The thing that I love the most about this band, is that all of their songs are so diverse, and their videos are satisfyingly hypnotizing.

I don't know ifanyone will read this. But I just want to say when I was in the Navy I went on a 6 month deployment to the china sea on an aircraft carrier. It was a very stressful time and I felt like I would be trapped on that ship forever.
This song used to give me hope, I listened to it everyday. Knowing I would see a shore again, though I may not know which one. And I found peace and felt that though I was "far from home" in the "salty waves" with jets flying over my head, I was happy. Listening to it now, far from the Navy. I can look back with fondness and renewed strength, knowing I persevered through a difficult time. Thanks OMAM, for an oasis amidst chaos.

Listened to this song almost everyday when I was on my first long term solo trip, backpacking and volunteering in Norway... "And we are far from home/But we're so happy/Far from home, all alone/But we're so happy"... the lyrics just hit home so hard! And now every time I listen to it I can't help but remember all the beautiful nature I saw and amazing people I met, feeling so nostalgic. I can't wait to hit the road again!

Is it just me, or is this whole album about that brother and sister in 'King and Lionheart.' Maybe they left their home in Your bones, and travelled to another place in From Finner, etc etc. Which is why when they say 'We' in the songs it is the brother and sister talking. We just have to put all the songs in order

Why do you guys have to accentuate the beat, chill out, you guys have it but you can't keep on doing the same beat, throw it away. You are doing the same song over and over. Little Talks is great. It is original is your best but the rest is just an echo, get the woman singer a little drunk or something and let it loose.

+Queen Lionheart ,nice...One of the reasons why I love Of Monsters & Men is the fact that they seem proud of their Norse roots...It makes them stand out in the folk scene, because most of folk artists and bands follow ( or at least, try to) Bob Dylan's style, and paying tribute to their Norse roots gives to their songs an medieval and epic touch that the ones who follow the "modern troubadour" style -- that was Dylan's mark -- doesn't have...

I think in the song they’re talking about Finner who I’m pretty sure is the giant Godzilla sized whale. And I know it’s not hard to tell that they’re talking about him, it’s pretty obvious.
I gotta be honest with you. I think Finner is my favorite creature in the whole monsters of men franchise. He’s a big boi.

I know this is a lyrics video, but since it can be harder to sing along when you only get one word at a time:
We came here on his back
    And we caught your eye
    The salty ocean wind
    Made the seagulls cry
    The rocking of his house
    Had me holding on
But I knew that I was safe
    From there on out
And the waves that hit his face
    Marked the past
And the the farrows on his skin
    Oh, how time goes fast
And we are far from home, but we're so happy
Far from home, all alone, but we're so happy
    After every sunny day
    Came a stormy night
    That's when Finner would say
    Keep your heads held high
And we are far from home, but we're so happy
Far from home, all alone, but we're so happy
And we are far from home, but we're so happy
Far from home, all alone, but we're so happy

Ive been having LITTLE TALKS with myself BENEATH MY BED, waiting over SIX WEEKS for this song that I LOVE LOVE LOVE. This video deserves to be seen by well over a THOUSAND EYES... This is one of those songs you can feel deep in YOUR BONES. Weather it's a hike up BLUEBERRY MOUNTAIN, or a visit to your BACKYARD, this song will embed itself into your ORGANS, your heart, brain etc... This is my WINTER SOUND, my MOUNTAIN SOUND, my EMPIRE. This is my YELLOW LIGHT in an ocean of BLACK WATER, because I am only HUMAN, WE all SINK I am a SINKING MAN. It's a SLOW LIFE, and I move SLOW AND STEADY
a PHANTOM follows me as I stare at the SKELETONS covered with ice CRYSTALS near my LAKEHOUSE. I blaze my illegal NUMB BEARS to try and escape the pain as I enter a deep deep SLOOM. I want to be in HAWAII, I want to have this HAPPY SONG with me. I feel this HUNGER, like WOLVES WITHOUT TEETH do. Their DIRTY PAWS follow their KING AND LIONHEART, searching for the I OF THE STORM.
I picture SILHOUETTES of A BOY AND A BIRD, floating on PARTICLES. The boy, JOSIE, is playing with SUGAR IN A BOWL, sadly singing "WERE GETTING OLDER"
This is the power of this song...

