As someone who occasionally buys small scale equipment from Alibaba, it's important to remember that when a company says something is $0.10, they're typically actually selling it for $1.00 or more. I don't know why they choose to advertise like this, but it's really common. Shipping is also typically insane too, with most smaller products requiring direct-flight shipping.

Came here to say this 👏. The lowest price shown on Alibaba is pretty much never what you'll get unless you maybe order a million units or more. Also usually the higher end of what's advertised is what they'll actually charge for the minimum order. (Like that one shown in the video would likely cost $6.56ea for a MOQ of 200.)

I really wish that Amazon would note country of origin for all of their goods. If you go through reviews (especially for food items) everybody is asking about the country of origin. I prefer not to buy things from specific countries for specific items. For example, I would prefer to buy a mouse or keyboard produced in Taiwan rather than China. I have found that especially keyboards from China are not durable. I would like to know if something is made there rather than the mainland.

I do over $100k/sales per month on Amazon FBA. Two brands, 160 products. This video is largely true, but in selling products its ALL about product selection. Many of my products I did extensive research before launch, and realized it doesn't already exist there. I use proper grammar in my listings to show I'm an AMerican, and not a Chinese seller. Also use only black and white models for that reason as well. The key is getting a strong moat (better listing, more reviews, a great brand image etc) and the marketing expenses fall drastically. Also- as you can sell on less competitive markets like UK, Europe, Japan, Australia, Canada, these fees are MUCH MUCH less, hence more profit.

As someone who actually sells on third-party platforms, I would have to say that those sellers are the most destructive on the platform. Having been to the Guangzhou canton fair, Shenzhen technology fair, Hong Kong Technology fair, Vietnams / Thailand trade show, India's New Delhi manufacturing / trade show, and Japan's manufacturing world, the cost to quality ratio is not that much better anywhere else. Choose to sell products in the higher profit and lower sales category as an unruly number of bad reviews could get you delisted. Choose to sell products that are not electronic, glass or chemical / liquid, or in a gated category. Make sure to read the 1 or 2 star reviews as well. It is the game of economy of scale.

amazon seller here... you pretty much nailed all the main costs of being an amazon seller. I have about 12 product on amazon, each one doing about 100-200 units of sales per month at around 15% gross margin. The biggest cost is Amazon ads. If we were to take that out of the equation, profitability would jump to 45% percent. To solve this problem Amazon needs to (ironically) change their FBA fee structure, and find different ways to boost products to top of page (not via ads, but maybe based on company, quality etc).
Fortunately Amazon is working on autonomous systems that will hopefully drop the cost of fulfillment, which hopefully can get passed down to sellers and customers.
Private labeling is not the problem here. Most of those goods are quite decent and work alright. It the REVIEW system that misleads customers into believing that the product is better than it is. For many of my products, I went through Amazon Vine and instantly got 20-30 5 star reviews. Any seller can tap into this. More over, sellers can BUY fake reviews. I've never done this personally, but just looking at some of the reviews on some products just shows how obviously scammy some sellers can be.

@@AmazingStoryDewd 25%-35% EBITDA? If so you are doing extremely well! I'm okay with that, but I'm on board with you to aim for a little higher (maybe 35%). I think the problem is my ad spend LOL. We spend a LOT on ads. Like I said if we cut back profit would jump to 45%. But then sales aren't guaranteed.

It’s fascinating how this channel post content about subjects I’ve been telling people time and time again. It’s a serious gripe I’ve had with Amazon the past several years and only getting worse.
Years ago you could go on Amazon and find quality products for a quality price. New brands that have now grown enough and moved from Amazon to their own websites now.
Now it’s 95% crappy Chinese products listed for marked up prices. You have to scroll pages and pages and look at reviews just to make sure a purchase is good enough. Often the same product will be listed multiple times.

I agree that this becomes really hit or miss when buying these kinds of products. I've bought quite a few "Chinese knockoffs" that have not only been a fraction of the typical retail price but was actually pretty decent quality (and amazing for the price). For example, I was shopping for a TV mount and Best Buy was asking for up to $300 with even the cheapest being like $100 (maybe a bit less, it was a while ago). I looked on Amazon and bought one that had the motion I needed for like $20 and it was solid metal and good construction for like 5-20% of the price best buy wanted. Now I know best buy is known to be expensive, but that difference is still enormous.

