      I don't know what will happen but what I do know is that Crosby is overflowing with integrity and loyalty. He's a class act, always has been. Like you said, the Penguins drafted him and believed in him. They set him up for success. Success that brought him three Stanley Cups and a litany of other trophies. Apart from the concussions, he's had a dream career. Because of this and because of his integrity, I can almost guarantee that Crosby will tell the owner and management that he will do whatever they think is best (minus a ridiculous pay cut). He'll be open to be traded. He'll be open to stay. So the ball is in the management's and ownership's court.

    The biggest thing that the Pens need to do, that ownership won't let Dubas do, is get rid of Sully. The team just has not responded to him, over the last five seasons, or so. They have a ridiculous number of losses after leading by two, or more, goals, a ridiculous number of losses where they were completely blown out, or didn't even show up, so many costly defensive breakdowns, where the three players closest to the Pens goaltender are opposition players.

    Good organizations let their franchise players close out their careers in one place if that’s what they want. Crosby has given them 3 cups he deserves to be a Penguin for life or explore his options. Strikes me as a guy that is very loyal to Pittsburgh though so that’s where he should stay. They 100% should be trying to get younger and deal everyone else but their core 3 and anchor Karlsson.

    In a interview with Sportsnet, this is what Sidney Crosby had to say about how much longer he’ll play: ‘I’m thinking about three more years and then seeing what happens from there’ that was said in September 2022, it’s been two years already so after next season; he really could be retiring. So maybe not even two more seasons.
    Next season could very well be the last season we see Crosby in the NHL

    • @trvman1
      @trvman1 10 месяцев назад +1

      He will never take a trade having to just finish this season and next season. My guess is he will retire because he knows the Pens are many years away from being a really good team. I am sure he could play longer if he wanted and STILL be one of the best players in the NHL. However, he has nothing to prove. Time to take a couple of years off, enjoy the money, get away from hockey and sit back, relax and then decide what he wants to do.

    • @michaelpostsstuff9958
      @michaelpostsstuff9958 10 месяцев назад +3

      I doubt he retires playing at the level he’s at right now. I can’t see next season being his last unless he takes a significant step back and the Pens fall even further. Even then, I don’t think he’d leave without Malkin and Letang, who each have a decent amount of term left and should be able to play for the next few years.

      @@michaelpostsstuff9958 Malkin and Letang are pretty much done now. Edmonton proved that by running circles around them. Then there’s the time they combined for an empty net own goal. They could still play a role on a contender but both on the same team is a liability.

    With your comparisson to what Dallas did, the difference is that Seguin Was like 29 and Benn was like 31 when they started that rebuild, Crosby and Malkin turns 37 and 38 this summer. I can see a Crosby trade this summer to the Montreal Canadiens. Kent Hugues said he wanted to do big moves, that could be it. The price will be high and most likely not worth it BUT the younger players would probably learn faster with a presence like Crosby around them. I know Crosby loves Pittsburgh but it's like real love, you've gotta learn to let them go if you truly love them. Leave them a legacy, a big return after you leave. Doesn't mean he hates Pittsburgh but that he wants them to do well after he retires. Gotta look at the big picture.

    I don't think he will leave. He loves Pittsburgh too much and I think he wants to follow in Mario's footsteps. I think realistically, if they just offload Malkin and get a decent replacement, they'd have a much easier time consistently winning. They keep trying to find guys that can play on his line, but the problem seems to be him. Every so often, he goes on a great run, but we need someone who is always reliably good, instead of someone who's great occasionally and below average the rest of the time. He just doesn't play with any intensity, makes stupid passes, and takes his sweet time back-checking. Letang is starting to be that way too(he wasn't in a good position for 3/4 of Calgary's goals), but if the offense helped out more, I believe he'd pick it up.

    Pittsburgh's ownership actually has a good situation. They don't have to worry about selling tickets or another financial crisis because Crosby/Malkin will be a draw for another few years (and you can add Karlsson and to a lesser extent Letang to that list as well). I can think of an Iginla-like scenario
    If Sid is on a 60ish points pace next season, he might be talked into getting traded to a contender
    And in the summer will sign another 1-2 year deal with the Pens

    They need a Neal for Hornqvist type trade with Guentzel. I don’t know how many of the buyers would be into that but pens are stale and need different types of players. A new identity. They are too old to run and gun like 2015-2017. Unfortunately their coach and their core don’t realize that.

