Timmy and Lorraine go to church with my wife myself and our two sons where my brother preaches at. My youngest son was just born on October 2nd, 2022.. just two weeks ago. Timmy and Lorraine bought the baby a 4 pack wash cloth set, a pack of receiving blankets, and a 10 piece baby kit that has basically all the necessities a baby needs. Nail clippers, hair brush, rubber ducky, bottles, bottle brush, I could go on about what all they bought for him. My point is, these are very kind people who understand more things than what people think they do. We care alot about them and I just want to publicly say thank you to Timmy and Lorraine and the family for the gifts they bought is. Very sweet people, misunderstood but very great people who are very happy.
This makes me so happy!! So glad they have your family looking out for them. ♥️

In a world so messed up, it's nice to see basic loving people just living life.
Something really stands out from the first video to now. They each have a spark in their eye they didn't have in the first video. They each have a smile now. I can't help but believe it is due to your friendship and kindness/generosity and of course those who donate to them has helped immensely as well. I think having a friend that randomly shows up as you do, gives them something to look forward to. Never knowing what sweet suprise you'll have or do next is so wonderful for them and from what I can tell they don't ever even expect anything. Putting food in their fridge and freezer has to have had a huge impact on their happiness/energy. Getting them out for a shopping trip, the doc for Ray. Mark you and your supporters have done so much for them, you are an incredible person ❤

I was low key terrified when Mark left he's sister alone in the kitchen. I get it they are "friends" but.. These peoples are mentally ill. They were laughing when one of raped the neighbours.. And all the other things.
They reminded me of the Texas chainsaw killer family.

I'll admit, I was pretty disturbed discovering this family at first. Now, after watching all the videos, I have fallen in love with every single one of them. What beautiful souls. There is something so incredibly special about Ray. Your assistant Elle is amazing, seems so comfortable which I'd imagine would be difficult in that environment. God bless all of you.

The Whittaker's seem to be happier than they were before and jovial. It looks like Ray knee is healed. Lorraine is speaking more audibly. Betty is looking happy. Even the dogs are excited and happy bcuz they are constantly barking. Their brother is visiting them and seemed more involved. Ray is so happy with his coffee ☕. Thank you Mark for updating the Whittaker's family. They are really doing so much better since your first visit with them. Keep helping them they really appreciate you

Ray ADORES Mark. He was almost saying “sit here, sit here!” while he was patting the cushion trying to get Mark to sit by him. Then on the porch he tried to give Mark his pancake! So cute. Mark is the Whitakers’ guardian angel and patron saint :)

It melts my heart seeing Ray with a fresh cup of coffee, something he probably didn't have a lot of before Mark visited them the first time. It's a blessing that they crossed paths.
Mark has pretty much became one of the family! It's great to see everyone's demeanor lightened up with more smiles, and Timmy and Lorraine talking more.
Found myself rewatching these videos. I'm pondering why people admire families like the Kardashians who seem to have everything yet really have nothing. Here is this family who appear to have nothing but infact have everything. They truly are living their best life. Their love for eachother is immeasurable.. You can't fake or buy that. Wishing them all the very best 💜

@@tanker335 The locals and the neighbors do NOT lack when it comes to the Whitakers! It took Mark ( filmmaker) a minute to gain their trust. They definitely are a close net community, regardless to how isolated from the rest of society it may seem.. I think it's beautiful and it shows that there are still a lot of good people left in this world. 🥰

Betty has to be sibling of the year. What a wonderful sister to look after her family for whom she gave her entire life. I just hope all the donations can give he and the rest of the Whittakers a little extra joy and ease from what seems to have been a hard life. To me, this is what social media and the internet does best, shine light on good be and allow all the rest of the good people to pitch in and help out their fellow human. after watching these videos and the aftermath of support, maybe there's hope for us yet as a species.

I feel like Lorain has been speaking a lot more because she sees you as family now. You definitely notice a change in everyone's behavior around you. Their eyes sparkle when they look at you.

Oh my God you just called her a great lady what the heck are you talking about she can't take care of herself must less anyone else. Fire hazard all over the house dishes and nastiness stacked to the ceiling she can't or don't cook so how is she taking care of anyone. Not to mention none of them seem to have hygiene and do you know what kind of issues poor hygiene can cause in a community?

