Mr. Hitchens was a man of impeccable integrity. He is greatly missed, especially in this time of "alternative facts" and sedition at the highest level.
Christopher Hitchens was a socialist of the Trotsky variety. Hitchens had always had a rather indulgent view towards colonialism, lamenting the decline of British power. He defended poets and writers who mourned for the days of “the sun that never sets” with its concentration camps, famines and massacres. Hitchens’ rhetoric serves a “leftist” case to defend the Bush administration’s imperialist and genocidal venture in Iraq as a war of liberation. Hitchens was one of the lowest form of slime. The more one gets to know him, you find he was even worse than first suspected. He had to anaesthetise himself with extreme alcoholism.

We have a corrupt system, perhaps better than most political systems around the world, but still deeply flawed. Unless we magically alter the financing of campaigns, nothing will ever change. Related to this interview, it is significant that Hitchens was so spot on in his analysis of the Clintons, Mother Theresa, etc., though I think he was flat wrong on Iraq. The sordid details described here are quite sad in themselves, as well as in the wake they caused...with some added flavoring by the questioner himself, Charlie Rose. Is there no one left out there who is plainly decent? Jimmy Carter seems to be about it and look at how he's viewed, as incompetent and ineffectual...
@@GebreMMII Well, with reports out of the Middle East talking about truck loads of cash disappearing without a trace, supposedly to influence (bribe) various tribal groups or others, the dollar amounts almost become superfluous. Me too, however I think he pulled the cart to the middle of the road from wherever he started -- which is incredibly important, and could be labeled intelligent, since no one knows much truthfully about the way the entire world functions and just being able to see the other side and avoid extremes is basically all one can hope to do -- I'm afraid we'd see him pointing out Trump's strengths. Trump does have strengths. I can say that despite being more strongly opposed to him than I've ever been to anyone in my life. My point being it would be extremely sad if I found out that hitchens would do that, were he still around. On the topic of god, he was never wrong because that's a very black and white issue, and his eloquence and contribution is unmatched. Politically I'm afraid he might be the type to not see the forest for the trees, due to being so well traveled and experienced; he possibly might have thought it was more about giving the benefit of the doubt to the perceived underdog, or loser or however he might want to describe someone like trump, when Trump should really only be described as the biggest piece of garbage to ever walk on two feet. Genuinely just trying to get someone else's thoughts on what hitch might really say about the way things are now. Not being condescending at all. Like I said my whole thing is being open to the possibilty that I'm wrong, and the certainty that I don't know much honestly.
In light of the revelations regarding Mr. Rose's own behavior many years later one can almost sense his discomfort at Hitch's dissection of Bill Clinton.
It's his job as a good interviewer to challenge guests points. The sole fact that he had Hitchens as guest multiple times disproves your libel. If you not open to debate you should stick to propaganda videos.
Keep in mind, Rose was already amassing sexual harassment incidents at the time of this airing and Epstein would be providing him recommendations for female staffers for years to come. All details which would take years to come to light.

Rose refusing to listen to and accept downright FACTS that Hitchens is laying out is just disgusting, but typical in today's mainstream media. Hitchens handles him well and makes him sound like a rookie interviewer who just has a 'gottcha' agenda to grind. Well done, Mr. Hitchens as you rest in well-deserved peace. 👍🙏
Yeah its the craziest part. Hitchens reacts and observes Rose stumble as he bends over backwards to unusually and excessively defend Clinton turning politician himself, then quickly wrap up the interview. The look Hitchens gives is incredibly telling.
I thought that look may very well have been an "aha" moment. The smile indicating that Hitchen's has figured out that Rose is a sexual predator too. Too much credit????
Charlie keeps asking Hitch if he is wrapped up in mania about Clinton. This guy never thought to ask himself if he, Charlie, was wrapped up in the worship of the Clintons.
Charlie repeating that simplistic, grade-school question was a sign of a TV host who hadn't done his homework -- and was not ready for the flood of evidence and rational argument that Hitchens brought to the table that day. Charlie had that high-paying PBS job for life, even though he was a sleepwalker in a great many of the interviews over the decades.
@Jazzkeyboardist1 You have a major hard-on for this random conspiracy theory about Hitchens. You seem to be implying that he was raped as a young boy in school and somehow this makes him a bad person? How about some evidence? To quote the man himself, extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence, claims without evidence can be dismissed without evidence.
@Jazzkeyboardist1 a persons sex life is private. I don't understand why him having a few sexual experiences with a man is relevant to any of his criticisms of the Clintons. Unless of course they were affairs during a marriage, which I doubt since he wasa school boy at the time he had the encounter with the school boy. Your only substantial criticism of him is his support of the Iraq war. Who cares? Surely the outcome was horrible and the rationale was proven false, doesn't change the fact that Saddam was a steaming pile of shit that deserved his short drop off the planet. @broomsterm CH would have obliterated that stupid logic for sure. Why does US harbour so many ignorant people? My theory is that religion makes the brain susceptible for right wing propaganda. Are you a Christian?
When I first saw this interview, it was before Rose was outed. I thought Hitchens' smirk at the end was because he had crushed Rose in debate. But as a Washington insider, Hitchens had no doubt heard all the rumors about Rose as sexual predator, so likely saw Rose's deflation as much about that as taking apart his defense of the Clintons. .

