i think they were aiming at what nirvana did to mtv with the miming the music and how kurt fucked with the vocals and especially how pat kenny runs through the motions and makes sure his fucking show runs smoothly. take a page from edward nortons book (or any other tv show presenter) go with the flow and let the guests make the show brilliant. poor social skills pat. sorry bit of a rant. JJ72 kicked and still kick ass. Concerto for Constantine. very good indeed :)
Saw JJ72 in the Temple Bar Music Centre in Dublin 2001 and the most frequent comment heard in the crowd was that the bassist was an absolute lash; the singer may as well have been a hologram. Although I respect this as probably the fruitiest vocals to be delivered on the Late Late, would've been a better idea to generate more audience goodwill before going all-out parody.
It's funny when Nirvana did it. Not so much a band that has totally disappeared and their ex-members working in shitty jobs. This should be filed under career-destroying arrogance of an unknown band.
Elderly audience? The Late Late audience was about 40% of the country. It was beyond stupid for them to sabotage their career on live tv. They weren't kids either, they should have known better. None of us know where they are now, wow so cool.
ha ha ha ha ur so rigt, look atthe two old guys when the camera zooms out. fukin great, pats a gobshite...great band...and arks new one concherto for constantine r legend too
Muse did this a lot too back in the day and got away with it because the music spoke for itself. JJ72 took the piss and just sounded even worse than they usually did live lol. I loved and still love JJ72 but they should've taken things a bit more serious back in the early days. Get a bit of cred and then take the piss. Whatever, it was up to them, I guess. Hilary is making her own music now and I'm sure Mark and Fergal are happy and healthy
I'm a big fan of JJ72. That said, the reason they never made it as big as some of the lesser bands is, besides an incomparable panache for shit videos, Mark consistently fucked up live TV performances like this one. I challenge anyone to find one where he gets it right. One, where at very least, he isn't parodying himself so perfectly.
Performing live exposed the complete limitations of the vocals and musicianship. This could be tidied up for the studio but live it was obvious even by the standards of the time which didn't really emphasise virtuosity.
I love JJ72 but they're basically a lesson in how not to steer the early stages of your career if you're fortunate enough to land a record deal, good press and a decent bit of general momentum. Came and went very quickly for them and I can't help but think with stuff like that (and other live performances, press at the time) that they were somewhat architects of their own downfall. Nirvana and Oasis took the piss on TV live performances when they were already established as the biggest bands in the world. I can even remember The Coral doing 'Bill McCai' on CD:UK after they went to number 1, all dressed up daft and holding their instruments backwards - and still got away with it. JJ72 weren't so lucky. There's a fine line between humouring the hoops you have to jump through in a band and sabotaging yourself.
Lol, the audience doesn't look like the kind of audience that would dig this kind of music, which is probably why Mark was acting the way he did on this. I lol'd
There would not be a "Remember JJ72" youtube channel if they hadn't done stupid things like this. They would probably be on another tour having released their 8th album.
Poor old Pat, he did his best to cover up the fucking shambles that was. JJ72 so arrogant, so juvenile. Shame. A lesson to all young bands, don't bite the hand that feeds.
@RememberJJ72 And we wonder why they went nowhere. The guys a perfect example of self sabotage. Not to mention JJ72's uncanny ability to make shit videos.
legendary vocals immense

Ah, the good ol' days. RememberJJ72 deserves a can of coke.
Of course hes joking. I love him for it.
Brilliant. Such a piss take. I bet the elderly audience thought they were awful :-)
Well done.

Yes lol
That is bloody hilarious !!!!!!!
What a great band they were.... Pat was shitting himself.
This was a sily thing to do - probably peed off management a bit - hope stuff like this didn't bring about there demise
@RememberJJ72 I orefer this to the original, actually.
Poor auld Pat, I'd say he regretted getting them on.
Their poor mums

Don't know why he's ruining the song singing it like that, but it is funny lol

Agreed. They were consistantly awful live. Just didn't generate any buzz for themselves
TOTP - did a grand version of Oxygen on it!
Performing live exposed the complete limitations of the vocals and musicianship.

Snow on TOTP was pretty damn perfect imo

Seriously what the fuck are you on about

Oh do shut up, boomer.
They still achieved more than you ever will, prick.
@RememberJJ72 And we wonder why they went nowhere. The guys a perfect example of self sabotage. Not to mention JJ72's uncanny ability to make shit videos.
Did more than you ever could, prick.
uhhh nice work jeopardising a primetime appearance to make some kind of obtuse juvenile posture about a tv show??????
Insulting your audience is a lesson Mark learned the hard way. I believe his music career is finished now and is he is in some shitheap music college.
Insult deserved. As I’m sure this show is the same clown posse that brought you your shitheap pile of music you’re listening to now. DOUCHE.
Actually he’s doing very well.
But you’re probably in a dead end job and jealous you never will achieve anything.
