions to get real art for your walls. My husband and I are both artists, so needless to say we have alot of paintings to change around, we get frames we like and the buy canvases that will fit them for new works. Local art shows are where we sell, you can get huge bargains for real paintings and at the same time help encourage a local artist to finance their supplies for new works.
I am so guilty! My home office was so cubie looking. I loved it but will keep your advice under consideration for my new home. To top it off, I had framed licenses and photos of every loved one on display.
I know somebody who painted the interior of their house, every single room, gray. And it wasn't a light gray either. It was what I would call a medium tone maybe even darker gray. It was like walking into a cave. Well, it's their house and it's a free country, but I found it extremely depressing. And I don't know a single person who put in gray flooring that likes it now. They all hate it. I have gray countertops, but that's about the only gray in my house. well actually, the outside of my house I painted gray. Oops.
I bought 1860’s etchings of farm scenes that were given free in newspapers from the 1860’s. Spend about $100 for many. Then I spent $2000 on framing them. They still look beautiful 24 years later. Live Etsy too for originals from small artists.
What should be illegal is how marvellous you look in your blue sweater! 😉😉. I love your videos always informative but also extremely entertaining. You always bring a warmth to your videos even when you are telling us how illegal some interior design are in some homes. You make my day Garrett and today I really needed you! 👍🤗😘🇨🇦
Agree with all you said, though I've never seen art at my grocery store for sale, haha. And gray interiors, blah. And you don't have to be on an actual space ship, just watch any sci-fi show for interiors. My hubby is always asking for a room to look like the old Star Trek show. Ugh, I don't think he's going to get a Star Trek room. Maybe a purple room with Victorian furniture, but it won't look like Star Trek, haha.
Good Morning Garrett, Thank you for the video today. The spaceship thing really caught my attention, never up for it. Loll the “illegal interior design”, who else can come up with these titles 😍 Have a beautiful week ahead and stay healthy..xx
Hi Garrett, I love you & not surprising your sweater is gorgeous. As are your furnishings. When you sit just right, your shoulder lines up perfectly with the high part {of chair} 🤪 Giving you a Royal look 🥂 I just had to, hopefully, be the one to tell you 😏 see you in the next one. Xoxome,Bon EKA CA USA 🌲
Hello 👋 I personally like photography so I take pics and have it blown up and framed. I love gray paired with wood tones one of my favorite looks although I barely have anything gray in my home. Great video 😊
Okay, regarding the ballerina pillows, what was up with the TWO coffee tables in that photos? I like those spaceship chairs, but they'd look better as ottomans after being castrated. And yes, I continue to pray away the grey. It seems to be working.
While his expertise is undeniable and he has no shortage of well rounded, accurate, educational details to explain any assertion he makes, my absolute favorite reasons Garrett will ever give for design advice is “I don’t like it” I lol every time, it’s so funny. Also thanks for reppin the artists and our prints! Some prints are $400, and often they are worth it, but honey if you have any taste whatsoever you can find an artist with good $20 prints, and you’ll be helping them start out on a very arduous journey. It feels really good to buy art from a real artist in your city, and we will think of you when we pay our rent or buy more canvas or whatever. It’s a direct investment into keeping your town cool. On a serious note, if you have chosen to “decorate” by putting a bunch of books into stacks on the floor in your home, that is a felony; and if it’s more than 25 and you never intend to read them, that is a capital offense. Books you proudly display (on a proper shelf, we aren’t barbarians) because you at least want ppl to _think_ you read them is only a misdemeanor, with reductions in your sentence if you genuinely _want_ to read it, but you haven’t installed your bathtub yet and that’s cutting into your reading time etc etc Books, those square stacks of papers, are great hiding places for insects and vermin to hide, to nest, and to thrive and keeping them on the floor like that will ensure that your floors and corners stay dirty and dark and lead to pests and mold problems. 🏃🏻💨👮🏼♀️👩🏼⚖️🏛️📚 👩🏼💼⛓️🔐
Excellent as always. I hate seeing pillows with just a karate chop but also too many pillows. I'd rather hang a child's drawing than some Target or IKEA artwork. Mass production of cheap fast home decor is not chic. Every home should be a statement about the homeowner and not look staged. I laughed over spaceship design - so true!!! And just say no to all grey - and lately I've seen all brown is just as bad. Just love your videos!! 🌴☀️🦩☺️😊🥰❤️🥰❤️🥰❤️
Thank you Garrett for addressing department store art. So many other options, right! And yes, lumbar pillows are awesome- beautiful and functional. Loved this video - and your humor. 😘
3:35 Because the 80’s called and some folks didn’t get the message on their answering machine. Yes, it’s a time warp, not sure who continues to follow this channel & current design is still doing that 😂but the if it makes you that happy do you 🤷🏽♀️
I love gray and my house that we just bought is all gray. It's a little depressing but its brand new and doesn't need new anything. So in 10 years I'll change the wall color and do some other stuff.... sadly our couches were gray from our old place and they fit perfectly😂 i can't escape the gray!