    Dubas knew that they should punt on this team the day he took the job. But he’s just holding his end of the “keep the band together” stipulation when he was hired. I’ve watched the last three penguins games and they were truly hard to watch. Edmonton humbling them was the cherry on top.

    Crosby is not going anywhere, unless he wants to. PIT will try to extend him, if he wants to continue playing. As they did with Malkin and Letang.
    They were stupid (or desperate) enough to take on Karlson, so they have cap issues.
    If Crosby wants to play for another team, maybe for the Habs, we will go there.
    But it`s likely the Pens pay him for his season, as he is only getting paid 3m this year. He might sign a contract extension after July 1st.

    keep the team the way it is right now, injuries have not helped this season but its no excuse... what needs to happen NOW is preparing for 2-3 years from now when our core is gone and retired, trading the likes of malkin or letang etc is what everyone always jumps too when we are doing not well... but when they are firing on all cylinders everyone is like never trade anyone !!! even though thats when we should trade them as we would get the most value for the trade... trading off a slumping player never helps in the long run

    The only thing stupider than trading Guentzel would be trading Crosby, and I don't think Sid would ask to go. That man is loyal down to his bones. They're better off trading off Jarry (or Ned, but preferably Jarry) to a team desperate for playoff goaltending and moving some of the other pieces like Rakell or Accari for younger prospects and do the Dallas thing rather than a full tear-down/rebuild. A rebuild isn't going to pay off before Sid's done, and he means too much to the city and the team to let his final seasons be a bust. If I'm Kyle Dubas, it's a fire sale on goalies and wingers not named Jake to teams who need depth in exchange for some good kids with experience in the AHL--no one over the age of 26--and hit the ground running next year.

    Sid is fine. Malkin is okay, but he does look hurt to me. It's the kids not following the example set by the old men.
    Now, I am a lifelong Habs fan and Crosby has some kids there he can teach, and there is a home connection.
    I think despite that I think Crosby and Nate are actually freinds.
    Just imagine what he could do with Nick, Cole and Slaffy?
    It's a SICK idea.

    I don't see sid trade happening and feels like if it did it wouldn't be Colorado because sid in my opinion would be second liner in there. I see how great their powerplay would be with makar, rantanen, mackinnon and crosby + best fitting winger but there just isn't place for him without putting mackinnon to a wing which wastes his talents

    Crosby did the pens a favour by signing team friendly contracts his whole career. I'm sure the pens could trade him to a contender and when his contract is up he can sign back with the pens as a UFA to end his career.... I don't see the problem there at all. He will still be considered a lifer Imo.. Look at when plekanec went to Toronto for a playoff push and came back. Different caliber player but he is still considered a hab lifer to me and many others

    The Pens got bad contracts for years. They got slower and slower, less and less athletic and agile in a league that got faster and faster, more athletic and more mobile than ever. The shiny genius pieces from 8 years ago are not cutting it anymore (Malkin, Letang, Karlsson - all three contracts eat up 25% of your salary cap). What boggles the mind is that Dubas thought making the team even a bit slower would somehow help them... Does anyone understand why they got Karlsson relatively cheap? Because 31 other teams didn't want to pay as much for him

  • @jeremyj8153

    Jarry is 2 seasons off of having a Vezina finalist season and he’s only costing the team 5.3mil…. Compared to the Bob or Helle contracts of 8.5+. If Guentzel goes and wins a cup and then re-signs, the Pens look shaped to retool with $12mil in cap space and contend… if not, I wouldn’t be opposed to sending Syd to win a cup with an Edmonton to cement himself as the Canadian GOAT if the pens get a HUAL to compete in 2026 and beyond

    Crosby is great, but the penguins need to see the future, maybe crosby plays into his 40s, maybe. At some point he is going to degrade or retire, and the penguins are not prepping for a team without crosby, and that could kill that team for years if they don't start soon.
