  • Jetson ONE is an ultralight and extremely fun to fly recreational all-electric personal vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) aircraft.
In the latest clip of the vehicle, posted on RUclips, the firm said: 'We have flown over the desert, through a forest. This time we chose to fly the Jetson ONE over water - the sensation is incredible and magical!'

    • @wispfire2545
      @wispfire2545 2 года назад

I'd imagine wings would be unnecessary. Wings are needed in planes for creating an "upward drag" (I'm not a aerial engineer) and stability quick forward movement.
If you'd add wings to this thing, they'd probably act more like sideways pointing sails. Since this thing's movement is completely reliant on the propellers, the wings might just be and safety hazard if wind catches them.
As for ducted fans... that actually sounds like a good idea. The ducts would offer at least sight protection to the propellers AND protection FROM the propellers. Maybe if there was sort of a chicken fence under the ducted fan as well, then you'd not have to worry about dogs coming the greet this flying decapitator

Most people can't drive safely, yet alone park properly--and this is just in 2-dimensions (x,y). How do you expect a common person to do the same in 3-dimensions (x,y,z)? Factor in the weather, significant wind draft and gusts, and you're in for a death swarm. One accident/mistake easily cascades to the next trying to avoid mid-air collision. Put skyscrapers, towers, powerlines, trees and billboards to the mix. This thing is not for ordinary people.
A light-aircraft/bush pilot's license should at least be required to fly these. Imagine swarms of these contraptions with idiots piloting it. Even your homes are not safe. This is only useful and practical to a niche market, i.e.: emergency responders, police, military and hobbyists with pilots's license.

@@generalripper7528 True. But right now I believe they are soliciting investors before the product is even complete, which runs afoul of the Securities an Exchange commission--I know because I was a corporate accountant, then accounting instructor and worked closely with the state and federal boards governing us--I am known for getting tip compliance laws changed in '92, which wanted a flat tax of 15 percent in the Casino I was Controller of.
It was unfair to our lowest and middle tier restaurants, which catered to seniors in bus tours, many of whom only left a buck or two on the table after a $40 dollar meal if they came in as a couple, or maybe five percent tipping at the most, our middle tier restaurant, only five to ten percent, and our most expensive restaurant, the tips averaged 15 to 25 pct--the joke was its Maitre D made twice as much as I did but they hosted the big celebrities and big gamblers--well deserved and he was a good buddy.
As a former fixed wing LSA pilot, I know the law when it comes to making statements about something that skirt truth, it was true too in the LSA business--mostly when empty weight was understated.
I also understand this aircraft would be kit built so its price does not mean it will have the same street value or the kit cost to the mfr would not be near the price.
I also know federal law--makes me wonder if this company is offshore and its investment money is going elsewhere.
I told the mfr already--if they do not fly at Oshkosh, Sun n' fun, or Copper State, they have nothing viable to share with us yes other than faked graphics, and I can tell that by the way the aircraft moves seemingly oblivious to ground effect and rotor turbulence, and at a speed drones could not fly at safely, like their previous video that resembles a clone speeder with Princess Leia on it.
I still get paid by the federal government, still consult on tax and fraud issues, but this company is not in my domain or a waste of the effort--where the money goes, I could care less, but I suspect their investors will never see the product or want to with a 20 minute range and a price per mile far greater than a business jet, since aircraft cost is considered at that.
There are good ultralights out there, some getting e-motors and e-gliders, like new LS8-e Neo glider, and the LSA Pipstrel e-aircraft I believe may have a 45 minute range or an hour, again at a price per mile much lower, and it is a production aircraft.
For $100K, there are good, fast kit planes on the market, or good, used Mooneys which cruise for hours at 180KTAS, etc, or a good used Rotorway copter if one wants VTOL and extended range.
If they do appear at an airshow with more than a static display, I will be impressed--an airshow is where I got my student LSA license for fixed wing and trikes. My Allegro trainer, as fast as a 172 and metal/composite, listed for less than 70K, fully assembled, and I almost bought one---but my wife and I went for a new home instead and I have rented in the 16 years since I soloed in a Challenger II kitplane near Prescott, Arizona, that was open air which is why I fly trikes now-----open air is a blast, I may one day get a PPC with gear (who wants to run).
Best movie I have ever seen on ultralights is Fly Away Home, based on a true story but highly fictionalized, which featured trikes and fixed wing, all descended from ultralight designs.
Human drones will come into their own, but I would place the fans above, not below the craft, just like RC camera drones, or ducted, but that does add weight. They will serve air and rescue, military, etc. If gas powered with a 4-stroke, there are some light enough for this aircraft, range will not be an issue. I'll pass on two-strokes, except for the oil injected Rotax 582 Blue Head, but that is too heavy for one of these drones.
I know they wish to use electric engines because of power to weight, and reliability, but even brushless motors do fail, which is how my Radian RC glider died after about 30 flights and only six hours of air time, or house fans die regularly, even air conditioning fan units--depends on the wear and tear and in the case of drones, flight conditions.
As for too many pax drones flying--rest easy, ultralights do not surround the crowded skies of Phoenix, RC Drones are limited to I believe 4-500 feet in altitude by the FAA and thus prohibited from entering class B airspace.
The ultralight laws are clear, and ramp checks still happen by the FAA, especially on kit built aircraft that exceed the weights the law allows.
My CFI warned me of that when I looked at several fixed wing aircraft, leaning towards an Ercoupe or Zenith 601 that had too high a gross and violated useful load with two typical 170# pilots aboard--I lost 60# so I could fly trikes safely--passenger weights will matter when these things--if any of the five or six I've seen mentioned now, get in the air.
For now, as they say in the software industry, they are vaporware, and investors beware.
The opinions here solicit good conversation, even the company owner has been polite and I figure his or their vision will be realized some day.
But beware "armchair" pilots or "old bold pilots" leaning towards not being old if they remain bold.
My ex boss by the way, is working on getting a bigger drone in the air, and has offered me a free flight on it--it is just getting close to the air shows but has only flown in a small area, free of buildings and other hazards.
i believe that will have the same price point but once again, limited in range since range puts on weight, like an extra battery pack.

I am a trained pilot, though non commercial, and I'd suggest buying an Aerolight 103 from Florida, a fixed wing aircraft, or a Part 103 Maverick Trike, (I have flown trikes, they cost less than 10K well taken care of, cheaper to rent with a CFI). One can stay in the air a lot longer given I have not seen any of my buddies, most of whom are fixed wing and heli or gyro cfi's, gandering at one of these at our local airshow.
If you really want to get a first person POV view of flying, any drone around $200-300 will get your eyes above the world, wasting much less space, and scamming no one. Which is much better than paying into these black hole, fly without a license, investment schemes.
