This confirms my suspicions....I just picked up a used leaf blower and put a bit of gas in it, but didn't have any oil on hand. I bought an 02 Suzuki rm250 a couple years ago. The guy sold it to me with straight gas, it wasn’t mixed. Unaware I took it out for a rip and first ride I welded the piston to the cylinder. Had to use an air chisel to get it out. Now I always drain the gas when I get new bikes haha
No doubt man... Thing is, some people will get pissy if you say 'no', especially if they're good neighbors and you've known them quite a while. Even otherwise reasonable people. Imagine asking your neighbor if you can borrow his wife :)

bro, will the grass cutter be damaged immediately if it is not fitted with 2t oil, there is a fool that borrowed our grass cutter he put gasoline without 2t and used, the next day it is difficult to pull the starter
If you're oblivious enough to run your 2-stroke engine on gas only, with no oil, you might be able to still use it. As long as it isn't seized (engine will turn over) then you can use a lot more oil in the gas. If you normally use 50:1 gas/oil mixture, try 20 or 25:1. It will be smoky, but may allow you to keep using your equipment. The extra oil will help to seal the leaky piston rings. Expect fouled spark plugs more often though. Or better yet, put oil in the gas like you're supposed to :)
@@adzlee8897 If "spluttery" at full throttle and no-load is what you're talking about, 2-stroke power equipment such as saws and trimmers are supposed to do that. With no load on the engine (just running the chainsaw or trimmer at full throttle in the air, not sawing wood or trimming weeds) the engine will run very fast and the fuel-air mixture will go rich, causing the engine to "4-stroke", which means it won't fire evenly on every rotation. Perfectly normal--putting a working load on it slows the engine down, and it runs the way it should, firing evenly on every rotation. Pull the saw out of the wood at full throttle, it speeds up and starts 'burbling' again, with excess fuel (rich mixture) protecting the engine from over-revving and destroying itself. Clean or replace spark plug, and use the recommended fuel-oil mixture (50:1) and just use the tool normally. Fiddle around with carburetor to suit personal taste :)
@@adzlee8897 Since you used a bit of oil, then it's possible that the cylinder and piston are salvageable. Replacing the piston rings with new ones and running it in carefully with lots of oil for your first few tanks might very well get it going nearly as good as new. If you don't want to dismantle the engine to replace the rings, try running it with more oil, such as a 25:1 or 30:1 mixture instead of the customary 50:1. The extra oil will reduce leakage between the ring and cylinder wall.

Thanks so much for the video. I watched this video cause my rotary engine takes 2 stroke oil with fill up. Gave me a better understanding of how things work.
The chrome-plated cylinder wall is extremely hard. Done that way for minimum friction and longevity when running with very little oil in the gas (50:1 typically). It will survive for a short time with no oil, largely because the engine already had been run on gas that had oil in it, so there was some oil on the cylinder wall already.
It might work but I think we are taking a risk! My experience goes back to around 1969 with a 'Cyclemaster', a cyclemotor being one of a type that enjoyed a few years popularity in the immediate post-WW2 years. In those days, we might sometimes encounter a 2-stroke machine, a kind of hand-operated dispenser that was supposed to provide the correct fuel/oil ratio. Inconvenient as it was, I generally took a gallon can to the petrol(gas) station with the required amount of oil previously added. But, out of laziness I guess, this once I entrusted my motor to the aforemention dispenser. All seemed OK but a mile or two down the road the engine was obviously getting tight and I stopped before it seized. Having wheeled the bike home and added oil, all was well from then on but never trusted the right mix to 'professionals' believing that it was lack of oil on there part that caused the near-seizure!
I bought a used weed eater and rebuilt the whole motor and up graded everything in the motor to where I don’t have to worry about it. I used 100% gas not mixed with anything. And it’s still working like new. And it’s been over a year since I rebuilt it. But I added a self luber to mine
bro, will the grass cutter be damaged immediately if it is not fitted with 2t oil, there is a fool that borrowed our grass cutter he put gasoline without 2t and used, the next day it is difficult to pull the starter
Generally speaking, a 2 stroke engine will idle for a very long time just using straight gas providing it was run previously with the correct fuel to oil ratio. It's called oil migration. The gas burns and leaves most of the oil behind which stays in the engine up to a certain RPM then it moves out the exhaust.
