A Little Palace Sir...A credit to your efforts ...your love for the place..your dear companions...from a comfortably settled UK citizen...My compliments on your beautifully appointed Winter abode ...
Hi, I love the way you care for your chickens.. your place is beautiful and so peaceful, don't know if I could live around bears though. I hope you have protection ready at all times. Your sweet companion should alert you to any problem ,so that would be reassuring.
I do have a plan in place and the dogs are my best early warning system. Black bears always have can when I’ve had an encounter with. It’s the grizzly bears that concern me. They don’t run…. Take care and thanks for dropping by…

Wonderful video! Really appreciate you sharing and it's enjoyable seeing how you spend time with your dogs😊 I can also relate to the egg mishap! Best and blessings to you!
Eggs in the sweatshirt pockets: every time I did that I ended up either forgetting they were there or just running into something and breaking one. I learned to carry a basket to the chicken coop! I hear you on the ease of the large waterers, but they get so darn dirty. I was religious about changing water every day or two...and putting a little apple cider vinegar in the water, too. I never let my waterers get green algae. At the very least I would take the waterers outside and clean out the troughs. Animals depend on us for cleanliness and nutrition, and quality of water affects quality of eggs (and milk in cows). Input = output. Just my two cents.
Totally agree. Have to keep a close watch for that and address it before it shows up. I’ve tried apple cider vinegar before but not been thrilled with it. That’s why o bought and extra waterer so I can rotate out and clean and dry one each week. I do need a basket because the last two I broke I forgot where in my pocket and when I took my sweat shirt off they fell out.
I love watching your subscribership inching up with every video (I think you were at around 3,200 when I found your channel). It's the first thing I check on! 😅 You so deserve it. I absolutely love your videos and get so excited when they pop up in my notifications. And Coal is an absolute joy to watch. ❤ ~Jen
@@littlehomeinthevalley thanks! I have been surprised at responses from the videos. I’m thinking of adding some new stuff I’m a bit hesitant to do. I trap and call in predators in the mountains. I spend hours out doing this. What is your thoughts on this type of content?
@Selkirk_Homestead I think it sounds fascinating. I've often watched the channel "Muskrat Outdoors" and he traps. But if you do that, I would continue with the same overall "feel" of your channel, calm, going about your business and taking us along. Do you cook a big breakfast and pack a lunch? Take Coal with you? Like, show your whole process the way you do with other videos, and it could be really fun to watch! Heck, I love watching you go gather branches and send them through the chipper! 😂 I'd love to see a trapping video! ~ Jen
@Selkirk_Homestead I don't know how much you would show, but I'd be careful with it. Maybe don't show the actual killing of an animal. Maybe just talk about how you do it without showing too much, if that makes sense. It does stray a little from your current content, so yeah, maybe just be cautious about how much of that you show your viewers. While my husband and I would find it interesting, we can't speak for all your viewers, so you do run the risk of losing subscribers, I guess. But again, I think if you just show a little of your process and mostly just explain it to your viewers, it could be very interesting to watch.
> am interested in how you repair the bear hole. I saw a process on RUclips using CA glue steel wool and a soldering iron. Going to try it out on my washer fluid bottle in the car. Stay warm
It's cold and snowy, but the fire in the stove is comforting. The bear is not comforting. I have snakes, armadillos, possums, coyotes, skunks, and bobcats. That is enough for me to deal with. I'd be carrying if I had to go outside where bears like to roam. Yikes!! keep those chickens warm and healthy!
I am telling you that Peat Moss is a better choice for bedding, smell , cool down for fertilizer and keeps birds more healthy. Preaching in the Wilderness but Peat Moss is a wonderful and natural.product.
Your breathing sounds labored. Hopefully it's just very cold air and not your health. The most eggs I ever dropped was an entire dozen, the store container fell open, and though quite a few bounced out, only 2 broke. However! Twice in my life I was boiling eggs and forgot to set the timer; hence, not only two pans went black and destroyed, but also the smell in the place took a few days to go away. Even then, it hid in the clean kitchen towels and curtains for ever so long. lol
