Jack Ma is likely the most iconic Chinese billionaire in the world having founded Alibaba and the Ant Group. Over the years, Jack has managed to build over a trillion dollars worth of market value between his companies; however, things haven’t been that great for Jack over the past two years. You see, in late 2020, Jack decided to publicly criticize the CCP’s financial system. He tried to be as cautious as possible and even placed a disclaimer before his statement. He said that he was probably wrong and that he likely didn’t know what he was talking about before offering his criticism. But, the CCP wasn’t a big fan of his speech or his disclaimer. Jack would be called into a closed-door meeting with CCP officials a few days later, and ever since then, Jack’s life has only been downhill. The CCP stopped the Ant Group IPO and has been forcing Jack to hand over control of the company to the CCP. Meanwhile, Alibaba has been pummeled with investigations and fines, and they have been forced to donate over $10 billion to the CCP. The CCP has also gone after Jack’s legacy, forcing him to disassociate himself from his own university. This video explains the downfall of Jack Ma and why you should never mess with the CCP.

Jack Ma is proof (hopefully living proof) that disappearing can still happen. Even the wealthiest man in China (and the world) can criticize the leadership style of his country and never be seen again under suspicious circumstances without so much of a deal being made of it. In a country where the people have been trained since birth to never get involved in the affairs of others (that's the government's job), no amount of high-profile plain-as-day disappearances can begin pushback.
Peng Shuai was an even scarier example of this. Being seen a few times with the same man standing behind her all hours of the day, no access to communication without physical monitoring.
That means the only way the CCP could be lose power is not politically but by coup d'etat
Don't simp for billionaires. China is simply reeling in the oligarchs before they gain too much political power.
A high profile business leader may not criticize the party or the country. A lowly working class person can do it at work, at home, wherever he goes. That is the contradiction of China.
As long as he doesn't do it online, as long as it doesn't get viral, nobody cares. The explanation is simple common sense. If you don't have a big bull horn, you have no influence, nobody cares what you do. Not even the CCP.
_If they can do it to a billionaire, they can do it to me_ is the wrong way to look at it. Whatever happens, they can do anything to you. Putting rich people on a pedestal and giving them extra privileges will not help you. You are not one of them. These extra privileges we see in our own countries that the rich have, does not exist in China. Our boss can fire us, but nobody can fire our boss if they own the company. Not true in China!
@@danielch6662 So you believe you and me should be denied your right to gain political power? You believe that only those who are born of or endorced by Emperor Xi should be allowed to gain political power? I don't believe anyone should be disappeared, fired, or whatever for political beliefs or power.
@@dylangtech Democracy has many flaws but one positive side of it is that it listen to criticism to do better tomorrow.
I can't see Daniel's comment anymore (RUclips moment) but as a PSA to everyone else, he provided an argument I've never heard of before: He argued that Jack was disappeared because he was gaining political power, and that ordinary people should not have any political power. He compared it to the US where wealthy people can influence politicians more than the poor. It's a communist talking point that I do not agree with. Social media, especially Twitter, does this a lot by applying much more strict rules to powerful people instead of powerless people, and we see the collapse of any ability to challenge the oligarchs here in the US. If anything grassroots springs up, unpersoning and disappearing is the lawnmower.
I am always surprised & even impressed, not to mention shocked on how the CCP is so willing and able to protect their own agenda even if it means guaranteeing the demise of country’s best and brightest companies and/or individuals. But I suppose any players in that arena should know above all else who makes the rules
CCP saw how USSR collapsed by trying to reform for the better future. Ideology is extremely important for China’s existence.
@@XD-qx6sq The stupid thing about CCP is that they don't realize that they can only pull off 1 economic pull.
After that try, you burn through all your baby boom, the country's resources (the world, in this case), and through the global good faith. Example: all the non-replaceable sand they consumed, to build their own economic demise (unprofitable infrastructure, and pyramid real estate schemes)

China is collapsing now.
Thier banking sector, real estate sector all are in trouble.
If they only took Jack's comments positively, story would have been a lot different.
This is wishful thinking. The CCP can weather a real estate recession, and their governments (and it is appropriate to think of China as having many governments) generally speaking will absorb the hardship. Even if a few go bankrupt, it won't bring down the central government.
These provincial governments don't tax the population very much. They have relied instead on receiving payments for long-term (but not permanent) allocation of land.
China has room to raise taxes on its population. The government's credit is not at risk at all.

You are correct about the irresponsible lending of money in the West, however our market systems are far more robust than what China has, and people are free to explore innovative ideas. Which means, any economic shock will be tackled far more successfully in the West than in restrictive China.
Hmm. I didn’t interpret Jacks gap filling comment like that. He meant China is trying to copy everything. But they still have gaps the CCP wants filled.
I think what Jack meant was that they should just forget about copying being independent in everything and look for future technology. Implying, they should trade and innovate like the other mature economies do.

Considering the entire country's on the verge of collapse...😂
China's current situation is grossly exaggerated doofus
This impression is generated by media bias. The country may have become somewhat less friendly to business, but there is no plausible replacement for the CCP, nor is there any evidence of powerful regional independence movements that would crumble the country, as happened to The Soviet Union.
It won't crash
The plausable alternative is reforms that allow limited freedom of speech, freedom of association, and drastic limitations on president Xi's power. Xi holds too many powerful offices, and there is no mechanism to authoritatively question his decisions. All of the things I mention, can be accomplished within the present structure of the CCP, but it requires president Xi to stop being arrogant.
President Xi is severly damaging China economy, whilst attempting to fight the West on the economic, as well as the military front. This is madness.

Ant Group was a monopolist in some of its markets-look closely at the history. Suppose Ant Group was a company in the US. The SEC either would not have allowed it to grow into what it became in the first place, or they would've broken it up eventually.
Jack Ma would not have experienced the exact same kind of response personally, but he would've been heavily investigated by multiple government agencies.
Lol they would’ve just been hit with the fine. When’s the last time the US has broken up a major business entity like that?

Having listened to Jack Ma speak, he doesn't seem very intelligent or insightful, it's all branding and cliché. I highly suspect there were CCP insiders in his companies pulling favors to make them appear to perform better than they truly deserved. If he were bright enough to honestly build trillion dollar companies, he would never have publicly criticized the CCP as he did.
Or maybe he is that smart and decided to grow some balls and take a stand against what he saw as Chinese govt restrictions on free speech and a free market
I am more inclined to lean towards your perspective. He has made tons of money, and probably wanted to influence the culture so more people without connections, would have the opportunity to be prosperous.
I assume Jack expected his reasonsble criticisms to be taken on their merits. He makes a lot of sense, and even if he were given favours by the CCP - he has managed to be a roaring global success. Only a few other Chinese business people can claim this.
If the CCP were clever - they would have publicly agreed with Jack comments even if they were angry behind closed doors. They would have allowed Jack, and other successful business people to start limited reforms, but pressure them to claim the CCP designed and manages the reforms. Thus, giving the lion share of the credit to the CCP.
