This dining table base was full of character and had the potential to be a beautiful and high end looking kitchen island. I have been loving the design style that Natalie from @vintageporch on instagram has perfected, so I used some of those ideas on this makeover.
This video is in collaboration with my friend Jay over at @Flippingdrawers
We worked together to bring you guys two trash to treasure flips that we will be donating.
I hope these makeovers inspire you!

What did you think of this look? Do you have something at home to makeover?
Just make sure that the restaurant doesn't make servers split their tips with everyone, there has been problems with people receiving large tips at some places. Xx
Actually now that you mention it, I still have a dresser and chest from my early 20s that are good solid pieces but just need some updating. Now that you live in my neck of the woods, you should come over so we can transform them. ☺
I noticed the marble is not attached to the base. If someone leans on it it could come crashing off. Best to attach with a good adhesive.
It's beautiful, who ever buys it will be happy ❤
Thank you so much for this collaboration Cory! It was a lot of fun ❤️
no, thank YOU! It was so great talking to you on video chat. I am so happy to have you as a friend! Your piece is so creative, I know your friend is going to LOVE it. and everyone watching it too!
I love Jay. He is so artistic and his voice is like mediation for the creative soul. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
This looks fabulous but I think the timber you used for the feet should've been the same width as the leg. Plus the blocks you used to cover the heart should maybe have the edges rounded off to match the curvy look of thr rest of the base. Just a couple of minor details but that base was a great find and what you did with it was totally awesome.
I like that you were inspired on how you would create your own version... when you find a table base to work on these ideas will come together for you!
I'm with you, Deb. I love Cory's creativity and her 'no fear' style of attacking a project. I think that the heart cutout would have distracted less than the plywood squares do on the finished product and I think that the risers on the legs draw your eyes to the legs due to the difference of size between the risers and the original legs. The end result is that this island is going to be quite useful to Cory and it's in her kitchen. So, if Cory likes it......that's all that really matters. Each of us has our unique set of likes and dislikes.
I can't wait to watch Cory restore another old and abused piece of furniture.
Thanks for the video and kudos to you for your kind and generous heart.
I thought the same, the extensions to the legs looked too small and the heart covers should have a little more finish. I have loved everything else you’ve done, but this one looks great, but could have been better
I second all of that.
LOVE IT!!! What a unique and artistic addition to your kitchen!! I personally love having items that are uniquely mine! No cookie cutter stuff to be "on trend"!! You have made your house a home!! Bravo
Love it Corrie! Beautiful piece!
I loved the table / island. It turned out great
Love your finished kitchen island -- you are so clever and talented with how you remake and renew stuff. I just spent the weekend spraying that Rustoleum stone texture (in a differnt color) on my damaged coffee table top and haven't sealed it yet. I was really happy to see this video posted because I wanted to see what you used as a sealer. I was even happier when I saw you using polycrylic which is what I planned to use. Always nice to have a more experienced DIYer confirm a product, especially when I already have it on hand and don't have to go out and spend money.
How perfect, I love it
The faux stone top is beautiful! The base is awesome! The only thing I would have done differently is raise the base on the top instead of making additional legs. Thanks for sharing
Thank you Sophoa. Great idea
I love the dog posing by the table!
Thank you Jane. She is like my shadow, always there and she fit right in with the island lol!
Yes, that works great!!!
Thank you Chandra
You make me laugh! When you dragged it inside and onto the carpet and started drilling holes, all the dust going everywhere , I was like, "This is a girl after my own heart". When the inspiration hits, there is no stopping us. (Except babies and supper, lol)
And it turned out AMAZING!!!!
Wow that came out amazing!
BEAUTIFUL...
Hello You Busy Mom, WOW What a transformation and how handy You will find the Island for extra bench space. The piece really suits your kitchen as well. Nice to see the dog enjoying your work lol. I think You are incredible doing all that work with 4 wonderful Children ❤️. Thank you Mary!
Hey Cory, I was in the mood to watch you but I’d seen all the recent videos so had to go back a couple of years, so glad I did, loved the birth story video and now down to just a year ago ❤️

They truly are!
Wow, that is beautiful. Looks like something from Wayfair.
I do I always like the ones that roll that way I can put them out of my way when they really are in your way I can push them backwards I love a rollable countertop they're great for baking and setting things on
Beautiful
Watching you 'rescuing' pieces that would have been trashed just never gets old. I love every minute and it helps me become better at refinishing unwanted 'junk'. Your collaboration looks like so much fun, stay happy!
Thank you so much Lois! That makes me so happy to hear
Lol I am so beyond jealous of your skill!!! It's pure entertainment watching you transform stuff ! This island table is so cool and I love that you added the wheels !!! Your such a bad ass!!