On every subject? Seriously? Hitchens was smart, no doubt. But hardly does he speak for all of who are rational, God-fearing true Christians. If he {Hitchens} were truly an intellect like so many groveling half-witted people think that he was, he would still be alive; he would have been smart enough to stay away from the cigarettes and the scotch. But ah, he wasn't that smart after all, was he? He poisoned himself to the point of hastening his trip to the grave. But he'll be back in the resurrection {John 5:28,29} and then he will be forced to admit that Almighty God actually exists. Yet he spent so much effort denying that there is a creator and higher power. Only a fool denies the existence of God...{Psalms 14:1}

A truly penetrating and articulate--and opinionated, granted--intellect. He judged, but based his judgements on facts, intellectual honesty, and a quest for Truth. Gone way too soon.
I always wondered why Charlie Rose was ever considered anything above a quite mediocre journalist and horrible interviewer. Now I know. I am stunned that this interview is available. It is a lavish exposition of Hitchens' incredible intellect, as it is an indictment of Rose's very limited abilities. Absolutely shameful. His fawning idolatry of Clinton is entirely indefensible. RIP Hitch. You were alone at the top.
Not to brag. But I was pretty much the only person saying what a blabber mouth shitty mediocrity of an interviewer Rose was for the last 20 years. No one would say it. He had dumb people under the impression that he was good, just because he talked alot I guess. Where were you on the topic 20-25 years ago Alexander? No one said anything because Rose was the gateway to book sales.
Alexander, just read your post (a year later, I know). Hitchens possessed a keen mind and the courage to back it up. Anyway, this was supposed to be an interview on the views of Mr. Hitchens. Instead, it turned out to be Charlie Rose doing most of the talking and most of the objecting. Charlie sounded like a corrupt lawyer for Clinton. I fail to see where Charlie was a competent interviewer (at least in this interview).
cerberusdest this is of course before Bush Jr. Hitchens was far more critical of him and Cheney. I dare say he’d have found a new level of bottomless for Trump.
Christopher Hitchens...you are 100% vindicated. Your facts, time and events are spot on regarding Bill Clinton. Rest in Peace. ✝️ Honesty & Truth Lives.

He had dumb people under the impression that he was good, just because he talked alot I guess. Where were you on the topic 20-25 years ago Alexander? No one said anything because Rose was the gateway to book sales.
@@Frip36 I was at my parents dinner table, calling them morons.
Almost all of them are mediocre, overpayed, and unnecessary. Actually calling them mediocre is being generous.
Wow....very well written! (I'm only 1 year late - lol.)
I laughed out loud when Hitch supplies the words 'bottomless contempt' for Charlie
Me too lol
Time stamp please?
It was brilliant
cerberusdest this is of course before Bush Jr. Hitchens was far more critical of him and Cheney. I dare say he’d have found a new level of bottomless for Trump.
@@tyqwdybijo rewatch, lazy shit!
Sexual predation in politics and the media is like a fraternity, and Charlie rabidly defends his brothers.
Christopher Hitchens...you are 100% vindicated.
Your facts, time and events are spot on regarding Bill Clinton.
Rest in Peace. ✝️
Honesty & Truth Lives.
Charlie Rose is simply unbearable in this interview. Let the man answer your questions without constant interruptions.
Yes, I agree. Terrible interviewer. Turns it into a debate rather than allowing Hitchens to present his ideas.
I notice this happens more often with hitchens when he goes on a show with a talking head and not a fellow academic.
All Charlie Rose interviews are like this. Even if he agrees with the person he is constantly interrupting mid sentence.
I wish there were more truth tellers like Christopher
There are the mainstream media is just silencing them all.
try John Pilger - he seems just as on point and outspoken about all the things your average journalist doesn't dare to address from that angle
People don't like truth tellers. Especially when their own lies and delusions are being targeted.
for real. 110% true dude
Plenty out there. They just learned to stay quiet so as not meet the same fate.
I love how current he is, even now.
Always
Truly timeless
Man... 3 yrs later (refrring to the last time I watched this a made a comment in it) and the ending of this interview is still just 👌 spectacular!
😂
My respect for this man continues to grow and grow.
In this interview, Charlie Rose is the epitome of the modern American journalist. It's plain that he's more worried about keeping his job than exposing the truth.
IF ONLY we still had this Gentleman in our lives. I would love to hear his thoughts on the last decade! Especially the last 5!!!
Indeed
