A tour through the Donington Museum with the Grand Prix Collection of Tom Wheatcroft. The Donington Museum was located at the Donington Park Circuit. Unfortunately, this great museum is closed since November 5, 2018.
The Donington Museum contained a huge collection of Formula 1 cars, motorcycles. They're collected by the late Tom Wheatcroft, who founded the museum. Later his son added his collection of WWII vehicles to the museum.
In the museum is also a tribute to F1 driver Roger Williamson, who sadly died during the 1973 Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort.
Also a lot of Williams and McLaren F1 cars, among which the 1993 McLaren Ford with which Ayrton Senna won the European Grand Prix at Donington Park. It was the only Formula 1 race at the Donington Circuit, and it would became a legendary rain race.
In the summer of 2018 I made a Circuit Tour through England. One of the circuits I visited was Donington Park, the oldest operational circuit in the UK.
Before I went to the circuit I visited the Donington Museum with the Grand Prix Collection of Tom Wheatcroft in the morning. Unfortunately I heard later in 2018 that the Donington Museum will close forever. So I'm happy I visited and filmed it.

Another great video, of probably one of the greatest collection of F1 cars, and others ever seen, I visited this is 2013, and was amazed by the quality and number of exhibits. I find it hard to believe, that an exhibition of this type, started by the late Tom Wheatcroft, is not sustainable, perhaps the location is not perfect, but the collection is irreplaceable, and should be kept together. Thanks again to Herman for recording this for the future. Although I now live in Finland, this is living history, that should be sustained, perhaps it could have been incorporated as an addition to the nearby National Motorcycle Museum, by the NEC, Birmingham, another wonderful place to visit.
Ciao Herman! I arrived late, but I'm there. How sad to see such a beautiful and important museum close. It reminds me of the seagull wings museum, inside the Monza racetrack, closed in 1997. It was much smaller, but it had racing vehicles, very interesting. I hope this heritage will not be lost..
Ciao Yuri. What happened with the collection of Seagull Wings Museum? It's a pity I didn't visit it when I was for the first time at Monza in 1994.
What a best museum have i ever seen. Unfortunately it closed November 4th 2018. I hope i can go there in future

I worked at the collection for the Wheatcroft's during 1997.....the best job I was ever fired from!!
Such a shame it is closing, i went there several times in the late 90's and i loved it.
I sat in Montoyas McLaren when I was there to young to realise but nothing was ever said

Went many years ago, when they had David Purley's wrecked LEC March, however he got out of that god knows, it's such a shame they closed it, i can see them being sold to the highest bidder, DAMN!!!!!
All of the old cars the chassis are the same as the old but is the bodywork on the cars made to look the same or is it the old bodywork
I don't know. A part of the collection will be real race cars, others could be dummies who have been on motorsports fairs.

@@Jelios No it's not a joke. As far as I know, the vehicles will be stored first. I don't know what will happen later. I hope someone starts a new museum and takes over the whole collection.
@@Circuitsofthepast …...I've seen the museum of mougins (close to Cannes France) closed few years ago. that was sad. It was a beautiful sell by auction….
And Donington is a great museum with a beautiful collection…