Thank you so much Briana. You could so do this
You have a big heart ... The work and donations are awesome. Baby is a doll!
Thank you Dianna@
Your baby girl is adorable!!! And she has so much gorgeous hair!😍
Thank you so much Robin
This turned out beautiful. Thanks for sharing, Cory ❤
Thank you Gina
@@DesertDIY you’re welcome, Cory
Not sure if it’s correct but my husband says the saw issue could be the blade. You have to use the right kind for whatever cuts you are making. He says the blade is binding. Cool project!
what a great find! turned out awesome! cute dog
Thank you Janet
clever use of a table base! I love a kitchen island. turned out with a very nice stone top
Thank you so much. Often times I go into a project having no idea what I am doing and this was definitely one of those times so I am very relieved that it turned out well and that you enjoyed it!
First off your baby girl is an absolute doll baby, what a cutie😊!
Second Flippingdrawers guy is amazing and that piece he did for ugly duckling was phenomenal and my favorite!
Thanks for adding those legs with dowels, I think I could do that!
Thank you so much Kaj! Be sure to glue them really well. I'd also recommend camping them when you glue them. I forgot to do that!
Very handy and functional piece. Well done Cory. 👏🏻 Another way to go would have been to turn the base upside down and use that length of wood with the heart, as a place to hang items. Then again, with small kids and dogs around, that prob wouldn’t be very practical in your home. I’m sure every item would be playthings within a few mins. 🤣
Haha thats a very creative idea! I love how we can all look at the same piece and think of a million different ways to do it and they'd all turn out super cool
I think it turned out lovely. I would have taken a round hole saw and made a circle cut out over the heart instead of the wood blocks. Beautiful project.
That's a cool idea!
i was thinking about maybe filling the hole with a cut out and wood filler etc but bc she didn’t stain it and went with the natural look then that would probably not have worked 😅
Cory this is awesome. You took all these things and made an incredible island.
Thank you so much!
Not only are your transformations beautiful but you are beautiful! I love the "real factor" with your little one and pup!
Thank you so much!
As much as I enjoy your work and end results , I think I even more so enjoy and appreciate your kind and sweet heart. Thank you!
Thank you so much Cindy
Awesome video Cory you are so clever!!! I LOVE your imagination and outcome of your creations! Thank you for sharing!!! 🧡❤️💜💙💚
Love your channel! JUst checked out Jay's project. He does have quite the arsenal of tools to work with.
Oh yes! He is an expert
Very nice!
Thank you Shawna
I love it 💕
Thank you Alba
I like it
Loving the more natural wood look here recently. Fantastic flip. Love it. You're going to make a server very very happy. Thank you for thinking of them. Have a Wonderful week.
Thank you so much Georgie! I'm very excited about it
The battery powered circular saw will stop with any type of resistance, I think it's some sort of safety feature. If you put a leather glove on your hand and stick your hand in front of the blade while it's running, it will stop. You literally cannot cut your hand. If you want continuous power you must use a corded saw.
That’s a handy do-over. Thank you for sharing this.
Thank you Lydia
My rigid does this too. I end up grabbing my husband's electric work saw.
What a pain, huh?
What a wonderful job you did. It is stunning. It was good seeing you again. God bless.
Thank you so much Anita! Good to hear from you as well!
Love the island! Came out beautiful! But, can you use an epoxy sealer for a longer lasting food safe surface?
absolutely!
Absolutely fabulous!
Thank you Jackie
Loving this Collaboration pls keep it up 🎉🎉🎉
I scrolled quite a ways down without seeing a solution to the saw battery issue, so here's my 2cents. Cutting through very thick and/or hard wood does put stress on the motor, so try cutting in several shallower passes. It takes off the pressure and you shouldn't have so much trouble. Doing it in one pass will also snap a circuit breaker on electric saws.
That is possible, but once I switched batteries it had no issues on the same cuts. I guess I just need to see if they will exchange my battery for a new one
Great team work you 2! Cory, your vision for this piece was right on, very cool piece of functional furniture.
Thank you so much Dar
Wow!🥰 Please let us know the reaction of the person that you bless with the 💰. Really cool to see you and Jay collaborate 💯
I sure will!
The islands looks great. I love the top. Thanks Cory
Thank you so much Stephanie
Beautiful. When you covered up that heart I thought it would look nice but boy I love ❤️ the way it turned out. Thank you for sharing ❤❤
Thank you Donna
Island looks really great
Thank you Dianna
What a transformation! Great job and love how you added the height. Thank you for the great inspiration!
Thank you so much Paula
Love the repurposed table base!
Thank you!
You did a great job! Someone is really going to love that
Thank you Ann!