    • @danielch6662
      @danielch6662 2 года назад +4

A TV mount is just a few pieces of metal. Pretty low tech. If the factory is careful in manufacturing, it need not be expensive to produce a high quality product. This is where low salaries matters. There is very little cost savings you can achieve by lowering quality. The reason high quality products are expensive, is because the market can bear it. And if you do your manufacturing in a high salary country, telling your staff to not rush but to take their time and aim for quality can drive costs up pretty fast.
Depending on the size of the ladder, they might be too heavy to ship efficiently/cheaply by courier. Shipping a ton of them to the same Walmart packed onto palettes in standard shipping containers would be cheaper, per unit. Somebody has to pay for postage, and it is always the buyer. Some sellers advertise a low price and hit you on the shipping. Others advertise low/free shipping, and take it in higher prices. No seller is there to lose money on every sale, so end of the day, the buyer always pays. Unless the site is running some promo and you can get some discount codes or rebates on shipping, which comes from the marketing budget, which comes from profits, which comes from what other buyers pays.

      Share what costs what?
Let's say its small use hub
Bulk shipping should be 1$ per kg
Nope if its container shipping its 40000usd per container
So let's say 30 cents kg
So divide by weight it should be 3 cents
Then semi bulk shipping by truck to warehouse
      Should be similar
Let's round to 10 cents total even 20 cents so what
      Next
      Put label put on shelve
Should be about 20 cents even this too much
      Next customer order
? Let's say 15usd per hour someone works
Let's round up to 25 usd to Inc misc expenses
How many products warehouse worker can pick in 1h?
Now it depends a lot if customer order one product or 10 each time
This bring me to big question
Why amazon not offer any discount if customer place order for 10 products?
It's definitely much cheaper per product if order is 10 pieces or 1 piece
This is simple most companies charge 1usd per pickup and 0.3 per additional product
I would be happy to go in store and pickup products and receive for each 50 cents even all day.
Assuming there is tin of orders I know where everything located
But robots do it for them
So far cost should be max 1 to 1.5usd
      Now shipping
      2 big problems
      They ship across all country
I watched one video they ship from california to florida some cheap item
      Of course that is expensive
But let see it this way
Air cargo cost 5usd per kg at most
      Divide item weight 100gram
      It's 5 cents
OK it cost getting item to airport Let's say 50 cents
      50 cents off the airport
50 cents airport to local warehouse at destination
Destination to final delivery 2usd ok its expensive
      2 big problems
      They ship too long distances
Product should be in local warehouse max 300km away from customer
I believe at every major city
Reply its expensive warehouse bla bla
      Combine it with other business
Ask lazy gas station worker in remote place can he store some items and customers can pickup
300km radius should be enough customers so it would make sense for warehouse
Heck even 100km and 50km in major city
In every major city should be amazon warehouse
They know how much and what people order so why not keep most popular items locally
      Finally final destination
Customer can choose pickup at locker should be much cheaper
      Or delivery to door
Last option should be more expensive
If warehouse is locally delivery is to locker if customer order 5 products and 3 pieces of each
It should be much much cheaper
I don't complain if cheap item like 10usd cost 5usd for fulfilment
But I do complain if customer order 10 products 2 copies of each one piece cost say 20usd customer will pat
      Around 60usd in fees
Iherb shipped internationally usa to Europe by DHL for 10usd 1.5kg
Amazon do it locally for 50usd basically
      Jeff is complete clown
I will never understand why customer not get serious discount for multiple products
If there is no discount for 10 products its ripoff
Every other online shop its clear if you order 10 products you get much better per product handling and shipping fee
So I do understand fee for 500gram one item which cost 10usd
But I never understand why I pay same fees if order 10 products

I'm not saying that all off-brand items are inherently bad, not worth trying out or not worth the price, what I'm saying is that Amazon as a platform is not going to give you a meaningful comparison because that would only hurt profits(hence the electronics example in the video).
For all it's convenience(for certain parts of the world, anyway), you simply MUST do your homework before purchasing. If it is an unknown brand with no reviews or even a manufacturer website you shouldn't expect the product to work. Verifying products is not only time consuming it is also very expensive because you need people with credibility and knowledge(a trade platform will require at least a dozen of independent reviewers) so you can bet everything you have that Amazon isn't going to do it.
P.S. This isn't as much of a problem in Europe because regulations exist and Amazon doesn't really function throughout the union, only few select countries.
Also, TL;DW: Amazon scams both the sellers and the customers at the same time.

Amazon's quality has always been hit or miss, and deliveries often get lost in transit.
But they make it so easy to do returns and get refunds that most people deal with it because ordering anything under the sun from one web site is just so super convenient.
And unless you actually want to run an eBay business, buying in bulk from Alibaba is a pain in the poo-poo hole!

The Amazon system is broken without remedy.
There is an handful of websites here in the UK that sells branded, high quality computer items (including dongles) at slightly higher prices than Amazon, but it is high quality high performance items, and are shipped overnight.
People buy from Amazon because they don't have to enter all the details like address and card number, but it is an expensive form of laziness.
You're also right on the self-gratification issue, so they seek the item without doing any due diligence.
I realise I represent a minority, though; and this is the fortune of Amazon...

