On drums, Harold "Doc" West. I wasn't familiar with him and from the photo thought it might be Jo Jones. Coincidentally, West occasionally filled in for Jones, probably seamlessly. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doc_West
here we see very clerly the Benny Carter influence on Bird. Listen To Benny 's records and you will immediately see it (mor nbtter, hear it). Bird did not fall from the sky.
@@germansurdey6525 Good insight. Bird does get deified. As you point out, he learned from others and had influences. Thanks for sending me off to listen to more Benny Carter. So much good music out there. It's unfortunate more people don't appreciate it!

I don't think anyone would confuse Charlie Parker for Benny Carter. Both great, but bird had his own sound.
@@AC-uw2hg i am talking about the influence.like Dizzy Gillespie's was Roy Eldridge.

@@AC-uw2hg thanks.jazz is wonderful.
Tiny Grimes sounds like Charlie Christian.
Perhaps it's Christian who sounded like Tiny Grimes... an intriguing thought, indeed..
@@BrianKlobyGuitar Maybe so?They were born in the same year.
@@BrianKlobyGuitar Wrong. Tiny is known to be a Christian disciple. He changed his style when Charlie turned up. Don't rewrite history!
@@jibsmokestack1 But he used two fewer strings than Charlie.
PHJimY So? His solo style is clearly influenced by Charlie! There is no denying that fact!
Tiny & Bird what a combination!
a great one
Great stuff, thanks for that.
