Love metal detecting but like others said, there are so many doing it now that it is hard to find much. I live in Florida and live hitting the beaches. I meet so many nice people there. Wish we lived closer. We have a lot in common as I like fishing too.

It is an excellent hobby. One of my cousins and her husband came for a visit. When the husband discovered the property had been in the family since 1943, he was anxious to metal-detect it. In my front yard, he found a button from a Union soldier's uniform and a Civil War-era bullet. He and my cousin were big into Civil War reenactments and were pleased to have found them. I keep them in a small archival box.

HA HA! I see this all winter long across the street on the beach! It's an easier dig in the sand. But Buzz you'd have to find a lot of quarters to break even on this hobby. But hey you're having fun and getting some exercise! All good!

Gave Gramps a metal detector for his birthday one year because he had a small gold claim that he visited occasionally. In the end he didn't use the detector at the claim but on the logs, he ran thru his sawmill. A big nail that was used for a fence or an insulator for a power line embedded into the log could do real damage to his saw blade.

Used to dig holes as kids all the time, mostly would find sharks teeth on the beach in Florida but dreamt of Spanish treasure. In TX now and have a very old downtown area that I'd love to metal detect along with some older sites close by. Similar setup as you, except I use a beginner metal detector. I looked up my detector online and Amazon has it marked 52% off for a whopping total of 71 bucks...LOL. I've used it successfully around the house and it works, says it has a waterproof coil as well. Hopefully, I wasn't one and done and can get excited about finding treasure again.