The moment with Ray and fork is a pure comedy. He was eating with hands, then after being given a fork he just put in on the plate and continued eating with hands. What a pure, beautiful heart!

Can we donate for additional care and inhome support? I hurt me to see them struggling to keep their home, clothes and themselves clean. But I see they are genuinely happy and they don’t know much else and that’s more than most people can say. Thank you for helping them in the ways you do, for being their friend and sharing them with us!

I think a lot of us started watching this out of sheer morbid curiosity, and I wasn't sure how I felt about Mark documenting all of this to begin with. But wow, having watched a few of these videos now you can really see how happy there are to have a familiar face over! The dogs look so well looked after (look at those waggy tails!) and you can tell how much they love eachother as a family, even in very few words. Ray is literally a ray of sunshine too - you can tell he understands just about everything and I actually feel like his social skills have improved since you guys came into their life! What started as morbid curiosity has turned into something that's actually very feel-good. These people can't help the cards they were dealt with in life, but seeing how they are with eachother is honestly so wholesome. I've seen 'normal' familes that have it all, that aren't anywhere near as happy and close as the Whittakers are. Also love how Timmy is always doing word searches and doing educational activities that he obviously enjoys. I think we can tall take something away from how the Whittakers live their lives. Absolutely love these guys and I hope for nothing but the best for them xxx
These are a very happy family. You can see that. The nasty remarks about Mark is totally uncalled for. I think his intentions are good. He has been so good to them, and you can see they care for him. Hearing Lorraine’s situation broke my heart, Timmy looks a lot like Kenneth, makes you wonder is that why they got so quiet….either way I have a soft spot for this family especially Ray, always so cheerful, love the fact he speaks to every car that passes by….I’ve seen enough videos to say I too understand Ray….He’s my Fav❤️

Their parents’ fathers are twin brothers, which seems is the main reason of 16 sad lives…. lots of these siblings look alike, it won’t surprise u if nephew looks like uncle at all.
This story is so heartbreaking on so many levels. These 15 kids were dealt such a hard hand in life but yet they survived by sticking together and caring for each other.
What have they been through? Im dying to know more and i cant find shit anywhere 😭

Other than all Mark does (not just financially which is so heartwarmingly inspiring the fact he “takes” the family shopping, haircuts, bowling, spends quality time, etc.) & a go fund me I last knew generated like $30k that bought them a new roof, a truck, appliances etc. I would think some of the multi-millionaires out there would build them a new house/addition. I think a trailer was built for Kenny right next door, so something at least to that degree. It’s pretty nice, considering. I am amazed at Betty's memory with birthdays and the families' health history. She knows everything about everyone in her care. She smiles no matter what😊 too.

Worked for ASP for years in Appalachian region helping coal miners helping fix up their trailers, putting on new roofs and decks, etc., thru the church in Nashville. Humble, kind, very loving people. Thank you for all that you do for them. Kindness always. I miss my families.

Seeing Lorraine being very vocal is such a breakthrough. Timmy is definitely much smarter than he looks for sure, he does things that are very meticulous or carefully thought out. Betty really is the glue to all of them and I wish her the best. We appreciate these updates mark!

Getting to know these people has been wonderful. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to do so. I just wanted to bring attention to the loyalty and bond they have with each other. It’s very often that I see “normal” families put family members like Ray, or Lorraine in a home or facility but not these beautiful people… I’m sure Betty would never even think of doing that . And I don’t want to hear anyone tell me that he could be somewhere in a home that was clean with more space he would be far from happy, he would be lonely and slowly deteriorate much like most of them do 😢
Ray screaming "Heeeeyyyyy" at the dog for trying to get into his plate at 13:25 made me laugh until I cried 😂. I made a 5 minute loop of it and made it my alarm clock sound 😂. Ray wakes me up every morning.

That kitchen was cleaned before filming. Very clean stove top , the walls are so bright and the ceiling lights do not have one dead bug in them.
I can't express the impact that this family has had on my life. To see them so content, happy and loving with so little changed me. All that they want is to be with each other. I never would have thought that. This is what life is all about. Miss Betty has done a great job.