On my 3rd refill for the day on the leaf blower I was a bonehead and grabbed the wrong can sitting right next to the mix, topped off the tank and probably diluted the mix from 1:50 to 1:500. Ran her full blast for 10 minutes before it died. Had ear protection so I didn't hear anything. wtf I thought. Saw the clear gas sloshing around the half full tank and did one of these 😨. I dumped out the gas, refilled with mixed, primed and she started blowing again like nothing happened.
My Yamaha Blaster had a partial meltdown. (Rings seized to piston and a crater in the dome that the overheating sparkplug put there. Got away with not having to split and clean the bottom end and only needed a new same size piston and a simple hone. Whole replacement took under an hour. Air cooled two cycles are a breeze. That piston has since resided as an ashtray. The meltdown was my fault. I ran my already somewhat lean summer jetting in the winter and the air cooled motor and extra stress were too much. +I put it in that state melted the piston and rendered virtually no compression. It had just enough comp for me to start it wide open throttle and limp it home that way. $50 later she was good as new.

It would’ve been nice if you explained if that trimmer can be fixed and what parts needs to be replaced to repair it. I ran a Poulan pro chainsaw on straight gas and it smoked a little bit before dying. Now I don’t know how to fix it !
There is no fixing it. If the engine block is scored like in the video, you can replace everything else and it still won't work. It won't create compression. Just buy a new one.
@@CopperCreekCuts it’s possible to fix it. It would be stupid too since it’s a waste of time and money but it’s possible. A new bore and piston and if there’s anything wrong in the crankcase replace it and it’ll be fine. The carb should still be just fine and the internal combustion chamber is the only damaged equipment
@@moddingdudes7055 thats basically what hes sayin tho. If the engine, cylinder and piston if damaged as such you cant fix it and like u said you can try and replace those parts and possibly get her back up and running.
I imagine these engines are not designed to withstand operating at full throttle continuously.. almost no engine is designed to operate that way.. so I really would be curious to see what one would like if abused till destruction in normal operations instead of just full-throttle continuously.
This video was a waste. He didn't do a break-in period. Just wot trottle on a new engine is a death sentence I used pure gasoline on a 2 stroke engine and never had a problem. Never mind, this one has an oil squirter. Maybe that's why it lasted 😆
In a pinch you can but it is NOT recommended because regular motor oil will usually separate out of the fuel much faster and the viscosity of motor oil can cause the fuel mixture to become too thick and can alter the tune on the engine and it can cause rapid carbon build up. I have done it before with no failures but just to ensure reliability just buy proper 2 stroke oil.
These string trimmer engines turn relatively low rpm even at full throttle, high performance race 2 strokes will rev well over 10,000 rpm for long periods of time and will last a long time. These string trimmer engines are designed to run between 100:1 to 50:1 oil ratio and to be ran full throttle for hours on end, when they design these trimmer engines they have to undergo lots of full throttle endurance testing where they will take a new trimmer and put the correct fuel in it and make sure that it can last for a certain amount of time before selling that particular model to the consumers, if 2 strokes were as fragile as u claim then there wouldn't be any left, u sir are not properly educated about 2 stroke engines, please do some serious research before posting a false comment.
The biggest issue with thick oil mixtures is that you start to alter the viscosity of the fuel and will cause the jetting in the carb to become to lean unless u retune and rich oil mixture will foul plugs much quicker and can clog the spark arrestor screens quickly.
Hey. You are good at engines. But what if i trow some wd40 in a pocked bike . Wd 40+normal fuel. Will it kill it for ever ? Cuz my engine got really hot and then the piston was stuck. It dont moves anymore and i didnt look over it yet. But could it be that its dead for ever ?