Hi- just thought I would reply as you mentioned waiting ten years. Unfortunately, we never know what may happen between now and ten years. If you know you want to make a change, you should start implementing it, and enjoy it now/in the near future. Hopefully, you would then have many years to enjoy 'the fruit of your labors'.🙂
@@GarrettLeChic thank you. It's a great house for us and the view out the huge living room windows is east across horse and cattle pastures to these big snowy mountains where i get to sit on my couch and watch the sun rise every morning. Sooooo, gray inside but all green and gold and snowy peaks glowing outside.
@@ShelleybutyoucancallmeShell super broke currently from buying the house so even new paint isn't in the budget. If we never get there i guess it won't matter😅 I love the place, we just have way too much gray right now. It's ok though. Garrett gives me so much joy just knowing there's other stuff to be done in a home even if i can't afford it right now!
@@raedorin979Oh, I understand! Well, you'd be surprised what little pops of color can do with lots of gray 'surround'! Colored glass bowl, or vase etc. Enjoy your new home!🙂

In one of these pictures showed one of a cristal blue acryl....that would be a nice surprise for her!!! Do You, or does anyone know, how these are called? I am not from the US, so I might find it in an italian designer store!!! Than You for Your excellent advice...as allways!!!❤
😂haha…. Pillows on the side were popular 80’s 90’s…..but mainly small satin pillow….but there was not a dozen of them just one….😮 not sure if the overboard side pillows are legal ???? Looks like an illegal turn…. And for that write them tickets 🎫 lol…

Local art shows are where we sell, you can get huge bargains for real paintings and at the same time help encourage a local artist to finance their supplies for new works.
Yep. I am waiting for the local art shows this summer. I think the hunt is also part of the fun ❤
You are so welcome!
Gray cabinets in my small rental. No painting allowed. I feel like I’ve been swallowed into an abyss! Beige/camel accent pieces… I’m saved!!!
😊😊😊
Hahahahahaha. You made me laugh so hard. Your comments are priceless!😂😂❤ just love you !
Thanks so much! Happy that you are enjoying. 😊😊😊
Oops.
We moved into a gray house. Inside and out 😢 I refer to it as cell block C. In the process of lightening up the interior paint
Also, gray floors look yucky.
I bought 1860’s etchings of farm scenes that were given free in newspapers from the 1860’s. Spend about $100 for many. Then I spent $2000 on framing them. They still look beautiful 24 years later. Live Etsy too for originals from small artists.
Bless me Garrett, for I have sinned! I have 3 pieces of art that I bought from Lowe's! I promise to banish them forever!
And avoid the near occasion to buy any more from Lowe’s!😂
@@kathrynbaker5188 Mea culpa mea culpa!!

Love the shout out to local artists and artisans! Subscribed.
Awesome! Welcome to the channel. It’s great to have you as a part of our very valued subscriber family.😊😊😊
Lol 😂 agree no pillow should be on its corner like doing a plie
The LeChic decorating laws! I love it!
Right?!
Okay, I'm at the all cool gray. I love cool gray too but it reminds me of a mausoleum, like the movie "Phantasm". Skeery.
Garrett please 🙏 make a video on interior ( indoor ) gardens ... where every part of the house is overlooking, the garden
Minute 4:28 may have the pillow on its corner, but can we talk about those tragic drapes?!
🤣🤣🤣
You are super sassy today! Love it! 😘
Yay! Thank you!
What should be illegal is how marvellous you look in your blue sweater! 😉😉. I love your videos always informative but also extremely entertaining. You always bring a warmth to your videos even when you are telling us how illegal some interior design are in some homes. You make my day Garrett and today I really needed you! 👍🤗😘🇨🇦
Thanks so much Carole! It makes me happy that you are enjoying the channel. 🌸🌸🌸
Pillows on their corner is no good! I'm not a fan of karate chopped pillows either. A nice fluff is good. Love all of this from you!❤
Thanks so much! I appreciate you sharing.
I love your commentary on grays - they must have some warmth or they can be depressing! Thank you so much for your thoughts. ❤
My pleasure! I appreciate your support.
I love this video! It's fun to see what your hot buttons are (and they can trigger me too)..
Glad you are enjoying!
Good Morning Garrett,
Thank you for the video today.
The spaceship thing really caught my attention, never up for it.
Loll the “illegal interior design”, who else can come up with these titles 😍
Have a beautiful week ahead and stay healthy..xx
🤣🤣🤣 we want to give great information in a fun and entertaining way! Have a great week.
@@GarrettLeChic and I love that for us, thank you!!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Love you and your channel! 💛
Thank you so much!!