Those people who gush that Ray is adorable/amazing/fascinating/etc, if they were told that their unborn son had the same mental and physical health issues and defects, would they really be thrilled and excited and grateful that they would have such a 'adorable' new member of their family?

I was pleasantly shocked to see the progression that has been made. The home looks so much better and the smiles upon their faces definitely shows. I donate when I can as this is where I feel the money will be best spent.

I was actually thinking the same thing. Although one thing that kept coming to my mind was how they spent the money donated to them. Far too often today you hear of people (who have money donated for one reason or another) blowing through the money and squandering it on the dumbest things that dont help their situation at all. It's nice to see that the Whitakers spent the money on quality of life items that will help them for years to come.

Thank you Mark for the updates on the Whittaker family, it blesses my heart to see they’re doing ok. In this video Loraine is rubbing her chest I know she had some heart problems in the past, I’m wondering if she was telling you she was hurting again. I’ve never seen her talk as much before, and Ray was patting the chair for you to sit down beside him, he really likes you Mark. The care and attention you give them is probably all they get. You talked about another house that they might buy, is that something in the works for the future? Miss Betty she’s a sweetie she takes care of all of them so we pray that she stays healthy . Thank you again Mark for keeping us updated how the family is doing !!

Whoever says money can't buy happiness has never been poor. The better this family's quality of life gets the happier they look, the more verbal they are, the cleaner their house is becoming, etc. despite their disabilities. This is a prime example of how poverty is a disease in itself. A little money, a little community, a little caring goes a long way in how people function. Each one of these people is doing better since the first video. Now they have hope and a sense of pride.
I know. As someone who lives in abject poverty, if I could make it to the poverty line it would change my life. As it is, I live at a 1/4 of what the poverty line is.
Money can buy happiness. When you’re forever worrying about choosing between food and rent or your medication, life has very little to offer. Even the luxury of going out for a fancy hot chocolate is out of reach. There’s no treats, no new clothes; you know the humiliation of having to wear secondhand underwear? You should try it and see what it does to your spirit. I was told that I was lucky that I could get someone’s second hand underwear and bras. Fuck. You. That right there stole whatever humanity I had left. I knew that I was seen as nothing. The utter humiliation.

Their mother kept the girls close to home, they always lived in an area without new visitors/neighbors. A family member harmed Lorraine. Btw Mark's sister Elle is cute.

I have family in Appalachia, they're an incredibly strong group of people!! I came from Boston to visit for the first time. It was culture shock, I'm more appreciative for everything I have!! I thought I had hard times!! My struggles were nothing in retrospect. God bless these folks & everyone who's helping or helped them. They surely need the help. Not sympathy,but blessings!!

Just come across your videos and what a beautiful family who understand the meaning of unconditional love. Everybody deserves such a loving sister. A sister who is so compassionate she will give up her own life to look after her siblings, Betty is woman of the century material and deserves acknowledgment for her loving sacrifices.

They live a life most of of us will never understand. I started out the series by being shocked and saddened. Each episode has been eye opening. Each episode I feel more and more of a bond with them. They live in kindness, peace and contentment. There are no cell phones, social media or outside noise. There aren't many of us in this world that will get to experience this simplicity. There are moments my heart aches for them but I think that is the last thing they would want. Thank you Whittakers for sharing your life with the world and thank you Mark for this amazing, raw footage.

The house is looking so much better than the first video. Ray's knee seems to be feeling better too. It isnt much in this day and age anymore but back in the day especially in Appalachia, it's a huge act of service to prepare a meal for and serve someone. I love how we saw them start to open up during the Walmart trip, and they have continued to open up, and blossom more and more with each visit. I love it! I’m late, and binging and a year out now. I’m scared to death with each new video, there will be bad news. I keep Praying it all stays positive.
My Daddy is from Bluefield and always talked about getting out to get away from the coal mines and poverty. I’ve never been to visit, tho I have always wanted to because it’s such beautiful country and I’ve spent time in other parts of the Appalachian mtns. Thank you again for sharing this wonderful family and beautiful country with us.
