Or, he's actually just channeling electricity from the machines around him, like waterbenders can draw water from the air and plants. It could be that self-generated lighting is inherently stronger and more dangerous than channeled electricity. Mako is never shown going through the steps for lightning generation, and when he's taking down those vines it looks more like he's drawing electricity from the machines than generating it himself.
I like to think, that the "circle hand" move makes your lightnings stronger. If you don't do this, it could be much weaker. Any time we see lightning bending in ATLA they do this. Mako only did this, when he wanted to destroy the plant (00:16). In this theory he never was really trying to kill anyone (like Ozai or Azula), but stun his enemys instead.
Its not really a weaker royal style more like different in range. With Amon he had to gather lightning quick enough to save Korra. But when destroying the spirt vines he did the motion to gather more than enough to destroy the vines and the longer he does this it takes its toll to his body.
i think mako’s bending often get overlooked bc of the dumb love triangle - hes actually insanely talented being able to bend lightning with the simplest gestures & the one time he charges he overloads a fucking giant robot

I must admit Mako's skill with lightning is very impressive. I haven't seen someone bend lightning so easily and quickly since Azula and Ozai and they were in a generation prodigies.
I don't think so. Mako was used and he had his own arc. We have to also consider that TLOK had 4 different plots and yet it had less episodes. So with this number of episodes, I think Mako's character was used nicely.
@@varunbhat2077 idk he lost almost every fight outside of pro bending. And the fights where he did win were either A. Against thugs or low level fighters B. We’re with other people where Mako only served as an asset to make his teammates bending attacks land on the enemy C. Like one good fight with Ming Hua Mako as a bender, note, a very capable bender( being that he could generate lighting even while being blood bended, something hardly ever seen since only a few characters can bend under the influence of blood bending) isn’t shown to win a lot of fights, which I find odd since he is shown time and time again that he has a well grasp of his fire bending. And his style, while not as effective as other fire benders, is still very interesting and unique. He uses his limbs to extend his fire, and often fights like he is in a street fight. That could have been shown a lot better in the show if they gave Mako a better redemption
I don't get the hate Mako receives. He isn't as terrible as people pretend it. His personality is a result of growing up homeless/on the streets, while taking care of his brother and fighting for his survival as a child by being part of triads, plus his parents got killed right in front of him. Despite his sometimes impulsive but mostly serious/cold/restrained nature and his incapability to deal with his feelings (shown in his relationships with Korra and Asami). Mako truly cares about his loved ones and he is ready to sacrifice everything in order to protect and support them. And Mako is a talented Firebender.
Mako actually lost his ability to bend with that arm because of his injuries, so even if he didn't die, he still sacrificed a lot, probably knowing there was a 99% chance he wouldn't make it either out of the explosion or from maintaining such a huge amount of energy for so long.
I didn't like Mako as much as Bolin, but he had a great arc, was a fully fleshed out older bro, and was a very impressive bender. His sacrifice scene was extremely well done, and in the end, he was there for Korra in all the ways that mattered. Bolin coming back to save him was incredible.
I love that LOK didn’t shy away from murder. Several villains unworthy of redemption are killed. I get that ATLA was made for kids but Aang should have fried Ozai’s ass 🤷♀️
You know, the lightning scene with Amon would've been the best was to reveal he can lightning bend! The excitement from that reveal would've given mixed in with the excitement from Mako beating Amon!
You know it’s funny, one of the characters Grey DeLisle played in avatar was a lightning bender who was defeated by a waterbender The other was a waterbender who was defeated by a lightning bender
That would’ve been impossible though (I also would’ve loved it). The Avatar Cycle is Water, Earth, Fire, then Air. Even after Korra’s death, the next Avatar would be from the Earth Kingdom
Notice how in ATLA lightning bending needed a lot of movement preparation. In quite a few scenes, particularly against Ming Hua, Mako has been able to generate lightning almost instantaneously. The shortest before was Ozai when he used it on Zuko, but if you watch both scenes you'll notice Mako did it much faster. If he truly trained himself I got a feeling Mako could've been the most powerful lightning bender of all time.