My neighbor came over with his brand new chainsaw, asking if I would help him understand why it stopped running. I went after the usual suspects, but when I took out the spark plug, it looked a bit rusted (it should look slightly wet from residual oil). I asked him if he was mixing oil with the gas and he said no. Apparently, he did put plenty of oil in the oiler, but wasn't aware that you also have to add oil to the gas. I also showed him in the instruction manual where it said that failing to put oil in the gas would void the warranty. I checked the compression and it was around 18 psi. Unfortunately, I had to give him the bad news that this was pretty much the end of his brand new chain saw. The good news is that he bought a cheap one. The other bad news is that he also bought the extended warranty... which also does not cover failing to mix oil in with the gas.
Wow! I rebuilt a YZ250 and the cylinder and piston were like this. I knew it was run by previous owner without filter and thought a stone/nut had done this damage. Evidently not this is the exact damage she had. New piston and she's cracking but the cylinder is scored on one side like this. Great video!

I did that to a pocket bike by failing to add oil and the motor’s pretty much dead
Oh no, I am sorry!
next: _what happens when you run a 2 cycle engine on coca cola_ 🤔🤔🤓 science....
LOL I love it!
You have to test more than one to form a conclusion.
No, I am fairly confident I only need to test this one to determine running your 2 mix machine with straight fuel is a bad idea! :D
@@CopperCreekCuts yeah, because no factory has ever produced a single dud.
@@CopperCreekCuts great vid, i have no idea what point this guy is trying to make. Most 2 strokes or all as far as i know. You mix gas and oil. If you go against manufacturers instruction your producing a dud yourself anyway. Lol. Keep it up bro!
Is injection worth it? Or is oil+gasoline good
I apologize, I don't understand the question. I don't have a problem with two stroke equipment, however.
@@CopperCreekCuts i mean that some 2 stroke engines have the auto lubrication which means that i dont have to add oil to the gasoline... i just think that is auto better than mixing up gas.. its okay if u dont understand but i mean for 2 stroke mopeds
Can you repair the engine after?
Yes but you will need a new short block. That is piston and cylinder assembly
I accidentally put lawnmower gas in my boat that did not have oil in it and I burnt approximately 10 gallons and my boat motor survived. Does anybody have any idea how this happened? This guy did not have any oil in it. It was only ethanol, free gas.
I see what you did there. You thought it might not be good to have a gas can next to the motor that you wanted to blow up.
When I saw him put the propane tank next to it… dear lord
We live dangerously on this channel.
Guys mixed up gas cans at work ran straight gas in 2 expensive stihl chain saws is this fixable??
Depends on the where and how much damage. You can try and use a cheap borescope to check the inside out.
i had a buyer who fail to listen after buying my weed eater. i even made him watch me on how to mix the oil in the gas. a week later he called and told me the weed wacker he bought from me the engine seize up. he brough it back to me and during a inspection i discover that he never add any oil to the gas casing score on the cylinder walls and piston. im not sure if there's an language barrier between us or he thinks im full of shit and he knows more than i do.
what my dad sees in mechanic 1+1=2 what i see: x3+y3+z3=k
If that had of been a STIHL weed eater I would've made sure you were capitaly punished, but it was a poulan so I don't really give a shit. Good video though
Haha, too funny!
Nah stop crying and learn to not put plain gas in a 2 cycle and not be a moron
@@CopperCreekCuts it’s possible to fix it. It would be stupid too since it’s a waste of time and money but it’s possible. A new bore and piston and if there’s anything wrong in the crankcase replace it and it’ll be fine. The carb should still be just fine and the internal combustion chamber is the only damaged equipment
@@moddingdudes7055 thats basically what hes sayin tho. If the engine, cylinder and piston if damaged as such you cant fix it and like u said you can try and replace those parts and possibly get her back up and running.
Eeee… earrppp! (Seized).