I personally like dark and moody pieces. It's nice and great use of old junk for sure ;)
Dark and moody is definitely trending right now
@@DesertDIY Yes but it all seems to be grey of some sort. I like wood tops with deep red bases washed with black, or Deep blue with wood and silver. Its defiantly not for every one lol

Wow that is soooooo beautiful!
Thank you Lindee!
The top looks great, looks like real stone!!! I love the shape of the base, that was a find. Nice work and it fits ur kitchen style perfectly. Thanks for sharing ur ideas.
Thank you Cindy!
This turned out well..I love the faux stone top😊
Thank you!!!
Fun-tastic ! Don't forget 1$ store popsicle sticks to wedge in bottom expand cracks ( some have 3 stain sticks for a $1. Same brand other place $6 yikes
It looks good. How did you attach the top? I think if you use resin on the top it would be durable.
Beautiful and unique
Thank you Diane!
That turned out beautiful!💖
Thank you Gail
Cory this turned out beautiful ❤
Thank you Angel
Hi from South Africa Cory so nice to see you chatting to Jay in England. He won your last Ugly Duckling challenge and I just want to say how much I enjoy seeing both of your work and videos.Your litte girl is beautiful
Thank you so much Gail
I have the same issue with my saw, the island turned out gorgeous!!
Very frustrating isn't it?
Sand blasters in general must have very dry air as in to get them to work optimally you almost have to have a refrigerated air drying system. Most are expensive. And they also use a very high volume of air ( C.F.M.) can be very hard on compressors.
Stunning! Great job!!
Thank you Amber
Love it another great makeover, you gave a piece destined for landfill a whole new lease of life also your baby is so cute and growing up so fast unfortunately they are not babies long
Beautiful!
Thank you Deborah!
Loved this!!! I have a small kitchen and need an island for additional work space. It needs to be a custom size so you have inspired me ❤
You can make an island out of lots of things!!! Thank you for watching
Fantastic. I think the reason the saw quits is a matter of safety. I think it must be overheating nor in a bind and the safety kicks on to protect you.
It does seem like a safety feature that is malfunctioning because no other battery has this issue
Stonecoat countertops epoxy would have been a good choice for the top
Yes if they werent so pricey I wouldve used them
Battery overheating can cause shut-off. Also new and better quality blades cut easier. Best to by larger power tools with cords.
Thank you Mariann
Love it!!!
Thank you Pam
You could have put the wood on one side and took a pencil and outlined the heart, made the cut and put the heart wood piece inside and filled the rest. Also, if you have a Menards near by, they have free wood blocks the size of feet and many other sizes that are in a bin by the cut yourself station for FREE!
Great project! I have the same problem with my Black & Decker circular saw. Same exact thing happening as yours. Would also love some insight.,
From what I can tell, the battery is a dud
Beautiful Cory!
Thank you so much Lynn
Great job!!!!
Thank you Christine
Beautiful 💗
Thank you Janet
Love it Cory! Very creative treatment for the top👍🏻( personally, I loved the heart down below, but I’m a fan of all things heart-shaped!😄)🫶🏻
Thank you Cindy
Gorgeous❤
Thank you Astrid
Why didn’t you replace that whole piece of wood, where the Heart cut out was? Wouldn’t that have helped to stabilize the frame?
I liked the shape of it. It glued up well 👌
My friends strip wood stained furniture with laundry bleach. I've never done it before, so, do think your application is more we're successful? The piece is beautiful and and very creative😊. New sub here🙋♀️. TY.
Wow I have never heard of using bleach as a stripper! I have no idea how to compare since I've never tried stripping with bleach
Great job
I love it 🎉❤
Thank you Debra!
I like the pioneer rustic vibe to it! Did you permanently attach the marble top to the base? If so, I missed that and wondered how you would do it.
Hi Terri! Since this is SO heavy, it doesn't need to be permanently attached. Also for moving purposes it would need to be able to be removed to put into a vehicle etc. All antiques with marble tops do it this way as well. They are just resting on top of the piece using their weight to keep them in place. I can push this all around and the stone won't move.
You can add strips of wood to the underside of the stone so that it is"held" in place by the frame underneath the stone. It's just an extra step of safety. We just used glue to add the wood to the bottom of the stone.
@@DesertDIY thank you.
Have you been out for dinner yet? ☺️ I'm just curious how it went...
Suggest you go to their website and ask your question or call their customer service…or maybe it’s a bad battery that doesn’t recharge.
That's a good idea I'll check out their website
Wow 😮 😮😮 ! ! ! ❤❤❤
Thank you iris!
Hi Cory! Just hit that button as you ARE so fun and clever! Love the island, but the bottom feet don't look right to me. Too small? I love how you use what you have or find in the yard!
Thank you Janet. I'm going to have to try a larger piece of lumber next time