We came here on his back
    And we caught your eye
    The salty ocean wind
    Made the seagulls cry
    The rocking of his house
    Had me holding on
But I knew that I was safe
    From there on out
And the waves that hit his face
    Marked the past
And the the farrows on his skin
    Oh, how time goes fast
And we are far from home, but we're so happy
Far from home, all alone, but we're so happy
    After every sunny day
    Came a stormy night
    That's when Finner would say
    Keep your heads held high
And we are far from home, but we're so happy
Far from home, all alone, but we're so happy
And we are far from home, but we're so happy
Far from home, all alone, but we're so happy

I can’t explain it but OMAM’s music is comforting and confusing at the same time. Like there’s so much to pick apart and so many ways you could interpret it and all of the songs may or may not connect to tell one story. But also, they’re not trying to hide things or confuse you out of spite, they’re just telling you a story in an odd and beautiful way.

I really like this song because it focuses on the lyrics and stuff more than the chorus where most songs on the radio are like 70% chorus and 30% other stuff.

Same here. I enjoy this kind of songs that are so much richer in the sense of the stories and meanings delivered through the lyrics, but I think that’s the reason why many of their songs don’t catch on in mainstream media. Most people just focus on music that are catchy and don’t bother to pay attention to deeper meanings. I really feel bad for them for missing out on the true masterpieces

Everyone seems to think this song is happy, that they sing it in parades, that its people running away finding a better life... but I hear sadness in the singers voice a silent misery. The way the odd circus music starts and the odd emotionless lalalala, it makes me think they’re not so happy. They’re trying to convince themselves they are. The shaking of his home had us holding on. I know what that is like, when you live with someone who isn’t stable, when they’re House is violently shaking and your struggling to hold on. But a5 the same time that person has taken responsibility of you, they feed you and house you, yet they’re not stable, they’re not good, and like a whale you are trapped in their back with nowhere to go. No way to leave so you sing to yourself about how “Happy” you are and how great it is to distract yourself from the fact there is no alternative. That you don’t want this but you have no where to go. You are far from home because you moved far away from your old life with this person, you uprooted everything without leaving a way back. I feel like this song embodies my mother from a long time ago. She couldn’t afford to take care of me and my siblings so she found a man, he offered to have u live with him, they had been dating for years at this point, we were loosing the house and had to leave, there my mom had friends and support groups. At first we moved nearby, and everything fell apart. It turned out the man was a compulsive gambler, he had an addiction and decided to take on a family while he had this problem. We never had money for rent because he would gamble it away. We had gotten kicked out of the house we lived in with him and moved in with his mother for a few months. Far from home, all alone. We eventually moved somewhere else, somewhere we had never been before, an hour away from anyone I knew, from my friends, my dad, distant family, everything. And for 3 years we lived without knowing if we would have a home next month, they always fought and argued, there never was money, we survived on food drives sometimes, we had electricity and water shut off a few times, I grew up without internet or tv. The worst part was the mans job paid well, enough to support a family but he wasn’t right in the head. He was crazy, I think he was kind of a sociopath, he was mean and cruel, even when he didn’t gamble. He would always pester my mom for her child support money so he could gamble it. He would yell and scream that if she didn’t give it he wouldn’t have money for rent and it would be her fault we were on the streets. When she said no he would yell at us that our mother didn’t love us and it would be her fault we would all be homeless. And we had no one, nothing, we were all alone, and we were so “ Happy”. This is the dark story I hear when I play this song. And like the circus music seems to imply it’s all crazy. So the poor people on the whales back maybe never wanted to be there, maybe the whale wasn’t such a good guy, maybe they miss the home they are so far from. But they sing to themselves about how happy they are as to not lose their minds. Think about that.
