@@rkaid7 True, but they are substantially improved over what you got 8-years ago. Keep in mind that this is an Extreme Bull wheel. Yes, strongly related but generally they have always been a lower quality version of a Begode wheel.
There are plenty of videos available on how to fix hall sensor issues on ebike motors. It's kind of interesting to look at especially since in some cases you can fix the issue by removing the circuit board in the motor and manually making the wire harness. I completely understand why you would rather get a new motor for free though.
Yes, I know they can be replaced and a few people have. But it's not a simple process and the consequences of doing a bad job are a lot worse for an EUC rider then an ebike :-)
Goop and silicon has been accepted practice in mechanics since forever so its ok in some cases. Some Gaskets can have goo. Some plugs or wires may have goo to support in cases of vibration to reduce risk of an unplug, or to resist environment such as water. Use at own risk. Consult experts wizly. Wishing you nice success and to be well.
Working on and fixing a brand new wheel instead of riding it is no bueno. Extreme Bull is family owned and looks like they have their 7 year old kids putting these together, saves money tho. Yikes!
Marty, the problem has never looked like hall sensors trouble. You would have beeps in this case. First of all you need to check all mechanical stuff between the motor and the controller board. Screws on motor shaft, screws fastening suspension to side panels, side panels to wheels head etc. Also check the motor cable whether it’s broken and phases connection to controller as well. But mechanics first.
Trust me, I know how these things work and the mechanical issues that can go bad. There's nothing wrong with the mechanics with this wheel (I haven't filmed 100% of everything I've done). With Begode, the Hall Sensor beeps occur if there is NO input from the hall sensors. In this case the input is sporadic. And if you watched the end of the video you will see where I performed the electrical test of the Hall Sensors and confirmed that they are bad. Thanks for your suggestions.
I told you, Marty, to check phase connectors, and that was the simplest thing you could do and didn’t. It’s so weird to make so useless efforts removing halls socket from the mainboard and not checking phase connections, seems just impossible for me. You don’t know how these things work, you don’t know how to check Hall sensors performance. I suggested you to check mechanics and phase connections cause that 2 things were only reasons for these symptoms. Still big thanks for giving a brief look inside this wheel. I’m still curious about battery packs layout and why they built front and rear edges of side panels so low. Commander pro panels’ shape looks better. Not sure if somebody will take a risk to remove battery covers to investigate that construction.
Oh my god 13 minutes in dude that motherboard is probably a new record low for extreme bull, I thought the commander mini was bad and the commander pro 50s cut outs I think I’m good on extreme bull for a year 💀
thanks Marty after roger went down the curb it started making the noises wow QC is horrible who supervising these people we who love the hobby want to spend the money but don't want to end up in the hospital or worse.
Roger, you’re a lucky bastard! It could have ended badly. Marty seems to be getting bad wheels all the time. I would not risk life and limb for these wheels. EB needs to stop designing wheels with sharp edges. What are they thinking? If you fall, that wheel becomes a meat grinder. As if the designer does not ride an EUC. The designer does not have EUC logic.
sorry: For the Top waterproofing: Looks to me same as Mini, which has the velcro AND the top rubber above those sides where the screws are. And i ride my Mini, also gupped to the down battery in all kind of rain storms in nasty Germany. Never had any problems. Yes, the gupp is not maintenance friendly, but calling it bad in waterproofing? Cant see that as long as you use the rubber top. jusy my 2 cents
Hi Ulf. Regarding the Mini vs GT Pro, you are incorrect. At least on my Mini there is a high quality rubber gasket glued onto the top of the control board chamber that the top presses against. There is NO gasket on the GT Pro. Depending on a foam top that can let water pass underneath the foam is no very dependable. I'm glad it's working for you though 🙂 Begode does not use goop to waterproof the battery pass-through connections on their wheels. They use rubber gaskets. Goop is a slopy design choice for weatherproofing. Obviously it works though.
What can go wrong with the wheel motor in itself though.. a loose wire, one with a bad connection, or bad/broken wire insulation perhaps. Do you intend to look further into that Marty? In any case, it's not a great advertisement for the manufacturer. I'm sure they must understand that (?) and hopefully they're actively making improvements to the build and 'test bench' procedures...
I'm guessing they put philips screws there to try and stop people from over torquing them and then breaking the plastic but ironically this could of been avoided by having a gasket across the whole cover, and yeah goop is a heck no, its a pain to deal with and trivial as an attempt to "water proof". Really a shame really, this kind of flop reminds me of the Abrams and its woes.
Could the goop on the contact made the earth not present and thus making then hall sensor fail? In any case I agree with all you say .:: but … that’s quality control for you in some countries my man .. not good considering on an euc if the motor fails your basically your booking an immediate appointment with terra firma .. as you well know eh? Btw, how’s the ankle now? I’ll not get another wheel.: China is popping them out quicker than chicken nuggets at McDonalds with what seems like little to no qc.. and no sooner have you got one than it’s outa date like the distribution board hinted at … anyway thanks for taking us along man
Wouldn’t a 168v ex30 technically just be the commander gt? Pro? From my understanding to add voltage to a wheel is to add more series to the cell, hence why the gt pro is so insanely fat/bulky? I think that’s why they use the ex30 motor as well unless you can make a 168v ex30 with the same dimension? If so that would be amazing
Oh dear, grab nano microscope goggles, confidently fingering the high voltage majic board past the mystery goo pits. Ah ha, yip, ok. It does seem like it needs a bit more love yet. It's ok to be later and safer, we still gonna want wheels next month to.
Leaperkim is proof that the wheel doesn’t need to be made here to exude quality. Theres no other way to put it, its being lazy/greedy plain and simple. Every company has the money at this point. This is unacceptable, I wish Jason would push for this instead of dealer exclusivity.
Obviously very disappointed. Imagine how you'd feel if you paid 4 grand for it! So much potential, let down by poor finishing (design & assembly). BTW 100/90-14 IS a 4 inch tire (3.98). Outer diametre is 21.3 inches. With lower CoG batteries extended fore and aft giving longitudinal stability this should be a great Mt Baldy wheel. Weight?
gotway controller moment... there is little chance that the problem is in the engine. most likely something is wrong with the controller . mosfets maybe

Wow. Thanks Marty. You are going to save a lot of people massive headaches, time and money with this info.

To be completely fair extreme bull is known for rushing production for batch 1 but they clean it up significantly by batch 2 or 3

It is a way to test the hall sensor alone? Like if you have a motor outside the wheel and no possibility to connect it to control board?
Yes, you can do the hall sensor test that I describe outside of the wheel. You would have to supply the power to the black and red wires (5-volts)
