a little over half way in the episode and wanted to give my thoughts about your take, SPOILERS AHEAD DON"T READ IF YOU HAVE NOT READ ALL OF WORM I think the idea that the cast not knowing about S9 recruiting does not really work out without having to rewrite most of its history. The S9 has been active for around 20-30ish years if my memory serves correct. they are a true S-Class threat on level with the endbringers or at the very least they are as well known as the endbringers (in USA). even more so they love to roam to cities after endbringer attacks. Having been active for so long and what we find out in much later arcs, The S9 goes through members like napkins. they are constantly replacing new members. Jack Slash also loves to make huge spectacles about them arriving. he loves to broadcast that they are in the area, very rarely does he keep things hush hush for the whole operation. He wants nothing more then to have people fear him and his group. The S9 recruitment is such an effective way to spread fear among parahumans and in the story its tradition to test potential new members. so having it be a secret to the cast does not make much sense for Jack's M.O . IMO Or i completely misinterpreted what you guys said and if thats the case forget what i said! haha this podcast is so fun and great to listen to. it makes me just wanna engage in these type of discussions more and more. Keep up the good work!! i can't wait for Arc 13 as well as the next part of Dissecting Worm
Thanks so much for listening! We absolutely love this type of engagement. You are definitely right that reworking recruiting element would go against the established history of the S9. It's a tricky thing because a lot of the S9 history comes via straight exposition in the text which is hard to translate to screen. We are definitely making a big change there for the purposes of simplifying things and not bogging down the audience with a bunch of worldbuilding (which is hard because I could listen to a whole show of pure worldbuilding!). Not to spoil future episodes, but this concept is something we come back to and how that would work with the rest of the "season." So keep listening and let us know your thoughts as it continues! Hopefully our ideas make sense by the end :D