Used to order on Amazon more a few years ago, but now barely use it. They used to have products from reputable brands at lower prices, but now you can often get better deals at places like Best Buy or target. Without any price advantage, there's no reason to order online and wait for delivery. And now Amazon is full of overpriced Alibaba products from some brand that's just some random string of letters.

You mention it being good for buying name brand products, but the problem is they sell fake products too. Not long ago I bought some allegedly Hanes pajama pants directly from Amazon, but comparing to my existing ones despite having the same product identifier the difference was clear and when attempting to wash them they basically disintegrated. And since they co-mingle the inventory its nearly impossible to track down that stuff.

I purchase from Amazon at least weekly. Often more. I have never had a bad purchase from Amazon in my many years as a customer. One of the things we as users can do to help the situation is to avoid clicking on sponsored items. I never do. This will help keep our costs down as consumers. It will also demotivate sellers from buying amazon ads.

I don't shop on Amazon anymore. I haven't for years. And I don't ever plan on ever ordering anything from Amazon ever again.
I got tired of ordering things, and they not being what they were supposed to be when I got them.. A pair of Bluetooth earbuds that had a battery so small it only lasted long enough to turn them on and pair them, then they'd say low battery and turn off.. a 256gig SD card that was really only 4gigs (twice).. a USB thumb drive that was just a plastic case with a little rack glued inside of it.. a USB hub that didn't have any of the wires soldered...
I don't care how good the customer service is, I don't want my money back or a replacement (especially when the replacement is just more trash)... I want what I ordered in the first place.
Never happens when I order things from walmart.

I'm sorry but this entire episode the same thought was going through my mind "if you have a problem with quality, consider spending slightly more on a higher quality product from a company with a track record"
My man said he's bought four dongles all of which broke and I feel like the odd one out when my thinking is obviously buying cheap off label dongles is not the correct move. And instead of crossing my fingers and buying a fifth cheap one maybe invest in additional $15 or $20 for a high quality one.
Next, unless the narrator is some sort of alien, who in their right mind ever order something from Amazon without reading reviews first? I don't think I've ever met someone including my grandparents that would click on an Amazon ad, read no reviews coming with no prior knowledge of the company and say yeah that looks good and place an order. If you were normal mode of operation is to check reviews after your product has already become defective you have already lost me logically.
Lastly, if it's so easy to order 200 dongles for $40 then why not save yourself having to reorder something four times and pay what I would assume as well over $40 in shipping/base cost for four defective products, and at least have the luxury of having 200 individual items. If it was that easy everyone would do it, it's not, it's not convenient, it's not practical, it's not logical so do yourself a favor people don't be like this guy and find yourself placing a fifth order for any sort of product regardless of what it is hoping this one will be different. We're at the very minimum normal rational person and at least read the reviews. Like bruh

I guess it's a problem for the same government that you don't want to pay taxes to so that it can do it, in the best Walmart style let the stupid pay the bills; don't you realize that the debts continue to be charged to the country's “credit card” for which you and your family will have to pay interest every month, maybe forever? I just want add, as an Amazon zealot since 2014, the recent move to using USPS for rural deliveries (so it doesn't have to pay UPS) is a DISASTER. Rural POs in the US are totally undersized and understaffed to handle the package volumes. And don't get me started on the lack of shipping software update required to differentiate between a package that will fit in a standard US mailbox versus one that UPS can just leave on the porch!

Amazon customers do not mind paying all the fees that exist, what interests them is buying the item and having it at home in 1 hour or less. Amazon customers are also not interested in the fact that Amazon has bankrupted thousands of small businesses with predatory practices, nor are they interested in how they treat their employees in the warehouses or those who deliver the packages, or what benefits they have, or what disgusting salaries they have. Amazon customers are only interested in seeing Jeff be a billionaire and spend millions of dollars while those who shop at Amazon spend thousands of dollars on things they don't even need and blow up their credit cards then we see them in the collection company looking to see how do they pay

Amazon logistics sucks. I live in South America and have been buying things from then since when they sold books shipped by Jeff Bezos himself. The way to get things from them is having packages shipped to a Miami.FL based courier service which in turn ships them to me on a weekly basis. This part works 100%. Some months ago (May 2022) I bought a PC graphics card. Acdcording to Amazon logistics they have delivered a package to the courier front desk by the next day (Prime membership) and I have a letter from the courier asserting it was not, among other complains from other customers who did not receive their packages either. Customer Support has been useless and so I filed a dispute refusing to aknowledge the credit card payment obligation. Dispute is still on, so will see how it ends. This was not the first time a package was marked as delivered but actually it was not. Those times I got a refund or the goods were sent again and it all ended OK. This time it was not. Beware of their delivery service.
