    Agreed, this was a much better film in almost every way. I remember going to see "Top Gun" when it was released in 1986 and it really was a special film for sure. Something that had never been done in the "modern age" of film. That being said, I was really surprised at just how good this film was and how glad I was that Tom Cruise fought so hard to keep in on hold for years so that it could be released in theaters.

    Very good reaction, ma'am. This is the best movie I have seen in years, and the first one I have gone to see 4 times in the theatre in a very long time. Loved how you understood all the humor, the nastalga, the suspense, the action, the romance, the weepy parts. Got a tear when Kilmer died, even watching your review. Enjoyed your reaction. You have a great giggle.

    When the original came out in '86, I was a teenager. My parents were both in the Navy, and knew I was obsessed with fighter jets. They took me to see the movie, and I was ecstatic. Next morning, my Dad woke me up before dawn, loaded me into his truck, and drove me to NAS (Naval Air Station) Oceana, where he worked. It's the East Coast's master jet base. Dad drove me to the Air Operations building (where the control tower is, right on the flight line), sat me down on the back porch, handed me a couple of rolls of quarters for the vending machines, and a disposable camera. I spent the whole morning taking pics of the jets, and a couple of pilots even gave me their squadron patches. One of the best days if my life! Nearly 40 years later, I'm still a massive military aircraft fanboy.

    Sequels are rarely as good as the first but this one is an exception to that. This was 35 years in the making and it is great that the actors actually flew in real jets along with a trained pilot of course. This made the film more immersive and the fact that Tom Cruise is a licensed pilot helped with the other actors' training. The P51 at the end is actually owned by Tom and the end scenes were actually him flying. Jennifer has a fear of flying so kudos to her for putting hear fear behind her for the sake of her craft. great reaction to a great movie.

    I've watched this movie 3 times already once on IMAX (Best Movie on IMAX Ever) once on normal screen at the cinema and once on HBO and I'm not tired of it, just like the 1st one that I think is the movie that I've ever watched the most (even over Star Wars Original Trilogies) and that speaks really good about this movie.
    When you said: "I think Maverick has to stop" I just laughed thinking: "How do you say Stop to Tom Cruise?" XD
    But I remember after watching the movie for the 1st time at the cinema I just watched a post from Val on Instagram with the 2 of them and the caption was: "I always be your Wingman" and I was like... "I'M NOT CRYING, YOU'RE CRYING!" XD
    I remember Tom said: "there's no Maverick without Val!"
    That speaks enough of him! Very classy of Tom!
    Now... counting the days for Mission Impossible!!!
    People are going to miss Tom when he gets retired!!!!

    I found out from a combat aviator after this movie came out that the Super Hornets have an AI that takes control of the aircraft when it's about to crash. Don't know if the scriptwriters knew that.
    Also, Mitchell wasn't the "fastest man alive." Space Shuttle crews re-entered the atmosphere at Mach 25.

    • @yxeaviationphotog
      @yxeaviationphotog 8 месяцев назад

      Not sure what "combat aviator" you talked to, but the Super Hornet has no such system. The Auto Ground Collision Avoidance System (Auto-GCAS) was first developed for the F-16 after losses due to GLOC. For the longest time, it was just the F-16 that had it, but it is being worked into the F-35 as well. The Navy directed the Super Hornet project office to start exploring the addition of Auto-GCAS to the Super Hornet back in 2018/19. Testing wasn't scheduled to start until either this year or next. Frankly, the system should have been integrated way sooner, but with a G limit under 9 G's, it wasn't a priority I suppose.

    There are a lot of little funny tidbits in this movie. For instance, when Rooster says "How are we going to get this museum piece in the air?" The funny bit is that the F-14 used for filming this movie was rented from a museum, because it was cheaper to do that than to built a prop.

    Everyone knew there would be a sex scene in this film, but I don't think anyone was prepared for what we got. It was a mature scene, of two people later in their lives, still capable but more focused on their connection. Penny doesn't see Maverick as his pilot ego, but as Pete Mitchell, a guy she fell for way back when but moved on from, and then reconnected with some years later, was heart-broken, but now is feeling that last chance come into play. The hot tongue action of the first film was appropriate then, when Maverick was in his 20's, but this was somewhat more appropriate for his later life. It connects more with the audience that the film was intended for, and is a good role model for any youth. Love isn't just about pleasure... It's about creating a connection that lasts.

    I watched it 8 times in the theater with 7 different audiences. Almost everyone I went with saw it one more time before it left the theater. I was very surprised it stayed in theaters for over 3 months here (Hawai'i). Most movies barely stay more than one month.
    If you revisit the original Top Gun, Penny is mentioned but not seen. Penny is the admiral's daughter mentioned in the flight debrief when Goose and Maverick were told by their commanding officer that they'd be going to Top Gun. She was mentioned again by Goose's wife right before they went into singing Great Balls of Fire.
    Glad you enjoyed it and we got to enjoy it with you. I'm waiting for Dead Reckoning Part One to come out. Looks solid.

    How did Rooster hit the target?
    Good question. Laser-guided bombs (LGB) need a laser spot to focus their seekers on, which is what the trailer plane was supposed to provide. An LGB can be deployed in a "slick" configuration in which it acts the same as a free-fall bomb, it's impact point being predicted by the marker in the HUD which would allow for a reasonably accurate delivery. To do this Rooster would have had to change the modes in the weapons profile, which we really don't see him do so it would not really have worked unless he was either really really lucky, or was using The Force.

  • @chrismaverick9828
    @chrismaverick9828 Год назад

    One of my personal frustrations, knowing what I know about carrier ops, is that IRL there would have been help handy the moment they realized Mav and Rooster were inbound. A carrier group does not tool around near possibly hostile waters without a Barrier Air Combat Patrol around, usually two to four fighters tasked with protecting the fleet from incoming aircraft. They won't stray into sovereign airspace without reason, but they are there. Then there is also an Alert 5 and several other layers of aircraft whenever there is a higher level of risk being taken by the group. The idea that the spare aircraft, Hangman with bombs loaded, is the only available plane to go save and escort them back is just plain nuts.
