How this band slipped through the cracks is an absolute tragedy. The two albums they had out were tremendous. Think I saw them on this tour - this is from the end of the NME tour with Starsailor, Alfie and Amen, isn't it?
Benjamin Thomas I believe it is. With all these reunions/anniversary tours nowadays I keep thinking how awesome it would be if they got back together and tried again (with Sarah now that Hilary’s doing her own thing). Mark never even got a solo album out, come on man!
@@72JamJarsI remember seeing JJ72 in the Red Box in 2000 and they were immense, such a memorable performance. I saw them again in 2005 and they just weren't the same, unfortunately. Their songs were good but that purity had faded (not sure how to describe it)...Mark then had a band called Concerto for Constantine, who had some incredible songs. I saw them once and they seemed to lack stage presence, which sounds absurd when listening to this gig. Well worth checking out some of their songs though. ruclips.net/video/PPfVZQpe4kA/видео.html
Carl O'Reilly Thanks for sharing Carl, I have some CforC songs languishing on an old hard drive somewhere. I never managed to see them live but really enjoyed what I heard so sorry to hear that they were a bit lacklustre. I saw JJ72 twice around 2005 and then Mark on his solo tour. I agree about losing that “purity”; it was like Mark was trying to write songs that he thought would chart/sell. Didn’t stop me giving him a drunken hug in a pub in Edinburgh though (maybe put him off coming back to Scotland lol)!
Still the best gig of my life, Cardiff Uni on the NME tour. I treasure this album. Such a formative part of my life (2nd year in uni) and they were just fucking ace.
Fantastic - I loved going to see JJ72 play live at their London shows - Truly great - Two fantastic albums then never finished the third - Oh I miss them for they were a tour de force.
Saw them live at Rockwave festival 2001 in Greece. I fell in love with their music instantly and I kept calling the local record shop for their album! Such a shame they didn't produce more music, I have such great memories listening to their debut and I to Sky albums.
They played our freshers week at Uni (Warwick). Think I was the only one there moshing to Bumble Bee. Such a great band. I’m really pleased they’re finally on Spotify!
@@RustlingRagazza it's amazing how a track evolves. Fit formulae, the is no falsetto in the pre-chorus with the same intonation as the verse. The guitar reverb/delay had not yet been established either. Algeria defo the stronger of this two tracks in this performance. Still a great watch.
Thanks for the upload. Saw these on my 21st Birthday in Shepherds Bush Empire. This has took me back nearly 20 years in memories! Great band. The eponymous first album is in my top 5 albums of all time.
These guys played the freshers' ball at my uni. I remember feeling bad that they were having to play such a bad gig given how good they were. Also remember being shocked that none of my mates outside uni had heard of them. Search for their music anywhere now and not much comes up, such shame
Hay poca gente en México que conoce esta banda. Recuerdo haber comprado su 2o álbum en MixUp y se lo enseñé a la que en ese entonces era mi novia, y le encantó. De hecho se volvió una de sus bandas favoritas. Me trae tantos recuerdos bonitos. Tuve la suerte de encontrar el primer álbum en vinilo y firmado en ebay. Me siento tan afortunado de tener dicha joya en mi colección.
saw them right around this time twice when they opened for stereophonics back to back shows in Boston and New York. I thought they were going to be as big as Stereophonics or Travis
No mms esto es un regalo que no tiene precio. Una de mis bandas favoritas, es una lastima que no siguieran adelante. Pero de verdad muchas gracias por el aporte.
more than 10 years ago I found a bootleg compilation named BBC sessions, unfourtunately got lost on a faulty drive. among others had this version of formulae, a cover of wicked game and a version of city where the drum loop keep going for a couple of seconds after the song ended, does any one knows were can I find it?
That's because he is. He's not holding back. I don't think the excessive reverb always helped. He has a great voice, that even when it breaks it's still somehow in key.
@@Beanbag777 the "Performance". The singer should've gone to therapy or anger management before butchering the songs in front of the audience. You have to respect the songs, even if you wrote them yourself. It's unprofessional towards the audience and towards your band colleagues. No wonder they split and the singer doesn't publish anything of significance anymore.
Anyone watching in 2020?love these guys.

Please come back. The shite that’s passed for music these days is unbelievable. You would take the piss out of them
They can't. They split.
One problem in your logic no one in the world can write a good song these days
This takes me back to my first year of uni, reading lots of books about Irish history and being very cold in my halls of residence!
This band disappeared yet muse got global, still hurts to this day
I know! I know.
Because Muse far better. These guys sound terrible live.

Not sure it is, as the amen/starsailer tour was autumn 2001 and this was before?
Drummer that can’t keep time, lead singer / guitarist that can’t really play the guitar all the while thinking he is on his own little journey.
The lost twin brother of placebo..both great
Or in later years, Silversun Pickups.
Proper influence, with Manics and Nirvana
Matt Bellamy's forgotten sibling.

Incredible band.... and I've always been in love with the bassist.
I can understand why
Everyone was in love with her

Fantastic band. I saw them at a tiny gigs in 2000 and then again in 2005 when they were back in the smaller venues. So good live.

Loved JJ72 as a young man...got me through university. Whatever happened to them?
Got pissed off with the record company and the corporate music industry. Kudos to them I say! Fantastic band.
Bumble bee is EPIC.
The commitment and passion they put in to that song is unbelievable
I so wish I had seen this band, awesome!
Watched and watched and I keep coming back and back for more - one of my regrets is never seeing these live when I had the chance..

Sonic Youth fan. JJ is a sweet placebo, in some ways. Respect to them!! So much potential and realness...miss you...
Such a great band. Way better than Muse who came out at a similar time.
I Saw them at V2001 and they were incredible. This is a great vid. Thank you.
abolutely epic for eternity! So much power and feeling!

Live version of formulae! No way! An early one at that! Thanks for the video! Didn't realize how much I missed them !

Woowww thanks ❤

around that time, I saw them in the Olympia in Dublin. Hilary hammered the strings in such bad ass fashion Lemmy would have approved I am sure.

wasn't Warwick by any chance was it?
Saw them in Galway in 2001...They were fantastic.
Was there a band called Melaton supporting them? Another talented band who fell away unfortunately.
What a voice it’s a shame they never lasted the bass player is gorgeous

I'm a big fan of JJ72 but crowdsurfing at a Silverfish concert at the Leadmill, Sheff, 1989 was better. Sorry. My head still hurts.

Who else is here in 2039 ?
What happened to them? Can’t get their music on Spotify, soundcloud or Apple Music.
It is a tragedy. I inherited the first album from my Uncle after he passed away in 2003. Sadly the disc no longer plays...wish it was on Spotify!
They are on Spotify now
Mark and Hillary still releasing solo albums can't say i have listened to them though
I have their CD in my collection.