@@eesaubaydullah4231 Perhaps they are more powerful, but all the power in the world won't help them if their opponent is faster. As for the comics, it's hard to get a good feel on it because it's just panel by panel, and we're not seeing actual movement. I personally just think Mako is faster than them. Theirs might be more powerful, don't know how that's possible since lightning is lightning, but in a battle, it's not who strikes the most powerful that wins, but who strikes first.
Mako is so skilled with lighting that he can generate it near instantaneously. He only makes the movements to charge it when he needs to gather more power, and he can effortlessly redirect.
10/10 The legend of Korra in the first season I saw that Korra agreed to be the avatar, that's why Korra perfectly controlled Water 🌊, Earth ⛰️ and Fire 🔥 and she only needed to control Air 🌪️, she also had to face the egalitarians who harmed the Benders, in the second season he learned that he could enter the spirit world and could control the spirits and open portals, he also met the first avatar named Wan, who shows us how he became the first avatar, and the duties of maintaining balance in the world and protecting it, in the third season he was able to see that changes were made in the world because he saw some who are not masters of the Earth Kingdom ⛰️ they could be Airbenders 🌪️ and he also searched the Earth Kingdom ⛰️ the new Airbenders 🌪️, Korra also became the first avatar to do Metalbending 🔩 and Bolin was able to do Lavabending 🌋, that's why Korra was able to recover the Air Nation 🌪️ and in the fourth season it was seen or that the Earth Kingdom ⛰️ was in Kuvira's domain because she wanted to turn the kingdom into an empire and that's why Korra had to make more efforts to stop Kuvira, and Kuvira made a huge metal robot to conquer Republic City, because she was in a part of the Earth Kingdom. I prefer Kuvira's robot to Sozin's comet in the final battles and for the finale there was a wedding he had with Zhu Li and Varrick. The Legend of Korra is the Best on Nickelodeon and much better than The Last Airbender.
He wasn't a brilliant boyfriend material but his lightning/firebending was just incredible, boi lightning bent while incapacitated and without moving his hands? wow sir
This show would be solid if there was no love triangle, they toned Bolin down, got rid of Meelo, made Tarlac have good intentions instead of just evil guy, made Amon and his brother work together instead of the overly complicated plot they had, and had more episodes of character interaction and slice of life.
Bloodbending aside, I feel like Amon should've been way more hurt from getting zapped, especially since he was a foot apart from Mako when it happened.
It would be interesting to see just how much damage and burns Mako actually received. Like what if he couldn't fire bend anymore with the arm that got burned do to nerve damage? IDK, just a theory that would be interesting to explore further the dangers of lightning bending.
Korra or katara could fix it if they got to healing immediately so I don't think it would be a problem but maybe the thought of suffering another burn might have an affect mentally on him
I think izumi’s daughter would’ve been too old for him. Seeing as General Iroh II was almost 40 in LOK his sister would’ve also been in her 30’s whereas Mako was only in his early 20’s.
I just realized after watching ATLA again, mako lightning bends pretty often, he rarely uses motions to seperate his energies. Just straight up aim and shoot. Look at general iroh he did a short motion (probs on par with ozai's speed on the confrontation scene with zuko). But mako? He literally just goes haha electricity go brrrr I mean look at when he electrocuted amon
I think we should categorize the lightning bending in Korra as electricity bending. I know its dumb but the lightning bending in Korra is more weaker yet controlled.
@Henry Okoro indeed he did but all a person ever had to do is lose feelings and not live based of anyone else neither by will or love to fly it’s simply done if a person is very independent Azula could’ve done it since she was emotionally stable to keep attacking but since she was steady that’s only if she was an air bender yk
Does anyone find it weird that lightning bending is a very difficult form of firebending and they’re just casually using it to power stuff. Like wouldn’t it be easier and cheaper to just have regular fire benders power a steam engine and just power stuff that way or water benders and a water mill?
LoK is 70 years apart from atla, technology has evolved a lot, mainly on Republic City, to the point where manual (or in this case bender) work isn't needed anymore
dude if they've already learned how to lightning bend then it wouldn't make sense for it to still be difficult for them, especially if they're able to use lightning without long hand movements like mako and most likely other lightning benders too. Also this was during modern times where they had technology, thats powered by electricity of course lol
You know. Dumb love triangle aside. He was a very talented bender. I wish they utilized him more in this way.

