But not very smart, what did he think would happen giving this family $100K cash? Of course they were gonna get taken advantage of, it would be easy to talk them into anything and with kids who have learning disabilities obviously they know $100K is coming in they are gonna try to get their hands on it. You can't just give people like this who have never had anything for 70 years of living that kind of money all of a sudden, Mark should've(or his assistants) arrange purchase of furniture, construction on the house and things like that. Give em $1K walmart card for food and things like that every now and then. You can't really blame people with mental retardation for blowing $100K, you blame the guy who fooled his viewers into giving that money and him just handing it over without any precautions in place.

I just love watching Ray.
He’s a good guy. I watched one of these videos where he was showing where some of his relatives were burried and he was sad. In another he was showing mark veggies he planted. He’s a proud man. He’s kind and he’s grateful for all Mark has done. He shows him his new things as if to say thank you. He’s expressive and helps everyone as best he can. For him to only grunt I wonder what his childhood was like. Was he left alone all the time with just the dogs as company. Hes the only honest one in that family!
There's a lot of stuff about him when he was younger, he used to be sort of a predator, several of his cousins have said he tried to SA them when they were all younger. Apparently he was arrested in his mid 20's a couple of times for actually attacking women and trying to have his way with em and sent to a hospital. A few people in the community posted about Ray and his brother being kicked out church and not allowed to go back years ago b/c they kept acting inappropriately around young girls.
Giving BJ $2000 to 'get started" in NC would literally be funding her final overdose. She should not get a dime until she is in a clinic and discharged with a clean bill of health, THEN get receipts for every penny sent to the family

If he had simply called the so-called funeral home to tell them that he would pay associated fees for the funeral, then this abominable creature who calls herself his daughter would not have been able to pull off the scam on the one person in the world who took an interest in their family and has bettered their lives exponentially. I have met Mark Laita’s sister and kinder person and a the Laita’s are honorable people. One of the reasons Mark began this channel was because he wanted to try to help people in a small way, and in the effort of helping marginalized people, he wanted to shine a light on the circumstances that some people find themselves. It was a way to help people avoid making similar mistakes. Shame on this woman for doing this!

It gets tricky when drugs are involved. Addiction is a very self serving illness. People are willing to traffic their own children to avoid getting sick and withdrawing. Then sobering up and facing the damage that affects so many people. It’s a vicious cycle. I hope they get well.

First off it’s the other way around, he’s using them… i could even argue he’s exploiting them. A mental person can get away with murder easy but being told to say “Larry is dead” because a family member told you to is too far? Those are the two of the worst drugs to get off of ,moving is not gonna do it. She needs in treatment for months . This ain’t going away anytime soon. They all think moving is going to do it . They either overdose end up in jail as a disease progresses. She needs in treatment. The only way I would help his family is if I purchased what they needed I would pay for treatment for her no more cash giving but that’s me.

Am I the only one that thought giving them money was a bad idea from the start? Buying them food and clothes is one thing but giving them cash is just a bad idea.
Nope! Betty and Larry taking advantage of the donations was obvious for a very long time. People are just so desperate to virtue signal that they feel the need to equate disability with quality of character. People are people- there will always be good ones and bad ones. Mental deficiency doesn’t overwrite that, but usually exacerbates it.

As one of the donors, I believed I was giving to provide this family with a decent home. I don’t blame you Mark but I’m sad that the money wasn’t set up in a trust with a local lawyer in charge of administering funds. The money should never go directly to Betty or anyone else in this family. They are simply not capable of making good decisions and never will be. Sad.

Did Mark know that Larry wasn't dead though? Mark asked Betty and Betty said Larry had died. And Betty is Larry's sister, so I guess I would not believe that someone's SISTER would lie or not know that they died.
Example, if my brother told me he found out that my sister had died and I contacted my mom and my mom ALSO confirmed that my sister had died. Then I would have no real reason not to believe that my sister had died. Even though my mom is shady and lies about things sometimes, you would have to be pretty evil to LIE about someone dying.

I was on Methadone. They make you sign a contract, with very strict rules and conditions. Coming off drugs can be deadly, and coming off Methadone is dangerous as well. You can not imagine how sick you can get. I was nearly hospitalized when i came off Methadone. Getting clean from drugs is one of the hardest things on earth to do. And if you successfully get clean, it is a DAILY battle to stay clean. I wish BJ the best of luck and am sending her all tje strength and best wishes i can. I hope she can get her life back.
I’ve been in recovery for a little over 5 years from heroin addiction. I can honestly say that the absolute worst thing you could do for BJ in give her money! I don’t know her from a hole in the wall, but as an addict I can guarantee if you give her even $20 it will go towards drugs. If you really want to help her, get her some out patient rehab. If she doesn’t show for those, you know she’s not serious about getting clean. She needs to get to the point where she wants to do it for herself. Do NOT give her one more dime because she will definitely use it on drugs.
In the video where Mark said he would give her a couple thousand dollars to get to North Carolina , I’d bet my life on it that she was smiling inside knowing that she smoozed him again. Unfortunately, BJ needs to be left to support her own drug habit if that’s what she wants to do. She will eventually get exhausted and hit rock bottom and want help. Get her rehab, NOT money! Tough love is the only way to deal with addicts and I know that from first hand experience! Enabling is the worst thing you could do! Sorry for the rant!

This is so unbelievably frustrating to watch. I’ve been following the whittakers since you started chronicling them. I was a bit behind in watching so I viewed the state fair video and then this one. It’s only because you have interviewed so many people with addiction that you can have any insight as to the lengths people will go for their addiction.
I’m 15 years sober from alcohol and I didn’t do a lot of things that that I hear people talking about, BUT those things are only a matter of time if I go back out and it’s no different for anyone with addictions.
I knew you helped them out here and there but over 100k??? I would not give her a dime. Not because she faked her father’s death but because she will always have someone to fall back on and will be robbed from the gift of desperation.

A normal response from someone not knowing anything would be like what the hell are you even talking about and being surprised and not understanding the question. Larry’s been in on it. He didn’t even live across the road from them until Mark starting coming around and helping the others. I didn’t trust him or the rest of his clan when the first started showing up. Kevin is the most trustworthy person in the family other than Timmy, Loraine and Ray who are just kind souls who are clearly clueless about money and drama

I wouldn’t be surprised if he hasn’t gotten a huge cut and has thousands of dollars buried out there somewhere. There’s no way they’ve burned up 150,000 dollars in just drugs in that short amount of time. Larry has a stash I bet.

Ill always help people, but I have had to set firm boundaries, because the majority of people who Ive helped/help are homeless and have been and probably always will be, because they show you, rather fast, why. They have almost certainly burned every bridge, thoroughly. It sucks and I still feel bad for them, but I have to make sure my home and family are safe before anything and I was, at one point, really putting myself out there, inviting people in my home, and unfortunately, Ive been screwed over, more often than not. I know mark was the first but how many people swing by they’re place now?