I imagine these engines are not designed to withstand operating at full throttle continuously.. almost no engine is designed to operate that way.. so I really would be curious to see what one would like if abused till destruction in normal operations instead of just full-throttle continuously.
They are designed for continuous full throttle use. Air cooled by a flywheel fan they are used like this normally
This video was a waste.
He didn't do a break-in period. Just wot trottle on a new engine is a death sentence
I used pure gasoline on a 2 stroke engine and never had a problem. Never mind, this one has an oil squirter. Maybe that's why it lasted 😆
Can we mix normal engine oil for 2t oil
In a pinch you can but it is NOT recommended because regular motor oil will usually separate out of the fuel much faster and the viscosity of motor oil can cause the fuel mixture to become too thick and can alter the tune on the engine and it can cause rapid carbon build up. I have done it before with no failures but just to ensure reliability just buy proper 2 stroke oil.
I was wondering how to qualify for your promotional giveaway? I am a subsriber. Thank you!
why did it start walking away?
Haha, vibrations made it 'walk'.
@@CopperCreekCuts :D
Im surprised it lasted 10 mins
Scary
Agreed!
That's a shame!😞
I think you're done blowed up your weed Wacker. Good job
I think you're right! :D
I think I just destroyed my 2 stroke
Ha...wat did u learn today?...Don't b a Brad..and break ur equipment:-)
LOL Very true!
What mask are you wearing at 0:14?
Elipse half mask respirator: www.amazon.com/shop/coppercreekcutslawncare
Sure...lol
children in africa could have eaten that motor
Yes but no. 2 stroke engines break easily specially with High rev. This engine broke because it had not oil but with oil it wouldn't last longer
I say this with all respect, but that is 100% wrong. I have two stroke engines with hundreds of hours that run high revs. Thank you for watching!
Not true at all.
2 stroke engines are cool but primitive
They are also very inexpensive.
Just because its primitive doesnt mean it's bad, some people prefer simplicity for ease of repair and use.
More oil= more power
To a point....like 12:1
My point is 20:1 makes more power than 50 or 100:1 not just a little either but over 5%
The biggest issue with thick oil mixtures is that you start to alter the viscosity of the fuel and will cause the jetting in the carb to become to lean unless u retune and rich oil mixture will foul plugs much quicker and can clog the spark arrestor screens quickly.
Would have been cooler if you did real time from 8 min mark so we could hear and see.
I will have to next time! :D
I'm surprised it ran that long
Must've been some residual oil from the test run. But yeah it was amazing seeing how long it ran.
@@tier3rd375 I thought exactly the same.
I accidentally ran my moped without oil , ran for 4 hours straight , still runs but just barely
Oh no! Thanks for watching, glad it made it OK!
@@CopperCreekCuts thanks , hopefully a new listing will solve most of my problems
Oh no! :D
It also sounds like the air/fuel ratio became too great in the absence of the premix oil.
Probably started too rich. 40:1 is negligible
Wow! I rebuilt a YZ250 and the cylinder and piston were like this. I knew it was run by previous owner without filter and thought a stone/nut had done this damage. Evidently not this is the exact damage she had. New piston and she's cracking but the cylinder is scored on one side like this. Great video!
Thanks for the comment! that is pretty wild that happened and a great reminder to always check for an air filter! :D
Will replacing the piston of this 2 stoke engine help this dead equipment back to life?
That is why you do let you neighbor borrow your 2 stroke equipment.
I drove my 2 stroke bike for like three days without oil. (It was brand new) haven’t looked at it yet 😅
This broke my little heart....lol
Haha, I don't think even you could save this one! :)
Marathon Watching 4/10/22 An “oil”y video... 😏
Great video, thanks for making it. I would love the echo engraved piston lol.
They are too cool! :D
Looks like that's what my wife did to my weed eater
WOW.. A seized 2stroke engine😂... do you rebulid the seized engine after recording this video?😂.. i appreciate you to record the seized 2stroke engine..
I tossed that puppy in the garbage!
@@CopperCreekCuts i really like 2stroke engine😂
