11:15 Those who thought that the Alstom C751A traction system was GTO-VVVF, they probably thought it was GEC Alstom GTO-VVVF, but the actual traction system is Alstom ONIX 1500 IGBT-VVVF
The C651 motor has the best sound ever. It's sad it didn't get the refurbishment like the older ones have, its got a great tune to it, having a pleasant pitch. Not to mention the sound and design of its doors too.
C651 already had delayed refurbishment many times. I think the spaces at Bishan Depot can only take out certain train for upgrades. Now that new trains are coming, SMRT will only bother to replace old train (Before mass influx of C151A/B/C). 2024 will be the final year of C651 and C751Bs. 2026 will be the final year of C151.
I kinda prefer the KNS motors tbh, despite the motor softer than the KSF ones but the interior of the third generation trains are quite special for NSEWL tbh
5:37 The C751B's motor sounds quite similar to that of the C151A/B/C, the only difference is the sound of the motor before and after the train accelerates or decelerates.
Useful info for us new enthus who are either primary sch kids or young teen lower sec pupils and also useful info for the general public too! One day, a lot of people might be train enthus!
The sound of inverters, OptoniX for example, depends mainly on two factors. The type of incoming current/the type of current that the motors use, and the modulation chosen by the manufacturer. This explains the difference in existing pitch for the Optonix or the OniX (worldwide).
My favourite motors in Singapore: KHI GTO Chopper (C151, the 'iconic and classic') SIE GTO (C651, the 'Legendary') KNS IBGT Fuji Electric (C751B, the 'sample of KSF') KSF IBGT (C151B) and C751C (NEL, 'meledic like Siemens') My favourite models: Siemens C651 Kawasaki Heavy Industries C751B Kawasaki Heavy Industries & CSR / CRRC Sifang C151B Alstom Metropolis C751C (NEL) Kawasaki Heavy Industries & CRRC Sifang CT251 (TEL) Tbh, although not many people likes China made trains (especially KSF) very much, but C151B and C751C are the China made trains that made my rides feel enjoyable and relaxing
Fun fact: the traction motor on the Alstom Metropolis C830C are the exact same as those used on the Amsterdam Metro M5 M6, also part of the Alstom Metropolis family.
11:09 Just so yall know, the transistors (GTO & IGBT) isnt the one that makes your C751A sound like older train models with GTO-VVVF, rather how the Variable Frequency Drive or VFD is programmed. Since this train was made around when IGBT was introduced, its bound to sound like older models with GTO-VVVF as the VFD's are programmed similarly (I'm simplifying a lot)🤓
I honestly think an updated version is needed for R151 and the C851E NEL variant. The C851E's motor sounds slightly higher-pitched than the C751C's motor.
Watched till the end! Once again, another excellent work! 👍🏻👍🏻 For me I personally prefer the C830C motor sound, which is melodious and you can hear it clearly even with the PSDs enclosing the tracks. Second is definitely C651. In fact I would classify both models of trains as the melodious duo.
My personal favourite motors are those of the C751Bs and the KSF trains (since all 3 generations of the KSFs have the same motor) from the NSEWL and the C830C from the CCL.
My favourites from each line: MRT (1/2) NSEWL a) KHI Nippon Sharyo C751B b) KHI / CRRC Qingdao Sifang C151C (3) NEL: All of them! (4) CCL: Alstom Metropolis C830C (5) DTL: Bombardier Movia C951 (6) TEL: KHI CRRC Qingdao Sifang CT251 LRT BP: Bombardier Innovia APM 100 C801A
it was such a nostalgic time whenever i waited for a train in 2019 and it was a siemens c651. why? bc i would put on my airpods and listen to birds by imagine dragons during exam period. i was traveling to bras basah very frequently to buy past exam papers and i would play the ending part “i know that ooh, birds fly in every direction … i hope to see you again” and the ascending nostalgic ooh-ooh-ooh part will be simultaneously synchronised to the melodic howls when the c651s leave the stations. the first one i’d hear is “next station: pioneer” and the howl will be so forever emblazoned on my mind as the paramountcy of both smrt and sbs’ train sounds. 🚇 the best part? well, the fact that announcements are muffled means that it felt like i was traveling on an endless journey (without defined locations) 🫠🫠🫠 also speaking of, bras basah station is sooooooooo underrated, im always hanging around there after school when i get the chance bc the western food at the lazada food ct is decent and $4.9 for fried rice is … okay … but honestly the other ones are expensive. well, at least thanks to the fact that there are multiple hotels in the vicinity such as strand hotel or mi bencoolen, coupled w the fact that ppl are starting to realise how breathtaking that ceiling is, i think it is starting to gradually garner attention from ang mohs 🥹 ok sorry for rambling on but pls sam open soon 🎨 so ppl can find a reason to go to bras basah, unless its sec students like me who … well … eh … i dont always buy (i do haphazardly) the past year exam papers … to be frugal … i … just often frequently head there just to … heheh … view the exam papers and books w/o purchasing 😈 i mean tbh its not illegal right … okay but my main point here is that every time i would take the ewl to city hall (and change to dhoby to access ccl) … id be so elated once i hear that melodic c651 howls 🥺 however, mostly, it would often be from the changi depot (pasir ris side) and not much from the tuas depot 🥺🥺🥺 pls lta i pray for you to just store some more c651s there so my journeys to sch every morning would be not so lacklustre 🚊
26 of them were sent back for repairs in 2016 due to the cracks found a few years ago, then there was a Joo Koon collision the following year which resulted many enthusiasts and commuters mostly ignoring this model (unless special apperances like on CGL) as it was the ‘most problematic’ model of the network (worse than the KHI or even SIE).

Even if the refurbished SIEs where refurbished, the motor would be PMSM not GTO-VVVF
the osaka metro yotsubashi line which is full 23 series fleet sounds like C651
unfortunately most yotsubashi line trains have had their motor replaced :(
@@sbs2828s i think most of them still have their original GTO motors, i rode them like 3-4 days ago and still sounds like C651
@@TWGF1853 hmm interesting... maybe i js had bad luck 😅

The C810/A motors always remind me of the S Stock motor in London
2:40 Among the 6 C151 trains with the PMSM motor, 095/096 is now retired. Hence, there are only 5 active PMSM C151 trains left.

16:27 I totally agree with this. The C830C train DOES sound a lot nicer than its predecessor.
My personal favourite motors are those of the C751Bs and the KSF trains (since all 3 generations of the KSFs have the same motor) from the NSEWL and the C830C from the CCL.
Sometimes if both c151 is strong motor it sounds like MLR in hong kong.
The c751b, c151a, c151b, and c151c sounds like sp1900 + tml c train
Me honestly, I have a soft spot for the original motor, but the best deceleration sound, I have to give to the C651.
Wow your're active
Fun fact the motor of C751C accelerating is the same motor noise as KLIA Transit train CRRC Changchun Equator EMU noise
the monorail traction motor is Hitachi IGBT-VVVF
The c151 use drum clock type display and the c651 use flipdot display right
