Most rappers today wouldn't even be singing if it wasn't for Kanye's 808s and Heartbreak. Some of the biggest artists of the past decade like Drake, Travis Scott, Lil Uzi Vert, Juice Wrld and numerous others have sighted 808s as a big influence. The album was very controversial when it released, because of how different it sounded. Heartless is the big hit song from that album.

A lot of the college dropout is a commentary on contradictions in the US when it comes to racism, schooling, and poverty. He's not saying you should drop out of college, what he's saying is that college isn't always the answer and the systems in place consistently oppress POC

Older Kanye definitely depended on samples but based on what you said I think you would love “Yeezus” and “The Life of Pablo”. A lot of electronic production and interesting fusions of genres. New Slaves, Hold My Liquor, Father Stretch My Hands pt.1 & pt.2, and Highlights are just a few off the top of my head.

If u want originality listen to Runaway the full 9 minute album version, also I don't understand your critique of kanye reusing samples, 90% of hip hop pre like 2005-2010 was based on sampling and making it core of the song and making drum patterns around it, the only difference between kanye is that he was one of the first to sample soul and the vocals and pitch them and incorporate them into the beat. The reason why kanye is so beloved is because during 2004 and 5 he really a turning point in hip hop and unlike u said he was definitely a positive influence and one of the first mainstream "be yourself" type rappers in an era swamped by gangster, aggressive street rap or people still making 90's era music.

Great info! Yep, I really should have looked at his rise in a historical context. I'm not sure I'd have realized what you're saying here, but I can tell you're right, because I can see how music has changed from the early 2000s until the end of the decade. I wouldn't have put that on Kanye, but now I see it. Thank you!

a fact about your first comment: Kanye created the album 808s & Heartbreak without using any significant sample and becoming the most influential album of the last 15 years, I do not say this, the most specialized critics such as Rolling Stone say it. This is to show that beyond his producing with samples (used for a purpose and not as a resource btw) he can create a completely original sound ahead of his time.

It really does take a different kind of ear to be able to pick apart various sections of a song, and create a sample that has its own life to it outside of the original song. I’m not the biggest Kanye fan but his ear for music and his ability to create an entirely new song out of an existing one is something I’ve never seen replicated

You should watch a video on how these samples get put together. Its a lot more than just taking a song and putting it over drums, especially in the case of this song. Its 3 sections spliced into one from completely different sections of the song. I get that you dont understand how production in hiphop works very much but damn that was frustrating 😭 still love the channel though my man ✌️

While i heavily disagree with your opinion about the creativeness of his sampling, i can see why you would find the beat a bit repetitive. When I first got into kanye, I think i had kind of the same biases as you where his actions/views as a person caused be to be slightly close minded towards him as an artist. Once i listened to his entire discography, my opinion was entirely changed and i wholeheartedly believe he has the greatest discography in all of hip hop. I think part of it is that the music grows on you, and the other part is that he significantly changes his sound on pretty much all of his albums and does it well 90% of the time. I think one album you should definitely try is yeezus. Very energetic and experimental with the beats, which I think you would be able to appreciate.

i mean the samples on his first 3 records were added on and chopped up and pitched up. id say albums like dark fantasy and Ye have more unaltered samples . late registration has jon brion , who’s a multi instrumentalist to add orchestration and other instruments to it alongside kanyes drum tracks and sample chops . but yet again samples are an integral part of hiphop due to the area of where most rappers are from. they couldn’t afford guitars , lessons , pianos etc so they stuck with drum machines and samplers and did what they can. but kanye then collaborated with musicians like mike dean , jon brion and then daft punk who helped fufil kanyes vision as kanye isn’t an instrumentalist

this rick ross verse always gives me chills. Just something about his delivery is absolutely infectious.
Also, I would like to say this is my first time watching your videos - But if you do album reactions, this album has a very cool and interesting overarching story/theme - All about Kanye's experience rising to fame, and the internal struggles it's caused. Songs like this, and some other singles are very good on there own, but also have a distinct purpose in the album. Sometimes he will be extremely arrogant, selfish, and egotistical in a track (and I'm not saying he isn't that), but it's more self aware than you'd think if you have only heard the song on it's own and not how it fits into the theme of the album.

It’s funny you reacted to Weiland’s song “Temptation” just before this, because the section in the middle of this song where it switches to a guitar solo and piano is what inspires Weiland to add switchups halfway into songs with long guitar or synth lead solos

Ah, I see what you're saying. Thanks for telling me the specific thing. You may be right, but ignoring the race of black republicans also ignores the fact that the system we live in was designed and built by white people for white people. Not taking the racism of the system into account seems like a worse sin than pointing out that a black person being a republican reflects them buying into and supporting a racist system that is designed to cripple them and everyone like them. Not arguing with you, just explaining my point a little better. (Also, I have a really negative opinion or the current republican party, so I tend to be a bit hyperbolic about it.)

@@papasquat08 I understand the point you’re trying to make, but as someone who is rather apolitical, I think that you could at least word it better. Not all black republicans are brainwashed, and I also think simple low-resolution ideas like that remove peoples humanity and freedom from the situation. Even if you feel like minorities can’t be republicans, isn’t you actually voicing that opinion and trying to make that decision for minorities playing into this same oppressive culture you’re referring to? If nothing else, I would just say attack people on the actual ideas, but leave race out of it. The same reasons a white person would be a republican are the same reasons any other race would. If you think Kanye is stupid politically, you have every right to voice that opinion, I would just leave race out of it.

i suggest you watch this video ruclips.net/video/L1ewjryaoSE/видео.html&ab_channel=Sandurz (only a 7min video)
it explains how the beat was made and its not as simple as just cutting out a piece of a song and looping it, its actually sliced/chopped from completely different parts of the sample to turn it into the loop.
I love your videos but as a producer myself this was hard not to get a bit annoyed lol (i understand its your opinion)
trust me sampling is not as easy as it seems and is almost like a science especially when its of this complexity

Yeah, sorry to frustrate you! I'll watch that! I would love to learn more about the production side. Also, there have been some great comments on this video that have given me a better perspective on Ye and what he did for music in the 00s.