@@ObiWanKenobi420 seems like it charges up the lighting

I must admit Mako's skill with lightning is very impressive. I haven't seen someone bend lightning so easily and quickly since Azula and Ozai and they were in a generation prodigies.
Mako is by far one of my favourite characters in LoK, his willingness to sacrifice himself to take down the core is truly commendable.
same, i love them all but my favorite character by miles
Can we all just appreciate that Ming-Hua went out in a blaze of water bending glory
I've been looking up Mako lightning bending every few months for years searching for a video like this. Thank you for uploading!
He’s my favorite LoK character
Yeah ❤️
I felt so bad for the way the writers treated Mako. So much wasted potential.
I don't think so. Mako was used and he had his own arc. We have to also consider that TLOK had 4 different plots and yet it had less episodes. So with this number of episodes, I think Mako's character was used nicely.
@@varunbhat2077 idk he lost almost every fight outside of pro bending. And the fights where he did win were either
A. Against thugs or low level fighters
B. We’re with other people where Mako only served as an asset to make his teammates bending attacks land on the enemy
C. Like one good fight with Ming Hua
Mako as a bender, note, a very capable bender( being that he could generate lighting even while being blood bended, something hardly ever seen since only a few characters can bend under the influence of blood bending) isn’t shown to win a lot of fights, which I find odd since he is shown time and time again that he has a well grasp of his fire bending.
I don’t understand how people hated that lightning bending became more common I think it’s a cooler subelement and should have been used more often

I didn't like Mako as much as Bolin, but he had a great arc, was a fully fleshed out older bro, and was a very impressive bender. His sacrifice scene was extremely well done, and in the end, he was there for Korra in all the ways that mattered. Bolin coming back to save him was incredible.

Can we all argue that the music during Mako shooting lighting at the vines is amazing?
Notice how in ATLA lightning bending needed a lot of movement preparation. In quite a few scenes, particularly against Ming Hua, Mako has been able to generate lightning almost instantaneously. The shortest before was Ozai when he used it on Zuko, but if you watch both scenes you'll notice Mako did it much faster. If he truly trained himself I got a feeling Mako could've been the most powerful lightning bender of all time.
I think he already was the most powerful lightning bender
@@isaacnydegger6334 no azula

@@isaacnydegger6334 azula and ozai have more powerful lightning
It's weird to see A Firebender to use lightning for good
Indeed, every lightningbender so far has been evil or a criminal, yet here comes Mako, a former criminal, now using it to fight evil.
Mako is very talented. Imagine if he were trained by the likes of General Iroh II and Zuko, he might surpass korra in Firebending
He could obviously 😂😂cuz Korra focuses on all elements not just fire and her strongest isn’t fire
He was barely even able to shoot it. He was bloodbended, he couldn't even move.

Redeemed from what?
First time watching this it looked like mako was gonna die when he blew up Kurviras spirit vine.
It would be interesting to see just how much damage and burns Mako actually received. Like what if he couldn't fire bend anymore with the arm that got burned do to nerve damage? IDK, just a theory that would be interesting to explore further the dangers of lightning bending.
Korra or katara could fix it if they got to healing immediately so I don't think it would be a problem but maybe the thought of suffering another burn might have an affect mentally on him
mako reminds me of zuko. always frustrated, contemplating life and just angry.
atla: only some people learning how to bend lightning
tlok: 12938383838393 people knowing how to bend lightning
not really...
Nah, it was pretty much just Mako. In ATLA, Ozai, Azula and Iroh knew that technique.
they did dirty when they show lightning benders used for generators. damn
Palpatine: w e a k
In ATLAB lighting bending was not used as much so when it was used it was bad ass. In the LOK it's used so often that it's not as cool anymore 🤷🏽♂️
My favorite Avatar Chad was done dirty in the finally. Izumi had a daughter you know. That would've been his love interest.
I like Mako!
