Played this song at my mother's funeral 4 years ago. I wasn't even sure if she liked it that much and probably noone else from my family ever heard it before. I just played it on speakers once or twice at home when I was taking care of her and she asked what the song is. After I told her, we both paused for like a minute, listened to it together and then went back to doing something else. I didn't really know what she listened to other than happy pop music, so, for some reason, I remembered this one when I was making a playlist for the funeral. It was the most generic moment, not even particularly a happy one, just calm, but because of this song, I remember it. I have trouble keeping memories, and I kind of wish I had a better one, but I'm glad I've got at least something.

It’s impossible to describe the way their music makes you feel. It’s sorrow and joy at the same time. It’s walking alone in the cold and it’s sitting by the fire with your loved ones. It means so much yet it doesn’t ever tell you what it means. It’s amazing

the phrase "I move slow and steady, but I feel like a waterfall" was something I could relate a lot to when I had huge issues with panic attacks. On the outside I looked like everyone else. On the inside it was pure caos. This phrase put my feelings to words. Thankyou!

I can relate to a lof of things described in this song.
Darkness, loneliness, the feeling of winter in the summertime.
    Eternal winter.
The feeling of imprisonment in your own body and mind.
You want to let go of negativity but you are not able to...because you are in a mental prison.
I feel like this when I suffer from depression (I am bipolar)...
Yet I think the track is very beautiful.
It reminds me of what can be like when I am at my worst.
At the same time it reminds me to appreciate life.
I appreciate my life with every aspect

Don't know the backstory to this song, but it seems like an Introverted anthem I think. Nothing is better than being in your own place, feels slow and steady; but it is indeed exhilarating. Something not anyone can understand unless those are the shoes you've been given to wear upon your birth into the world. It is a gift. I can't imagine being so dependent on others for happiness and fulfillment. I don't even know how that would even work compared to the world I get to live in. So may it be.

I remember I would listen to the entire album and it would just bring me to tears. I will never 100% disassociate these songs from that person, but I have learned to appreciate the beauty of the music on it's own merit. I dug this up on Wikipedia for those who might be interested; Albatrosses travel huge distances with two techniques used by many long-winged seabirds: dynamic soaring and slope soaring. Dynamic soaring involves repeatedly rising into wind and descending downwind, thus gaining energy from the vertical wind gradient. The only effort expended is in the turns at the top and bottom of every such loop. This maneuver allows the bird to cover almost 1000 km/day without flapping its wings. Slope soaring uses the rising air on the windward side of large waves. Albatross have high glide ratios, around 22:1 to 23:1, meaning that for every metre they drop, they can travel forward 22 metres. They are aided in soaring by a shoulder-lock, a sheet of tendon that locks the wing when fully extended, allowing the wing to be kept outstretched without any muscle expenditure, a morphological adaptation they share with the giant petrels.

I love OMAM because their songs can be interpreted in so many different ways they can be relatable to any person and their current situation. Their lyrics for me are like words of comfort in trying times. So many words from different songs of theirs touch me deeply or soothe me in a way I can't even describe. In this one Slow and Steady "I move slow and steady past the ones that I used to know", really helps me to get by all these people that I wanted to know but I'll never will... And while everything feels like a waterfall inside me, I move slow and steady past it all. Eventually I'll get there, but while I don't I'll dance with my own shadow.
    So beautiful! Thank you, OMAM.

It makes me want to openly cry because It brings up so much emotion within me, so many different feelings. Happy, sad, overjoyed, scared and all kinds of feelings. The song is very calming to me. I can literally listen to it, sing the lyrics, and block everything everything out of my head. The picture of the beautiful, flying bird, goose, i cannot tell, sorry, is relaxing to me. This song and music video can describe how a lonely/sad person feels. The lyrics represent it with words, and the music video with visuals. The bird is flying alone, slow and steady, across distant, strange lands. Who knows if it will ever join any of the other birds, or if it will continue the trek by itself.

Only now I could see how the video matches the song perfectly!
When we see the bird moving "slow and steady" we may think that it is stopped, but looking closely we notice that it is actually flying. This is what eventually happens when somebody judges us (or when we judge somebody) at first sight. Great idea!

The lights go out, I am all alone
All the trees outside are buried in the snow
I spend my night dancing with my own shadow
And it holds me, and it never lets me go
    I move slow and steady
But I feel like a waterfall
Yeah, I move slow and steady
Past the ones that I used to know
My dear old friend, take me for a spin
Two wolves in the dark, running in the wind
I'm letting go, but I've never felt better
Passing by all the monsters in my head
And I move slow and steady
But I feel like a waterfall
Yeah, I move slow and steady
Past the ones that I used to know
    And I'm never ready
    'Cause I know, I know, I know
    That time won't let me
Show what I want to show
And I move slow and steady
But I feel like a waterfall
Yeah, I move slow and steady
Past the ones that I used to know
    And I'm never ready
    'Cause I know, I know, I know
    That time won't let me
Show what I want to show

Does anyone notice what kind of bird that is? Look up a European stork, the stork most commonly depicted when bringing babies to parents. The bird in this video looks like a European stork with the colors on its wings inverted. Not sure what that means.

The inverted of wings' colours might mean that he s quite different from the others of his kind.and I think that's why he s alone and why he dances with his shadow (I like these lyrics)

Definitely one of the best closing tracks ever! (and I believe not just in my opinion)...
And I wonder if anyone, other than me, thinks that the lyrics are somewhat same to the procession bringing the dead to their final place, the cemetery, and that no matter how, we're going to be left and to leave the one's we love...that somehow this song states the story of man's final journey in this realm...

Ive been having LITTLE TALKS with myself BENEATH MY BED, waiting over SIX WEEKS for this song that I LOVE LOVE LOVE. This video deserves to be seen by well over a THOUSAND EYES... This is one of those songs you can feel deep in YOUR BONES. Weather it's a hike up BLUEBERRY MOUNTAIN, or a visit to your BACKYARD, this song will embed itself into your ORGANS, your heart, brain etc... This is my WINTER SOUND, my MOUNTAIN SOUND, my EMPIRE. This is my YELLOW LIGHT in an ocean of BLACK WATER, because I am only HUMAN, WE all SINK I am a SINKING MAN. It's a SLOW LIFE, and I move SLOW AND STEADY
a PHANTOM follows me as I stare at the SKELETONS covered with ice CRYSTALS near my LAKEHOUSE. I blaze my illegal NUMB BEARS to try and escape the pain as I enter a deep deep SLOOM. I want to be in HAWAII, I want to have this HAPPY SONG with me. I feel this HUNGER, like WOLVES WITHOUT TEETH do. Their DIRTY PAWS follow their KING AND LIONHEART, searching for the I OF THE STORM.
I picture SILHOUETTES of A BOY AND A BIRD, floating on PARTICLES. The boy, JOSIE, is playing with SUGAR IN A BOWL, sadly singing "WERE GETTING OLDER"
This is the power of this song...

It depends on the bird, like the Alpine swifts stay in the air for up to 6 months at a time. The more you flap the more energy you use. They only weight only like a half-pound or less.