1:40 hahaha 🤣 too funny! You work so hard, I love your channel and I look forward to your next one❤
Thank you so much 😁
Hi Garrett, I love you & not surprising your sweater is gorgeous. As are your furnishings. When you sit just right, your shoulder lines up perfectly with the high part {of chair} 🤪 Giving you a Royal look 🥂 I just had to, hopefully, be the one to tell you 😏 see you in the next one. Oh thank you! Very nice of you.
Hello 👋 I personally like photography so I take pics and have it blown up and framed. I love gray paired with wood tones one of my favorite looks although I barely have anything gray in my home. Great video 😊
Thanks for sharing!😁😁😁
4: 32, look at the curtains !!! and the orchid. Not GarrettLeChic Family.
Oops! My pillows are sitting on their corners...
Thanks so much for your great advice and wonderful imagery. You're a treasure!
Wow, thank you!
Okay, regarding the ballerina pillows, what was up with the TWO coffee tables in that photos? I like those spaceship chairs, but they'd look better as ottomans after being castrated. And yes, I continue to pray away the grey. It seems to be working.
Thank you for these fabulous tips! Bye for now♡
You are so welcome!🤩🤩🤩
Minimum of 3 years for cushions on the corners Garrett, don't let these criminals off lightly!
🤣🤣🤣
Thank goodness I'm law abiding. I was worried.
🤣🤣🤣
And most people hang their art too high on the wall.
Yes! This makes me crazy!
Including me, but I fixed it.😬
Thanks for the tips. I need camel with my ugly cool grays!
👍👍👍
Books you proudly display (on a proper shelf, we aren’t barbarians) because you at least want ppl to _think_ you read them is only a misdemeanor, with reductions in your sentence if you genuinely _want_ to read it, but you haven’t installed your bathtub yet and that’s cutting into your reading time etc etc
Books, those square stacks of papers, are great hiding places for insects and vermin to hide, to nest, and to thrive and keeping them on the floor like that will ensure that your floors and corners stay dirty and dark and lead to pests and mold problems. 🏃🏻💨👮🏼♀️👩🏼⚖️🏛️📚 👩🏼💼⛓️🔐
😊😊😊🤣🤣🤣
Excellent as always. I hate seeing pillows with just a karate chop but also too many pillows. I'd rather hang a child's drawing than some Target or IKEA artwork. Mass production of cheap fast home decor is not chic. Every home should be a statement about the homeowner and not look staged. I laughed over spaceship design - so true!!! And just say no to all grey - and lately I've seen all brown is just as bad. Just love your videos!! 🌴☀️🦩☺️😊🥰❤️🥰❤️🥰❤️
Thanks so much! I’m glad you are enjoying. 🤩🤩🤩
Thank you Garrett for addressing department store art. So many other options, right! And yes, lumbar pillows are awesome- beautiful and functional. Loved this video - and your humor. 😘
You are so welcome! Glad you are enjoying the channel. 😊😊😊
You made me laugh several times today!!! Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!😊😊😊
Pillows on their corner 😮 bad!!!
Ooh. 😮 love that frame tv. Where did you get the frame part? ❤
Deco TV Frames
3:35 Because the 80’s called and some folks didn’t get the message on their answering machine. Yes, it’s a time warp, not sure who continues to follow this channel & current design is still doing that 😂but the if it makes you that happy do you 🤷🏽♀️
🤣🤣🤣
Gray floors.... OMG, almost nothing is worse....Great video 👍🏻
Thanks so much!
Thumbs-up for the thumbnail alone 😅
Thank you!🤣🤣🤣
Illegal! 100% agree!
🤣🤣🤣
I love gray and my house that we just bought is all gray. It's a little depressing but its brand new and doesn't need new anything. So in 10 years I'll change the wall color and do some other stuff.... sadly our couches were gray from our old place and they fit perfectly😂 i can't escape the gray!
If you like it and enjoy the house that’s all that matters.
If we never get there i guess it won't matter😅
I love the place, we just have way too much gray right now.
Just watched it, and You were soooo right 100 percent!!! Another question....I hate these ,,Italian Designer Plastic Stools"... But a friend of mine loves them! In one of these pictures showed one of a cristal blue acryl....that would be a nice surprise for her!!! Do You, or does anyone know, how these are called? I am not from the US, so I might find it in an italian designer store!!! Than You for Your excellent advice...as allways!!!❤
My pleasure! Thanks for your support.
Some minimalists design looks like this.
I just love you! I’m more into a smoky black with white and grey though.
Thanks so much! I appreciate your support.
LOL Agree! Thanks for the chuckle :-)
Glad you enjoyed it
😂haha…. Pillows on the side were popular 80’s 90’s…..but mainly small satin pillow….but there was not a dozen of them just one….😮 not sure if the overboard side pillows are legal ???? Looks like an illegal turn…. And for that write them tickets 🎫 lol…
LOL 🤣 Loving the sassy Garrett attitude. So funny.
Yay! Glad you are enjoying. 😊
I love your videos!!
